SMES setting preferences

Post by Build_R_ » 06 Sep 2018, 17:44

Some MTs I meet enjoy eating the head off of other MTs that set SMES' with the standard input:250K, output:200k. A lot of people seem to have a preference, sometimes basing their values on what the computer says or at other times using their own custom setup. What do you guys believe is the best Input/Output setting for SMES'?

If I'm interested in switching it mid way : 250k in - 150k out.

If I'm just gonna leave it on its own without giving a damn : 125k in - 100k out

Reminder that you'll never use more than like 125,000 on the lower level, and like 50,000 on the upper level.
So setting your shit up for like 375,000 between the three SMEs is a huge waste.

I tend to hop between the power monitoring computer and the SMEs to "optimize" the power output/inputs. Only real reason to do this is so people without insulated gloves don't vaporize from electrified doors.

I've used 200k In 150k out, but I saw 200k In 100k Out as a viable alternative some rounds ago. 150k In 100k Out can work aswell, to charge the upper cells, and charge all the cells uniformly.

You just connect reactors to SMES output wires and forget about SMES settings

Uh, my prefered setting for SMES is 200k in and 100k out.

When all reactors are running 200k in provides an even/equal charge to all reactors, so they will all be charging at the same time. If you set them all to 250k in some of them will not charge.

Upper deck average is about 60k-100k of demand, so you're not going to need the SMES set more than that.
Lower deck average is around 150k of demand, so again, three SMES set at 100k out will be able to keep up with the load.

The 200k in/100k out, in my opinion is an efficient, easy to manage and remember setting that works pretty well for the Almayer Reactors.

It allows SMES to charge evenly, gives out enough to fullfill the ship's demand even if some of the SMES start running dry.

Also, once the SMES are fully charged, you may turn off half of the reactors and run with half power (or turn reactors off completely, but don't forget to turn them back on later) to conserve fuel cells and the time spent replacing/recycling them. That will be more than enough maintain the power demand of the ship and charge the SMES supplying the current load. And even if the reactors break down, the fully charged SMES will be acting as backup giving you plenty of time to address a power issue.
