Murphy's Law of Command (A long story of Marine Struggle-bussing)

Post by Mech__Warrior » 23 Jul 2016, 05:08

Murphy's Law of Command clearly states that if anything can go wrong, it will. That pretty much sums up the round at about 1 am, 7/23/16. I was Rei Poward as the commander, only to immediately hear somebody beating the shit out of themselves as I got done telling the marines to meet in briefing in twenty minutes. I start investigating. and find out that our only doctor managed to not only stick the scalpel into his body, but the saw as well before asking me for help. I yank them out of his body before patching his wounds and giving him one tramadol pill. I then get an LOOC from him telling me he was new and I linked him to what he needed to know. My XO then tells me that he wants to go down on the planet's surface to direct the marines down there and I agreed before giving my briefing. I then went back to check on the doctor only to find that he OD'd on tramadol and died.

No SLs, no medical staff, no hope...I had to rally my marines using a ton of announcements, trying to guide them all at once while also being in charge of transport. This is about what happened during the entire round;

1. Ended up having evac authorized when it was 30 marines vs 15 aliens as the screams of my soldiers filled my ears before they got their shit together.
2. Had to have all radio channels active to gauge the situation.
3. Had RO deliver me the corpses of my enemies as they were left on the pod.
4. Being unable to launch OBs or supplies because I had no squad leaders, so we had to use the pod.
5. Having LZ1 be overrun and all of the turrets smashed.
6. Eventually beat the xenos back from T-Comms even when the situation was dire.
7. Have multiple larva running around on my ship.
8. Have to set cryo so that when marines died, they could be brought back.
9. Having the CE turn on the rad collectors but not charge the SM crystal.
10. Had my marines kill 5 different queens throughout the round. Yes. 5.
11. Stalking the xenos to find them building in my quarters, only to slip on my bar of soap, twice. Dropped my weapon twice and got my skull broken as a reminder that soap is your greatest enemy.
12. Having a baldie CMO drag me all over the place before getting me to the OR before telling me that he was new and didn't know how to grab. He then puts himself on the operating table and couldn't get off of it. After an MP helps him off the table, he still couldn't figure out how to put me on the table and keeps dragging my body around.
13. Died as the baldie CMO gets banned and covers up my corpse.
14. Have the MP assisting him watch a larva slip into the vent before taking my ID.
15. Lay dead until the end of the round because nobody had the common sense to clone the person who held everything together.
16. Have a distress beacon be called even though I logged out of the console after two failed attempts and have the responders be Xenos. They ended up being dispatched while I laid there lifeless.
17. Have the surviving marines fire a SADAR on the Rasp, only to breach the hull and depressurize the entire hangar.
18. Have the shuttle actually arrive with marines still being alive.
19. Scream internally as you watch your pawns keep fucking up the simplest of tasks for four straight hours.
20. Have somebody grab your corpse and drag it all the way back to the pods at the end of the round.

I honestly have no words. We could have had this round so many times, but we just kept dropping the ball and there was really no real way to fix it unless I was actually down there. I was screaming internally the entire time and managed to do this without alcohol.

Ah yes, I remember this round.

I remember the Doctor hitting himself with the scapel and saw. He got the saw stuck in his chest cavity too. No idea what he was doing.. Maybe performing surgery on himself?

I was considering applying for a job ban on that Doctor but it was hilarious and no one ahelped about it so I let it be.

The first Elite Empress suicided into the FOB though :/ No idea why she went in like that, also alone.

I was one of the queens that died that round too.

Let us also not forget the voices Rei was hearing at the beginning of the round in her head...

"...Looks like you're without your chain of command..."
Rei pulls out the Chain of Command from her backpack. "Nah, I got it right here."
"Good..."

-XO appears and salutes before I tell him to be at ease.-

"...You should hit him with that, it'll bring him in line..."

Haha, how did you find out about that one?

After the XO saluted, I SM'd her saying that the XO respects the of command, you should hit him with that chain as a suitable reward.

I actually enjoyed the bizarre stuff on this round. A pity I didn't spotted that doctor, because I would laugh a lot.

I latejoined as Erika 'Hunter" Degrasse, on Squad Engineer role.
When I became aware that we had two larvas around, Erika obviously decided to hunt them.
And I had a lot of fun handling the many situations.

- Ultra Robust Xenomorph Drone (U.R.X.D) escaping everyone's attempts to kill it. Dodging the Commander. Slashing people everywhere.

- People hunting it, but not having someone to weld vents. (I did most of the welding, and even had to hack doors for it. Some doors I blasted with C4 instead.)

- When I came to bridge? Noticed a large ammount of xenomorph corpses here. (Certainly it was stinking as hell... That RO who did it is a sadistic. Poor bridge officers...)

- Erika rescued a liaison. He was sleeping by his back office. Completely healthy. (Bet the xenos were sparing him for hosting a larva later. But it felt kinda uncanny to find someone sleeping peacefully in face of all the attacks. KKKK)
Erika left her turret there for a while, pointed to a vent, as a trap for the xeno.

- U.R.X.D appeared by the brig. Erika and many others had a fight with it. It harmed my char, and survived. (Erika patched herself up, and vowed revenge.)

- We got the distress beacon working by itself (actually an admin intervention), a XRT came, then the ground xenos went up, and Erika started building defenses on the hangar. Brought her turret to the ladders, welded doors, and placed tables.

- Guess what? U.R.X.D dropped by, slashed Erika, tumbled the turret that was directed to east, and went away.
But he wasn't counting on Erika's infamous hunting tactics that would make many predators envy her...
She placed the turret back online, turnet it's 360 rotation, and left herself there as a bait.
...Her nemesis decided to do his trick again...
...and now got blasted by the turret, finished by Erika's rifle and - of course - she dragged his corpse near bridge and C4ed him for the good - leaving his gibs and guts splashed over the floor. (LOL)

- Breach on Hangar caused by the Mythical guy who Sadarized the Raspie... Evacuation called...
Erika patched herself again, went for engineering, rescued a survivor that was there for some reason asking for help through radio, ran with her to the escape pods...
...and after arriving on that safe station, took many gulps from a coffee cup and relaxed like a badass.
( Of course she was going to invite that suvivor girl for a lunch later... :3 )

>>>Quite the "pyrrhic but happy" ending on the spirit of most Aliens movies.

Since Erika is someone who always go to the front lines on dire situations, it's quite rare for her to escape Sulaco and live for another day when Sulaco get invaded. We failed - but at least for my char, it was a really satisfying failure.

The Newbie Staffed Medbay ruined it for your char. :(

That was a looong shitfest. And I was there for the entire round.

Around 5. I was taken by aliens and put into a nest. The Hivelord stood right next to me and two others, with a third behind a door. One of the Marines in a nest next to me eventually was able to equip their rifle and managed not to fall down for about 10 seconds while the other aliens came to aid. I took this time to get my revolver out and put a bullet in my head, as I was able to break free but was waiting for an opportunity. I took my resin cuffs off from a previous suicide attempt. Soon after, the one that started the ruckus succumbed to the infection still next to my corpse at the nest, and I was the one who came out.

I evolved into a Drone and went over to help the others get the Marines that were held up in T-Comms. We stood behind the resin walls, and we had a few nests up with some people in them. I ended up being close to the Queen (I think she was the Empress) that walked into their fire. She was being loaded with bullets, and a grenade was thrown right on her. I made an attempt to pull her to safety, but I apparently didn't get her in pull and failed - had to retreat before the grenade went off. I wish I kept trying to pull her away, though. But I probably would've died along with her anyhow. Shortly after that, there was a straggler that escaped his/her nest. They lead me over a mine and it killed me. I think after that I was just roaming around a ghost for some time. I noticed later that the aliens were no longer at T-Comms, seeming as if they were unfortunately held back from the fight.

7: I was one of the larvae. I had jumped out of a patient in surgery and managed to escape the bullets on my ass as I wiggled my way towards the vent at sonic speed. I got out, but I was unable to evolve because I was wounded. I stayed in hiding for some time, and I eventually tried to make my way onto the planet via shuttle/pod. I took the vent to the hangar. The shuttle was clear, but I had nowhere to hide. I made my way to the medical room when I could and went to hide in the door next to the pod, watching. The pod soon left, and I still waited. A Medic eventually came with a crate, standing patiently next to the landing zone. Later on, someone came into the room using the right side entrance, and I booked it back to the vent on the far side, next to the shuttle. Later made another attempt to hide, inside the Cockpit door. Got found and went back again - going into hiding. Eventually by a miracle I came across another larva in hiding.

They evolved into a Drone, and I became a Sentinel after getting healed. We went around rooms getting weeds up; going back into the vents when they were about to go at our hide again. We did some weed growing in Charlie prep for a bit, lights out. Had to leave after someone went into the prep rooms welding vents. We crawled to a room next to the Bridge and made the mistake of not going back into the vents while we still could. We went through maintenance and you were right behind me. You slipped on the soap and I dragged you with me, slashing at you before you got back up. The Drone was ahead of me prying the way out and I had bullets going up my ass while I ran towards the open door. I tried to make a real quick turn out... ending with me running right into the wall next to the door and then biting the dust. I was damn annoyed.

Very shortly after, I jumped out of a monkey that was in the jungle; became a Drone once more. We had a really low amount of sisters, which sadly started happening during the larva crawling all over the Sulaco phase. I became the fourth Queen and started putting some resin doors and walls in the South section of the Nexus. A Hunter, the only other alien alive on the planet found me and told me they were all over the caves, so I turned it into a mini-hive. We heard on the Hivemind that there were more of us. Six of ours not on the planet. Had some hope going there. Marines eventually came with the Hunter somewhere else and I booked it out. I hung out by the pod landing zone with weeds. Hunter took the long way back to me. A few Marines found us, we backed off then went back. Hunter lured the Marines somewhere else afterwards. Both of us went to Hydro, and a larva appeared. Gave it jelly, turned into a Runner. We walked over to the shuttle, and I called it. My extremely shitty luck decides to show up and pull the plug on my Internet right when it was about to land. When it came back, I of course died, the Runner not to be seen. The Hunter was the only one that lived, who died later on.

And so forth, after my millionth and last demise I drifted on as a ghost. I noticed the Marines were dropping like flies thanks to the accidental breach, the sky sister that didn't die turned into the last Queen who nearly died in Maint, but thankfully didn't because they didn't even realize she was down thanks to the dark. It finally happened later on, her getting tagged by a group of Marines and fighting back robustly before going down. The last thing I recall before they evacuated is a couple of people dragging your corpse to escape as you spoke about it in dead chat. Fin.

I took way too long to write this. Screenshots are below, I'm hiding in doors in a couple of them.

Ah yes, I was the URXD that showed up at the brig. I made myself a nice nest in the execution room until some engineering found out about it.

There was another drone before me that could've killed some people.

I came after them and mostly stick to killing people in Medbay. I went downstairs because nearly all the upper deck vents were welded. I made a nest in the morgue and saw you welding the side morgue door. Readied my tail and got ready to go out but that stupid turret was in the way. I hit the turret a couple times and then you pulled out your M41A in burst. I got scared and ran, popped back out after I healed but you had repaired the turret. I went to hit the turret again and it just shot me 3 times with burst. Instant-crit and I died.

Cheers, Chance. You were the xeno who got the commander.

Didn't interacted directly with me, but your char's actions added a lot to the paranoia atmosphere in that round.
Erika heard you moving in the hangar some times. And the commander asking for help too. ^^

Loved the pics.
You were the "Solid Snake" of the Xenomorph army that round, literally. ;)

So, that was a really interesting battle, Warnipple.
Basically a hunter versus hunter thing, considering the robust drone too.
A combat saga between two cunning strategists.^^

From all my chars, Erika is the most adept on "Dirty tricks" - specially if she's in engineering related role.
You had no way to know she had reconfigured the turret and wasn't expecting it to fire in that direction.

But the fact? And you almost got her.

She was bleeding from the first attack, and some seconds after finishing the drone, her vision blurred badly.
- The only reason she didn't fell to the ground was the tricordrazine and gauze she got in a vendor.

I can't remember the whole story because of everything that happened that round. I also know how robust the chain is, and didn't want to break his ribs without a doctor on standby.

I bet if the doctor wasn't dragging me around as much as he was, I would have just been bucked into a stretcher for the rest of the round due to a fractured skull. But that's semantics really.

I was also in that round I remember a very specific person whining about the XRT when it was the only thing to keep things going busy on the Sulaco while there was like two or so aliens on the surface left.
