So, it seems like there are some people that take the Marine Law too literally and arrest people on the pettiest of charges. And while that's not against the Marine Law and it's not a bannable offence (viewtopic.php?f=71&t=16723&p=188758), it's still fun to reminisce about how the MPs abused you or other people. So share your stories, have some laughs and let the salt flow .

So today we were playing under Commander Jack King (infamous for being a stickler to the rules and hard on enforcing them). CMP was a bit of a stickler for the rules as well. Early on, Bravo Squad Leader got busted by CMP for Unsecured Equipment - he either left a flamer in Bravo prep or Bravo canteen. That then began to spiral. Marines started getting a bit rowdy, and after 10 or so minutes XO got involved. So CMP, the XO and the Commander all got into an argument about whether SL should be in the brig or not. It got to the point the XO got brigged for "Interfering with an arrest"! Meanwhile, Requisitions were being slow or something, so the Commander ordered them to be shut down before the scheduled briefing.

Tensions were a bit high. Due to CO and XO arguing, briefing got delayed. Highpop Marines, sitting in briefing, getting more and more agitated over SL getting brigged was turning into a tense situation for the MPs. People AHELPed for mutiny, and got denied. People were shouting and organising a sit-in to protest their SL getting arrested.

Briefing started, Commander flashed everyone (including himself). Some people left in the middle of the briefing and broke the glass on southern checkpoint. When everyone was dismissed, most of Bravo remained in their seats. They were told to go, but they wouldn't budge. Even the admins spawned a handful of flashbangs to get everyone to go. In the end, we had to arrest all of them for "Neglect of duty", one by one. Flashing the flasher like 5 times, a few people on the cuffs. We had taken so many people in we filled all of the cells and still had some left over.

As I was transporting the squad medic and figuring where to stuff him, orders came in from High Command - a pardon for all Marines in the brig for "Neglect of duty". So I set the medic free before I had to brig him and let him out, along with his buddies from the brig.

The fun wasn't over - someone racked up 5 counts of escape attempts and was in permabrig. The MP who took them in in the end committed suicide, and apparently High Command issued a pardon for them as well.

Corporate Liaison was also apparently murdered, and Research was the only syspect with prints on the murder weapon.

An SO decided to give me a gift and put a tank helmet on me. Just as I came back to the brig I hear the Commander over the radio - "I hope you're not wearing that helmet under Code Green!". I had to put it away...

Sometime mid-round, a medal lands on CMP's desk - a medal for arresting all of Bravo despite XO's interference.

I haven't seen the end of that round, I heard Marines won anyway.

As a CL I got arrested for interferring with a arrest or a Survival, who got resisting arrest for moving a bit, IMPROPER UNIFORM, and CONTRABAND, WHICH HAPPENDED TO BE THE UNIFORM HE WAS WEARING. WE BOTH GOT 45 MINUTES IN THE BRIG! CMP should be a whitelist role at this point.

Ironically, Bravo also won that round by trapping the entire xeno team above LZ1 where they lost every T3+Queen, and like 15 others. I was also the SL that round. Feels bad.

One round when I was playing as CMO a PFC, Murry, came to me saying he wanted to donate his body to science. My first reaction was to call a researcher, because that's a RP opportunity for them, but suddenly LT Alan Jones, upon hearing this, came to ask for him to be turned into a super-soldier. The Liason heard it and was thrilled by the perspective. As a CMO who wants to gain points with both command and Wey-Yu I accepted the request, with an empty medbay (before/during initial deployment) and the appropriate resources. I decided we'd replace his limbs and organs with synthetic ones, enhancing his combat capabilities. The enhancement would be more RP than mechanical, since the difference is small. And the fact that he wouldn't be able to use kelotane to fix burns and stuff could even point to it being a nerf. But anyway...

Thing is, people started to talk about the "super soldier experiment" and whatnot. Naturally the MPs came to bust us. They cut a surgery in the middle and arrested me (who was acting as an anesthesiologist) and the surgeon, Dr. Solaris. We got sent to brig for "conducting illegal experiments".
I first asked for my charges. The CMP had given me max sentence on Assault and Neglect of duty (55 minutes). I then appealed. I started by noting that there were no experiments being performed, all the surgery procedures were well documented. Nothing experimental there. Then on the charges: assault was nonsensical, since it was a voluntary surgery. And neglect of duty as well, since medbay was running smoothly and I was in full communication with the rest of the doctors.
Of course, no appeal has ever served for anything, because you are basically appealing the judge that condemned you (who'll never go back on the sentence because it'd be admitting the arrest was wrong, something that could get them jobbanned), so on top of serving 55 minutes he declared my medical license revoked. I could not treat anyone for the rest of the round until xenos crashed the ship.

The round was too interesting RP-wise for me to make any complaint besides an unanswered fax to High Command and Wey-Yu, though.

I'm just going to throw it out here. If you have serious cause for concern over MPs antics ahelp the situation in round for a mod/admin to look into.

Failing that. Raise a player report on the forums to be investigated. If you don't report shady actions and the player in question continually gets away with it because no one reports it. They continue to do it and push the boundaries of what they perceive they can get away with.

People won't report it, during this round the marines who asked to mutiny/ refused to drop were threatened with bans for doing. If anything screams my report won't be accepted it's that.

File a staff report if you believe they failed to do their job correctly as well. It is evident from the round in question that the staff were conflicted on the decision given that Apop was the one who sent out the HC notice for the pardons. I believe there is some discussion about marine law currently but I'm not 100% sure on that

My favourite thing is watching MPs stack charges on people already imprisoned and just trying to legally get them to stop without them trying to arrest me as well.
It's rather hard sometimes, I'm a good MP and I can be very fair and kind to the prisoners, and joke around with them and such. (Delta is a different story though) but some MPs just want to put people in perma

I will always remember the one and only time an SO actually marked me for Insub as an SL, so I decided to play the passive aggressive game. Handed my important shit to the Spec, marched back to the dropship and subsequently the brig, and waited for an MP to notice I was there and waiting to serve my time. Took about 15 minutes and three MPs and the CMP to walk by before someone noticed anything and asked me to come inside and serve a five minute sentence for the insub because, apparently, most of the MP branch was in "chicken with head cut off" status.

Technically repeat offender says that you need to have been already convicted or released with said charge, not doing it twice on the first incident

Also, appeals aren't a get out of jail free card. Doesn't matter if you are the only PO, they are there to confirm the charges and see if you actually committed the crime.

I think you're missing the point. He got arrested because other people where fucking around on the drop pad and got squished. The PO has zero ability to know if someone's on the pad. The ship is going to land, period. It's the duty of the people at the pad to stay clear of the DS, not the other way around.

I'm throwing this in: I love Awan as an staff and community member but if he wants to play CMP more often like has has been doing he has to really start making it a little more fun for his officers and shipside rines. I'm saying this because what happened to this man (ThePiachu) in question happened when Awan was CMP (who is a very very very very very very law-strict robocop when playing that role) and there was also an asshole XO who just kept pressing MPs into placing people in jail for leaving weapons in perma floor (fr). I managed to perma the XO a while before round end on grounds of treason tho.

the core problem with MPs is that in a lot of rounds theyre lacking in real tasks and so they make mountains out of molehills just so they have something to do. outside of an occasional event, mutiny, or ert, they typically got next to nothing. real genuine shipside traitors/spies being a more regular occurence would give them "bigger fish to fry" to get them off the asses of the smalltime offenders.

and it's perfectly thematic. the treachery of other people be it in the form of an android, a greedy company man, or the distant corporation is a frequent theme in aliens related media.

I think yesterday I witnessed something really bald from an MP. I was playing as an MT, and walking around the docking bay early round, pre-briefing. I see an MP, Bateleur Merlin, arguing with a tank officer, and putting cuffs on him. At a point, he even tased him for refusing to go to brig. Why was this TO being arrested you might ask? For trespassing of course! All Marines are supposed to be in the Briefing area after all - for the briefing. This MP didn't realise that the tank crew are not Marines, even though they look like them. By the time the situation was handled, we had a handful of people either gawking or arguing with the MP about it. In the end everything went back to normal, but it certainly was entertaining while it lasted.

Me and another marine were making noise to try and get attention over to cryo because doors were broke . An MP came over and arrested both of us for vandalism and some other charge and then called over the CMP and other MPs because another pajama marine asked to see the CMP about this arrest. Finally the CMP shot there and told us we were all free to go after we explained the story. The MP literally had to be cuffed and dragged away from us because he refused to let us go. But it ended up well and good

I always argue with marines who clearly didn't do anything and tell them i'll get them in brig for terrorism (say he ate a crayon, I explain to him why that is terrorism) just to see their reaction. I obviously never cuff or brig them, but I laugh my ass off at the salty rines actually trying to explain to me why eating crayons is not terrorism.

As a MP/CMP main, i always go for the minimum, or half of the max sentence. Come on this is a game, and nobody would wait 55 minutes literally doing nothing but saying fuck you to their superior.

There are a lot of trigger-happy MPs out there, that's a truth. But let's not forget the asshole marines too, which deserve their sentence.
Most of the players must know that MP roles and Marine law is to make marines' life worse, and their gameplay a little harder. So, you don't only have preds,xenos or even zombies as a difficulty, you have MP on that part too. You simply can't have a shotgun on your back, a pulse rifle on your hand. If a MP see that, you're getting told off to put one away. This is just it.

Most of the times when i max sentence someone, it's either he is an unga, or a smartass who put's his gun out and in rapidly after being told off to holster their gun.
Let's not forget the LOOC warriors;

I like to think I'm a fair CMP, I don't put anyone in for longer than they should be. If you cooperate or suck at running away, you'll typically get minimal sentences from me.
However run away and actually be good at it and I'll make sure to devote the ENTIRE MP force to hunt you and make sure you're in for a long, long time.
But usually I rarely do that and I only have one BE under my belt
And if you're playing a UPP or CLF and get captured hell, don't worry you're not gonna meet the firing line, you'll be safely imprisoned and treated nicely, so long as an MP can get to you first.

DO NOT try to arrest Heinz, seriously first a dropship into my brig and no power and wondering how the hell to imprison anyone and also losing our entire armory to looters, to having a near revolution for the lawful arrest of Heinz who was the CO

While I haven’t specifically been abused by police, apart from maybe being annoyed by one for not wearing my ID (I was logged into the medical record terminal helping another MP, hence no ID), I find that even though there are some hard asses (Knight, Oostveen and Crowmel) they usually leave me alone as long as I have all my cards in order. Forms filled, SECURE EQUIPMENT and staff in check, things like that. I don’t think I’ve actually been arrested by them (or anyone else for that matter) lately, apart from the time Anders arrested Billy Bob and myself for having contraband in our research lockers (katanas of all the coolest contraband!).
