Re: The Horrors of a Broken Line...RUN LIKE HELL
In the long ago, I recall being the Liason, back on the old map when they first implemented random dropship crash zones. I ran into research across the way, and sealed myself in their specimen storage closet.
Dropship landed RIGHT on top of me.
Dropship landed RIGHT on top of me.

Re: The Horrors of a Broken Line...RUN LIKE HELL
This is incredibly true. Many times I've seen inferior number of xenos slowly bleed out half-entrenched marines because all the potential leaders were gone or stuck with support roles such as medic and the likes, busy there. When all it took was for them to rally and charge to win.Bancrosexd wrote: ↑28 May 2018, 20:05Sometimes it takes a player everyone knows and likes to regroup and rally the men. But if you have no strong leaders or robust players that people can trust. Morale will always be at -100
When marines with the leadership special are present and they have at least a few disciplined soldiers around that will orderly follow, then the rest follows and like a tide can produce devastating results.
It's in part about leaders, but it's also about disciplined underlings.

Agreed. But, it doesn't always need to be the popular one. It takes someone who can give orders and stick with it. Art of War.

TBH, when xeno are dominating, it's much more fun being a marine. I actually get quite bored as a xeno if the marines make a catastrophic blunder and turtle up for the next hour. It is, however, still fun being a marine under those circumstances. Xeno is fun (particularly T1s) when marines do well.

On that note, maybe a dedicated mortar team would be a good addition.

Re: The Horrors of a Broken Line...RUN LIKE HELL
I feel like Morale on this game is something a bit different from actual morale. Though it still carries some of the same ideas.
Morale on CM = The amount of players willing to charge and fight to the death without worrying about dying on an online game.
If some marines would just fucking charge instead of running like pansies, the amount of kills they'd get is unbelievable. If you're reckless and don't care about getting injured, you're much more likely to secure a kill. Not to say you should just charge into a ravager and get your arm sliced off but have a bit more faith and courage.
Now, if you look at this from the RP perspective of CM where you're fighting 10 foot tall creatures with claws bigger than your head you might even call it "powergaming".

Seems accurate. Which is why the few who -Do- charge ahead either die horribly, or somehow manage to shout 'Carpe Diem' and carry the Platoon.caleeb101 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2018, 04:39I feel like Morale on this game is something a bit different from actual morale. Eh. I find that the Marines are actually the neutral party, here. The pawns and misfits.Heckenshutze wrote: ↑05 Jun 2018, 09:25Not gonna happen until marines get rid of Main Protagonist Syndrome
In some way, so are the xenos. Wey-Yu and the Yautja could, in a way, be the Protagonists and Antagonists.

Re: The Horrors of a Broken Line...RUN LIKE HELL
Marines are intended to be the protagonists of the story but the Main Protagonist Syndrome is a mental decease that crush player's brain, they actually think their life is more valuable than other marines and they must make sure they survive the whole round and evac, by any means possible. Even if that means running like a coward, no killing a single xeno since that could make them get hurt etc.
(Not the same as Snowflake) since you can be a snowflake and not have the syndrome.

Eh, I'm not so sure this is a major issue. I feel like most competent marines are happy to charge because most robust ungas want to get dat sick K/D ratio. I think the big issue is it's difficult to organize charges or counter-attacks because of the limitations of text communication and the threat of getting FF'd by Marines manning the cades once you're three steps from the fortifications.Heckenshutze wrote: ↑05 Jun 2018, 10:15Marines are intended to be the protagonists of the story but the Main Protagonist Syndrome is a mental decease that crush player's brain, they actually think their life is more valuable than other marines and they must make sure they survive the whole round and evac, by any means possible. If Main Protagonist Syndrome was a big issue there wouldn't he so many idiots getting picked off alone by runners 5 minutes after landing.

The exact moment you see a guy avoiding combat, trying too hard, preserving himself in a too high degree to the point he abandons his post, orders and friends that's a MPS.

I remember being a Staff Officer, and there was a Marine trying to jump ship on a pod. Tried to pull him off the pod, get him to fight... And he pumped me full of buckshot.Heckenshutze wrote: ↑05 Jun 2018, 13:56Rambos aren't MPS.

MPS is a fat issue. It's very noticeable that on LV, when shit hits the fan on the beaches, the people with MPS will go all the way back to nexus instead of trying to defend Hydro because they know hydro will likely be flanked.Pogo92 wrote: ↑05 Jun 2018, 11:55Eh, I'm not so sure this is a major issue. Another thing I've seen when marines lose the beaches is that people with MPS suddenly start caring more about that broken splinted arm and go "damn, I need to evac" suddenly, even though they were fine to fight with that arm for like 30 minutes.
It can cause unrealistic cowardice and metagaming. If ya ain't got nowhere to run to and you're on your last two legs, I'm 1000% sure you're gonna fight.
