Getting Sentry Guns to work

Post by chocolate_bickie » 16 Oct 2018, 06:45

Turn the safety off. The safety has no effect on IFF. It is a standard weapons safety that prevents the sentry from firing at all. Turning the safety off will not lead to the sentry murdering a PFC.

The video was taken is August, sentries have been patched since then. In addition the sentries never shot the marines when the safety was off, which is the the point I'm trying to make.

I played a round yesterday when sentries worked exactly as I've described, try it for yourself, their alot better, just remember to turn that safety off otherwise they will not shoot.

Pick the M56D, a satchel and get in on burst. Sentries are shit.

Been pretty much only picking the sentry the whole september during supa lowpop (>50 ppl and less). It still had a lot of bugs, and the one that makes it stop working was still there. Always turned off the safety, never helped.

I dont remember seeing any changelogs regarding the gitlab reports about sentry bugs. The last thing i've heard about them from the devs is spooky saying that 'yeah sentries need work' like a month ago.

So, unless they got patched very recently - they must still be the same, and in your case they weren't actually broken. I'll give them another shot tho

I stole a sentry from Alpha that was just standing around in the middle of nowhere and moved it over to the excevation caves on ice. I knew the xenos would push out there along with the queen so I set up the sentry at the cave entrance. Sentry bugged out never fired.

When queen noticed the sentry didn't shoot we got steamrolled and 15 marines who relied on the sentry actually doing shit died for it (We also lost the round because of that)

FUCK SENTRIES! No self respecting marine should ever ever ever pick a sentry over a M56D. M56D does either the same or more damage than the sentry. It fires faster. With a halfway decent marine its accuracy is already 300% better than the sentry. And target prioritization is also better when commanded by a human.

It also has more ammo, doesn't require batteries, doesn't explode when damaged, takes less time to move. Stop picking the god damn sentry!

Yeah sure M56D is way better than sentry, granted it is manned. sentry is still good for flanks no one likes to watch like Tcomms on both big red and prison, granted its not bugged.

The problem I found is that sentries won't fire if a gas cloud is in front of them, isn't the sentry using scanning mechanisms that would allow it to be a ble to see through a gas cloud? A marine manned M56D will continue to fire (granted the marine is ballsy enough to stay) the only way I see the sentry being useful is if it can see through gas clouds.

they arent even much good for this anymore. between people letting their batteries run out, their poor damage and inability to 360 degree anymore, IF theyre working theyre at best a glorified alarm system that alerts you using its gunshot noises, not something that will actually hold off xenos capable of thinking

The only good use of a sentry gun is blowing it up as a pseudo hand grenade. Debate me.

I used to be anti-sentry before I dragged one over to the tcomms hallway on prison, set it on narrow field of fire, and watched it almost singlehandedly stop a determined xenos advance. M56Ds have their place, but they're strongest when you have lots of marines to spare -- which isn't exactly when you need extra strength.

For static defenses, a sentry and a competent marine tends to do about as well as a M56D manned by that competent marine. The difference is that the sentry doesn't get bored and wander off -- and it's incapable of FFing marines or barricades.

When I play xeno and see a sentry I start rubbing my hands together. Sentries have such hilariously piss poor aim that they are just not a thread unless there really isn't any way to maneuver.

But in that case the M56D is still more useful. Also what kind of marine would leave an M56D, it's worth 10 marines. A sentry is worth -10 marines because you could have picked a M56D but decided not to.
