A Bit of Backstory

Believe it or not Anders does have a heart that does indeed get him killed from time to time. For example if he evacs but one of his closest friends doesn't evac with him he will ultimately decide to head back and refuse safety. Even during the midst of the battle he will show much courage and somewhat rage if a close person to him gets captured and he knows.
This is due to his family, which he loved and how many friends he had back on his home world. However W-Y performed experiments on his home world causing something to happen, and he had to go into surgery for injuries he received after it had happened to save his life. This would lead to them giving him medically indused amnesia and cause him to forget most of his homeworld and childhood memories. Including his family and friends. But remember enough that he knows they're all dead, so anyone who he can consider a family or whoever he feels at home with, he holds in a special regard.
Usually this will lead to a colliding turn of interest within him, causing him to stressfully talk to himself, his commonsense telling him, "You probably don't wanna try that," while his heart and feelings are screaming at him telling him, "You can't DARE leave them, they wouldn't leave you if you were them, now GET BACK THERE."
