Proposed Law Change: Researcher's Experimental Drugs
Concept: Allow research to use experimental drugs, treatments, and similar *legally*, requiring a signed waiver from the soldier using said items to enter the experiment.
Why: Research is a role that, to be able to do anything interesting mechanically aside being a regular doctor, requires you to do illegal things. No matter how many authorizations you can get, by how the laws are written currently, the CMP is always supposed to work against said authorizations, because they're not actually legally obtainable.
On a Roleplay perspective, this can be added as a W-Y coordinated research project. Ensuring that said drugs require a signed form from the user (Your average PfC, perhaps) gives a layer that aids against an extreme distribution, and a little more paperwork is a good price to pay for the increased interaction / creativity that this allows.
Thoughts?

Re: Proposed Law Change: Researcher's Experimental Drugs
Pros: This would be pretty cool, but you should have to also get the CMOs and COs signature. Other than that, it could open up to some kind of event.
Cons: This could easily be used for powergame/abuse. They would have to set up other restrictions to be able to do this.
Overall, this would be pretty cool. +1

I think it would be great for researchers to be allowed test trials. They do some paper work on a medication, and get a green light from command to distribute the med to one or two marines

I do play Researcher often, and it would open up new things for me or other Researchers to do, it still is human testing and can be lethal if you manage it incorrectly. It's a cool idea, but I don't think the USCM would let Marines be tested during a combat operation.

As a researcher I put together a big old report of testing synaptazine on monkeys and finding out the combinations of Chems needed to safely remove toxins, after doing trials on monkeys and documenting the results for an hour and a half I show the commander my findings just to be met with "That's an illegal drug".ComradeCorbyn wrote: ↑30 Apr 2018, 15:43I do play Researcher often, and it would open up new things for me or other Researchers to do, it still is human testing and can be lethal if you manage it incorrectly. Re: Proposed Law Change: Researcher's Experimental Drugs
I doubt I'm going to be adding or adjusting this.
If you are going to perform drug related experiments on people, you are taking the risk that the MPs are gonna come crashing in and smash you up.
IRL, it's actually against the law for soldiers and marines to submit to experimental testing, and there's laws that protect them from being forced to participate.
There's a REALLY bad history with that IRL that everyone is VERY careful about.

Re: Proposed Law Change: Researcher's Experimental Drugs
As a guy who plays MP a lot I would be okay with this if the proper paper work was filled out.
Say the CMO Approves of the tests and the marine In question signs a waiver and the CO greenlights it. A record of meds/drugs issued is kept and adhered to rigidly. Don't hand out a whole bottle of hiperzine, just issues 2-3 pills to 1: prevent further distribution among the rank and file troops and 2: prevent overdose.
It is kinda lame how crippled the researcher role is sometimes and to be allowed a bit more freedom or leeway wouldn't, in my opinion, hamper or disrupt regular game play.
It is a game after all. Based in a really fucked up fictional universe. Straying from reality can't be too bad sometimes eh guys?
On another note. To help enforce and ensure that the researchers aren't running a damn dispensary, maybe give the CMP access to research. This might actually help with transparency In regards to the researchers shenanigans and could also dare I say, even improve relations between the MP dept and the rest of the crew.

Re: Proposed Law Change: Researcher's Experimental Drugs
Sounds asinine.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.
