The interpretation of Marine Laws

Post by Alky » 02 May 2018, 18:47

So. I've decided to make this forum as a way for marines to understand marine law and how it is interpreted along with how to avoid or to ahelp when a CMP/MP is being unjust. To note, I'm not at all a MP main, so I do not have a mind set of being a MP, but I have been told by others to Ahelp the situation as it was unfair or have heard from others that they were mistaken on this case. I'm innocent, I swear.

My issues:
I'm fed up with some CMP/MP's arresting me or doing things that aren't really covered on marine law. If you don't know, I "Ritona Sterling" have been arrested for false arrest throughout my time in CM, mainly from unsecured equipment as a SL or RO. I've been arrested or made note of by the MP's for having unsecured equipment, sometimes falsely arrested for it.
Failing to ensure your equipment for your department is properly secured. Leaving unattended equipment is unsafe and illegal. You may distribute equipment outside your department if you are giving it to a specific individual and not leaving it on the floor unattended.
That's the Marine Law for Unsecured Equipment. The MP's have the discretion of using their own discretion if marine law isn't as detailed as it is, but sometimes, they disregard reasoning and attempt to arrest the marine.

The false arrests that happened:
► Show Spoiler
Summary:
In any case, I feel as if this law is annoying as it's too broad, and it's information is too loose and leads to meta-targeting against SL's who place their gear outside their individual rooms because if you were to confiscate the gear of a SL then you should be able to confiscate the gear of every marine and even the RO for this matter.

By the by, I want to hear other experiences you have as a marine being attacked by a MP when it's completely okay or kinda foggy on it, I wrote this purely to get this off my chest with the recent MP's/CMP's playing the game; I also want to see what other CMP's/MP mains think when this sorta thing happens.

The law is fine. If you don't want to get arrested for laziness or because you're being stupid, don't be either.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I mean, MPs are in a tight spot because marine law is OOC for them. While I'm sure some enjoy brigging people a little too much, they're required to enforce all the little anti-fun stickler laws like unsecured equipment or medication distribution. Perhaps they go a little too broad at times, but I definitely understand why'd they would want to over-enforce rather than under-enforce. One will just inconvenience the marines, the other could get you boinked.

If you have spare flamers as SL just give them to Req rather than ditch them on the floor.

This. It's far better than risking arrest or having them put to no use at all. Just bag the tanks and carry the leftover flamers and leave them at a cargo door just before briefing if you can't get them to the RO over the desk. As much as MP's will have some gripe over that, most will just toss them into cargo for you. (well the idea is to not let the MPs know you've dropped them by cargo's door)

In fact about this point alone. I think when MPs take weapons off marines they should be required to take them to requisitions. For safe keeping and not to mention that's where weapons belong anyway. That and if there were any attachments on the weapons, cargo can certainly make use of them.

IIRC, both Prep and REQ are deemed secure areas.

Unsecured Equipment also doesn't allow for confiscation, if you see a MP cofiscating your shit for the charge, ahelp it.

How I operate:

If it's in reqs or prep room it is "secure" non combat roles can't get into those areas without breaking in. At which point it's on them for breaking in. I don't like MPs who go about confiscating gear in prep rooms.
