MPs need to fucking chill.
Honestly, why is this in the game?
You misclick once during briefing, while attaching something to your gun or loading your mag, or working with the clunky SS13 interface.
And there you go, removed from the round for at least 20 minutes. It's just not fun. It's just fucking obnoxious. All that happens is a medic places a bandaid over the wound and it's all fine, but you can fuck off out of the round for at least 20 minutes. And MPs wonder why they are FF'd so often.

Only 20 minutes? You are lucky. I'm usually over 40, muzzled and straightjacketed with general headset and in perma so I can't see anything, I can't talk and I can't do anything.Ranged66 wrote: ↑04 Nov 2018, 16:36Honestly, why is this in the game?

When I see an MP chase a marine through the ship or onto the DS from now on, I'll try my damn hardest to get in their way as much as possible. And every marine should.

As poo poo as that is - I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to have any weapons out in briefing - MPs are itching to have any gameplay. Just go back to Delta prep to sort your attachments out.

Re: MPs need to fucking chill.
Imagine it the situation backwards :
You're in the briefing, and a baldfuck primes a nade next to you, because he doesn't know how to behave with things like grenades, weapons...
20 minutes give you time to understand that you fucked up, and that you must be more careful for the next time. You're not in a single player game, when you fuck up, and you give a fracture to someone, or worst, an IB, or worst, a decap.. Shit happens, but when you can limit the fuck ups.. Do so. For the sake of everyone's fun around you.
Use it as a lesson, as a reminder to be careful for FF, and to not sniff glue.

Re: MPs need to fucking chill.
MPs usually have nothing to do till hijack so they’ll go hard on any rules violations. If they get mad your weapon is out call em rent a cops and go somewhere else. Also if you make it past briefing give em the slip on the dropships. I guarantee you once your planet side they won’t bother with you.
Basically as long as you ignore them they won’t bother you back.

well... you do know theres a hotkey to put the safety on your gun? Alt click your gun when its on your hand and problem is solved. All guns are supposed to be on safety realistically either way in briefing lol.

The alternative is having mods and bwoinks for every little thing like it used to be.

Re: MPs need to fucking chill.
MP's fill a vital role of dishing out IC punishments and imo they should be relied on more with bwoinks only being used for blatant rng/lowrp, I wasn't a huge fan of the mods outright banning the pre brief charlie/delta brawls that me and Ackers started a few months ago because it was a fun IC situation that didn't really hurt the round (at most a handful of marines missed first drop) and gave the MP's something to do/RP out.
The problem is with tryhard edgelord MP's who act like complete robots who go out of their way to run an ungas round over some minor infraction.

Re: MPs need to fucking chill.
I don't feel like getting into details, counterpoints, issues, and exceptions so I'll summarize as much as possible.
If you fuckup, expect consequences.
It's either going with the MPs or more mod involvement.
Also. Yes. Weapons out anywhere except say prep and other locations such as Requisitions and the Hanger/Tank Bay is improper equipment usage.
That improper equipment usage by the way? It used to be warning first, then a possible arrest and/or confiscation of weapon. Now, it no longer mentions the requirement of a warning first with a warning being mimimum punishment and up to 15 minutes + confiscation being the maximumIt's there. It can be used.
If you are an ass to a MP and are doing something criminal, your chances of being arrested rises … and that's ok.
Did you know that logic is real in real life too? Try cursing out a cop during a traffic stop.
As for the fabulous point of "Let's block the MP, walk into him, and push him while he's doing his job so we can mess with him"?
It's called interfering in an arrest and gets you anywhere from the same charge as the one being arrested (minimum punishment) or perma (maximum punishment).
It's also lowrp and escalates a situation needlessly as a MP quickly becomes "swamped", which then creates a even more dangerous/pathetic situation where the MP is forced to start wildly using their taser and other resources.\
Now, I'll end this on a "good note".
Sometimes MPs are heavy-handed. If it's out of the bounds of the penalty prescribed for what charge you've been given... mention it to the CMP. Hell, try showing them where in Marine Law it says it.
If it's REALLY OUT OF BOUNDS and the CMP doesn't care... try ahelping.
Example of the above situation:
CMP gives you perma time for a single charge of damage to government property. Since that is the only charge given and the max time for damage to government property is 30 minutes... The judgement is wrong in the sense of the penalty being above the maximum allowed. It wouldn't be prevarication but it'd certainly be NoD to some degree.

Re: MPs need to fucking chill.
I have recently started to main as Chief of Military Police. Misclicks are something I try to be understanding about, and frankly if you're arrested over one I do believe it's fair to ahelp the matter.
For more vague crimes that people don't normally remember what they are, I will normally give a warning of "keep this up and it's hooliganism", for example. If you did something accidentally, that's one thing, but the many people that consistently and knowingly break the law is another. Remember, also, that the CMP is the ultimate arbiter of crimes currently. Your sentence is not set in stone until you're in the cell. Weigh the value of spending 5 minutes in the cell versus being a dick to other people who are players, many of us just wanting to help staff, and being brigged for upwards of half an hour or more.
If you resist arrest and assault the MP, they could perma you. Don't give us a reason to.

Re: MPs need to fucking chill.
I have seen some really rough MPs mostly as my time when I myself am an MP. But most of the time a good chunk of the normal MP players are chill, but you will always have a hardass.
Though when i play I give warnings out more then I should TBH.
But given the situation in the first post, I would go ham on any marine who did so.
I mean look at it ICly. You are in briefing chilling and waiting for command you get their heads out of their asses. THEN BOOM, the guy next to you shoots a dude in charlie squad. He is running about, yelling he did not mean to. But MPs would smack him with so many punishments he might never see the light of day.
Now yes I know it is a game, that is why when you play MP it is important to use common sense. Was the guy that fired his gun off a baldy that is new to the server?
Or was it a known griefer being a dick once more trying to play in between the lines by saying "He did not mean too".
At the end of the day we are all humans playing a shitty space game with marines that run into firing lanes in mid-combat and doctors that love to give a bit to much quickclot.
We all fuck up from time to time, just understand that no matter how you do it or who you are. It always bites you in the ass some way or another.

MPs are the first line of defense between marines and a good ol'd bwoink. And trust me, if you get bwoinked, it would be better off just getting arrested.
I will say I normally don't care for improper equipment usage, as I rarely watch briefing over. But if I get one report of a marine getting shot, AWDW it is.

Re: MPs need to fucking chill.
It's ALL about context. Always.
I enforce the gun rule as dumb shit happens when it isn't. All it takes is one accident.
But a AHELP? No. Ahelping over being arrested for firing off your gun in briefing, accident or not, and being arrested is dumb. You fucked up. Deal with it. It's happened to me. It's happened to everyone.
Think of it this way...if someone accidentally fires off their gun in briefing... why? Well. Let's go with "misclick" example. Ok. Guy has misclicked and nobody is hurt... but why'd it happen? Well. He didn't have his gun put away and as such, he was in violation of proper equipment usage. We go from there. So, Improper Equipment Usage. Was he warned previously to have his gun away? If so, he fucked up and not only does he need a warning but a arrest should be made.
Was he not warned previously? If so, just a warning.
What about a misclick of a nade that kills/injures a squad in briefing? Suggesting they should be let off with a mere warning is just... it's not 'fair' for the marines injured/killed or compliant with marine law.
Long story short,
- Context Matters.
- There are consequences for actions.
If you fucked up, be prepared to pay for it. Life isn't fair and neither is CM.
- Uphold Marine Law to it's full extent so you don't have to deal with issues arising from failing to. Also, FOLLOW ORDERS. Know your RANK. Know your PLACE.
A Pfc mouthing off to just about anyone onto the ship? That's insubordination and it STACKS. If you talk shit and get hit with the insub charge of 30 minutes cause you stacked 6 insubordination charges by insulting superiors, don't AHELP it. You got yourself in a situation that legally IC is allowed to happen. Hell, if you insult enough you can end up getting 60 minutes which could become Perma. I've even had to set people's insub charges as Minimum Time (Five Minutes x how ever many times it occurred) because if I put it on anything except minimum time they'd be in Perma.
- Know your reasoning for any actions you take. "I don't know" or "I fucked up, sorry" is not good enough. That goes for marines and MPs.
Aka be smart. Not dumb.
- Brig is timeout and a way people in the game police without getting mods involved. Getting mods involved over a LEGAL time is pathetic. Example: Going to mods because you got 30 minutes for a crime with charges that DO fall in the range of 30 minutes.

As for that^. No. If you misclick and it hits... or doesn't hit someone... it's still a violation of marine law. As such, it's up to the discretion of the MP on the depth of penalty. That could be a improper equipment warning or a straight up jump to an arrest for improper equipment usage or NoD.Novus Luna wrote: ↑06 Nov 2018, 01:00...I have recently started to main as Chief of Military Police. MPs are antags on CM. On every other server Security is there to stop the antags. There are no antags on the ship (unless it's an event round). There's no reason for security on CM and if you commit any serious crime you prob gonna get warned or banned to not do it anyway. Waste of a player slot. AFK role most of the time. Definitely does not need to be there like 6 slots for them.
