Current Status of Alpha Squad: Docile Pups to Killer Wolves

Post by Gigazer » 01 Oct 2018, 17:10

Ah yes Alpha Squad, so ironic that they are the underdogs out of the 4 groups.

To be fair, they are the ones that get the freshly new boots that have never experienced true hell for the first time in their lives. Also, we can't forget that these baldies would run away from a push, steal weapons from other marines, accidentally throwing a grenade at a wall which can severely screw the whole operations, and the famously friendly-firing of squad members as well as killing an SL with a buckshot and so much more.

Now, on a positive note, there are veterans that would compensate the squad and as well as them helping the new baldies. Also, these baldies are like loyal puppies, so with enough "care" and training, maybe some of them would turn from little pups to big murderous wolves, and maybe one day would leave and join new packs.

(Man... I feel awkward from using wolf terminology. But fuck it! It kinda makes sense with the connections.)

So, yeah, that's my take of it all of this... ALPHA PACK DISBURSE!

How about no

I literally had to PB buckshot an alpha SL yesterday because he kept running at me and pushing, while I was trying to escape a boiler gas cloud with runners rubbing their claws in it.

Alpha are probably my favorite squad, the tend to listen to the orders utter and completely the majority of the time.

They're pretty robust too, just quite cowardly if they get routed.

I'd take a squad which listens to orders over robustness anyday hwoever.

1/10 crewies has potential to grow into a lean mean killing machine, while the rest just kinda fuck off and die, never to come back to CM.
I don't like those chances, which is why I'm not an alpha main.

I like playing Alpha (mostly). Expectations are generally low, and interacting with new players is more memorable than the same rotation of veterans other squads have to offer. I'm not trying to virtue-signal here, but, I find the incompetent antics to be entertaining; watching rookies juggle grenades and blow themselves up and the like. It adds to the atmosphere for me. The downside of this is of course, new players in key positions. Alpha Medics can be awfully frustrating to observe, same with Engineers, and heaven forbid they get Specialist. Though! There are new players in every squad. With a vocal SL and a gentle, if a little heavy-handed guidance, Alpha can really shine and create a totally unique experience; being that the only remarkable trait they have is. .being bald.

Alpha tends to be obedient but cowardly if they lose their 'strong figure' (be that the SSGT or a good/known aSL) at the worst moments...

They were also my first squad I mained.

Wow this thread came sooner than I thought.

I use to be an Alpha main like for a long time actually. I liked teaching the newer players because I had a veteran teach me how to play the game out of kindness. So we all do our part here.

The one thing I love about Alpha is in fact they are without a doubt the most obedient squad but also the most cowardly. You guys were right when you said that. They will break if the SL or Spec/aSL dies. Honestly as mostly new players I don't blame them. But when you get a good player like Hailee or sometimes Carson they can be pretty lethal so its hit or miss with them.

I do remember the days of good ole Alpha, but one day I had to make a change and join my friends in Delta.

I was also a loyal Alpha boi for a loong time. Sure, being the figure that the baldies look up to and follow, teaching them how to splint and climb windows, and other things can be fun. But then it becomes super unfun when the baldies who don't learn constantly screws you out of a round. It's not fun at all to be buckshotted into a crusher charge when you're trying to flame it, or get pounced by a lurker and have 3 alphas run the opposite direction.

I left Alpha because it got to a point where I genuinely hated and despised baldies, instead of trying to help them. I wasn't having fun at all, and the anti-baldie mindset was a toxic one to have. So, i had to finally pack up and leave the den full of pups I was constantly on the verge of murdering.

Boy, must you be glad to be in delta now. If you replaced Alpha with Delta you would have summed up 80% of my delta experience.

I’ve only been playing for a couple of months now, but my first character was an Alpha and it’s the squad I have the most experience with.

While I feel like we do have a tendency to just hug FOB or bunker down once a push fails instead of storming forward, I feel the squad does follow orders really well as a whole and had the potential to pull of some game winning moves if everyone cooperates.

Even with baldie newbies, once the majority of Alpha gets its ass in gear we can turn the whole match around.
I usually play Marines.

"Alpha follows orders."

Jesus fuck, y'all must not play on Alpha much. I play with no squad pref for the trailmix experience, and Alpha is absolutely awful about this. Not in the Deltard powergame metarush hive at 12:20 way, either. Alpha is the squad to go to if you want the SL to ignore the CO and get butchered alone. Alpha is the squad to go to if you want your corpsmen to wander off alone into the darkness to clear weeds, or plant mines up against FOB barricades. Alpha is the squad to go to if you have to remind your PFCs not to chase the red dogs every single time one runs by.

Alpha SG is one of the most mentally taxing roles there is because you're torn between trying to save your mentally deficient SL and corporals from themselves and trying to save your mentally deficient PFCs from themselves. At least Alpha Spec is usually competent, which is a good thing considering how often they take SADAR kit.

As for weapon stealing, in my experience that's not a squad thing, that's an engineer thing. Especially rear-line engineers who see your shiny attachment-laden weapon in FOB next to your tattered near-corpse and think that it's a gift left for them by the gods.
