Please fix the Smartgun.

Post by LightBeast » 08 Dec 2018, 16:07

Why is it so bad? It's a complete joke. Why are we having command reworks, tanks, all of this other fancy and arguably unnecessary stuff when the Smartgun, one of the most iconic weapons from the film and something that should be awesome to use in-game, is completely worthless? Smartguns and pulse rifles are kind of the worst weapons you can get for USCMC, but at least you can put attachments on pulse rifles.

It's hard enough to use the Smartgun against aliens as the delay to fire and between firing is ridiculous so a single runner can sprint circles around you and meme you to death, but even if you DO hit, the bullets do absolutely pathetic damage! I just played a HvH round against UPP and I get the drop on this UPP coming around a corner. I burst him in the head with my Smartgun, then he returns fire and bursts MY head and I immediately pain crit, collapse after three steps, and slowly die as he runs past laughing!

The Smartgun should be the powerful game-changer that it is in the films, not some awful, clunky rear-line support weapon used to randomly spray bullets that do very little damage. It needs to fire faster and the bullets need to do FAR MORE DAMAGE. The damage issue alone is inexplicable, I mean why would that gun ever have such low damage output compared to others? It should be the highest in the game besides sniper rifles and a point-blank face-full of buckshot. The FF feature is neat, but makes no difference since the gun itself is almost completely useless.

Can we please fix this, devs? I would put this as a much higher priority than the other things you guys are working on for marines. That's my baldie opinion. Smartgun rework when?
To start, simply buff the damage up to sniper-rifle tier, already a huge improvement. For a bigger rework, I think it should have an auto-tracking feature that allows it to counter meme sprinting runners. Keep the ammo/power limited to balance it, but have it be very dangerous in the right situations and a counter to fast, hard-to-hit xenos. It would make much more sense and be more effective in that role. Just reduce the movement speed to walk speed when auto-tracking or something.

Another suggestion - Make the eyepiece/red vision mode the auto-track mode with slower move speed. Flip up the eyepiece for standard manual aiming mode. That with a damage buff would fix the SG to make it actually useful and more accurate to the film.

We just need
More ammo
Better DPS
More attachment options

Or possibly
Integrated motion detector in the actual smartgun so we don't have to carry one like retards on our suitslot
Phillip 'Avalanche' Murray
They are actually very balanced. The difference is ya get marines who think they can rambo a xeno and when they die, they get all salty about it.Mizari 10/12/2018, Xeno mutators

Because lore accuracy doesn't always mean fun gameplay.

I'd probably dig an ammo buff though.

Remove SG from squads. Add SG spec. Give him tracking and AP. Enjoy beno-tears and fear from something else than SADAR.

Well I mean it's no wonder threads are going to pop out about it, when it takes longer to wield a smartgun than starting up Windows XP

I understand this, solidfury, but in this case it would certainly be more fun. Balance the game around effective weapons, don't balance it around broken weapons that don't work. Right now the SG is I think the hardest weapon to be effective with compared to others, and is inferior even to side arms with the right attachments. It would be far more fun to bring it closer to it's movie counterpart.
