Are there any plans to make separate, albeit smaller, ship models for the CLF, PMCs or UPP so the marines can get into ship to ship battles? Can't see it being hard since all you'd need to do is add the other ship as a separate map then it could affected by OB and CAS projectiles like ground targets, simulating ship-to-ship fire and bombing runs?

You could also do boarding actions using the DS by adding the other ship hanger as a separate destination late round after capturing an objective or something, in the same way the xenos can hijack the DS and crash it into the Almayer.
I usually play Marines.

This would be cool as hell.. We could even make a gamemode for it.

But i don't think devs would start working on it so soon, since they still gotta fix research, tank, bugs, etc.
I play Sydney 'Lilly' Wood, the totally not depressed doctor, And the marine Dylan Bell, that probably joined the USCM by accident.

This falls under "cool idea, hard implementation".

The idea itself is great, I'd love to play a gamemode like that, but creating 2-3 new maps entirely for this new mode would take an extraordinarily long time. along with balancing, and other projects currently in the works. Implementation would take... yea, a long, long time.

New map: USS Sulaco.

Gamemode: Search and Rescue or Full Knowledge

No CAS and OB, the ship to ship launch tubes near CIC are used instead, one use per tube.

Small map though, may need to be Lowpop only.

It'd be nice if it was physically attached to the Almayer through the docking tube, but having the Almayer map connected to the "ground" map is asking for lag.

It'd be cool and they already have a map that can be touched up for it, but aye, development time is scarce.

I reckon if we ever get a new map in the far future, a crashed Sulaco on some desert world would be prett sick. With the new objective system for marines coming out their could be a major objective of setting off the SD of the Sulaco to blow up the alien hive, their could also be crashed dropships scattered about the place and survivors would be given a random USMC job.

There sorta was, I was working on a version for each before I was fired. They weren't designed for ship v ship battles, but just for giving the factions a distinct ERT ship. The bigger ERT shuttles that we have currently are a replacement for the older one we used to have though.

Tank was never really "added". It was a test run and becouse at first there were no good tank crewmans, everybody liked it so it went in longer state for fun. Then Robustos learned to play tank, meta was build around it. Except you completely missed the mark by yet again showing your complete bias. Not only was husking removed - boiler clouds DO NOT INSTAKILL YOU. The glob is slow, and even on a direct hit you only die if you stay in the cloud like a dumbass. You could also bring a gas mask.

The issue with the tank is that it made or broke the match, giving one or two players the power to decide an entire round (hey... kinda like charge screech queen- anybody remember how that was horrible because "the queen was too powerful for one person"?) and that off screen instant gibs are retardedly strong. If you can't see how the tank did either then you need to take off your nostalgia goggles.

When the tank was around I remember few rounds where I was hurt a little (pain at yellow) and cloud (still pretty fast, speed of a crusher, or higher without any sound) hit me directly, which stunned me so I had to stay on the ground. Bringing a gasmask is a chore and it was even bigger one when gasmask couldn't fit in armor and even now it's bad. Bad to the point I could say: "You could also evolve into crusher". Waste a big chunk of slot in your tiny satchel, obscure half of your vision, be fast and lucky enough to be able to wear it and in the end get a little less damage from the cloud... How usefull.
I think that tank didn't gibbed any elder, or ancient of even T1 (I'm not sure), so it probably only affected young and mature xenos that are not supposed to fight a direct battle.

Gasmasks fit in armour and webbing. Sacrificing one mag or handful of buckshot is not fatal.

The stun from a direct hit is half a second at best. Unless you are already wounded you won't die... and direct hits are VERY hard to land. Much harder than LTB shots - one is instant, the other is slow. Besides gas doesn't do damage until it stops expanding.

The tank literally gibbed ANY xeno that wasn't a crusher queen or rav. No exceptions. Ravagers died to LTB TOW. Crushers got killed by LTB direct + flame. Queen remained as the sole "counter" - ballistic armour was still ridicolous enough to offset that.


Husking was removed. You don't husk anymore. You can always be brought back with a decent medic.

It was then, it's not now. Just like tank.
As I said: I was wounded, so it can kill you from offscreen easly, just be hit directly after FF, or one to two acid spits.

All I didn't know for sure was tank force, if it really killed nearly any xeno besides T3 then it was unfair.

Ships are fun to make, and while it could take a bit to map 'em all, I'd be more than happy to try. The issue, however, is that we'd need a spriter to be able to create new sprite palettes for each ship so each ship isn't sterile white or a carbon copy of the Almayer.

Bit of a note to the above: While recreating the sulaco itself wouldn't necessarily be difficult, the size is far too small and compacted for our current playerbase to make use of in any real enjoyable manner. It could be remastered, of course, but if you want to avoid the problems that a multi-level map can bring, it's a bit difficult (but possible) to bring everything into one level.

Also in regards to the feedback about ships, you could always make them like, a quarter or half the size of the Almayer, and just one level to save on time and resources. Of course all that separate animation and spriting would take time regardless. Still think it would be cool if we could get Ship V Ship battles at some point. At the very least I think the game needs more HvH components.
