I guess it's better than just being put in charge of the CIC while the Commander takes a stroll.
True fact. A Commander once did that while I was a Lieutenant. Just.. Walked off the CIC. But, she didn't put anyone in charge, deployed the XO to the surface, and disappeared from the CIC for about twenty minutes.
Guess we did alright, considering. Moral of the story? Over-communicating is better than under-communicating... Even if you're stuck at attention for so long that a Tech Sergeant needs to jack your arm out of place with a crowbar.
