The best way to fight it is to throw rocks at it to piss it off, then run back to your squad of 12 marines.

Re: A new way of fighting preds
You could always do what our squad did one time when the SL saw a pred shortly after deploying. Chase it down with more than half a dozen marines in tow, eventually surrounding it in a hail of bullets until it exploded and killed at least 3 people and crippled the rest.
James "Car" Irving: You don't need to be the best to be a hero. You don't even need to be smart. Being a hero comes from the heart. That, and a pack full of napthal and hand grenades.
Edward Roth: The promotion and transfer to Military Police was great on paper. The living hell of keeping a ship full of trained killers running smoothly wasn't on that paper.
Mary Adams: She didn't want to be here, but how else could she get to finish medschool? And who the hell else is gonna know the difference between Tricord and Kelotane?
Kimley Greco: Too cool for school, wears cans like a tool.

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I prefer to use soap and buckshot against preds. Occasionally the machete.

Re: A new way of fighting preds
A marine would NEVER lay on the ground by himself when facing a predator.
Seriously...
They are visibly dangerous at the first sight.
Not because of the weapons and "hunter trophies" in their gear - that in some cases are quite inconspicuous (some predators only carry retractable weapons and no trophies at all).
And the gear itself isn't actually easy to properly identify as being of alien origin or particularly dangerous.
In some cases, if not too close, the predator may look like just "a large person in salvaged pieces of armor, with improvised clothes and a weird mask".
But the main reason why they would be always perceived as a possible threat?
Is because they are much larger than a typical human and are in a place that had sent a distress call some time ago.
And, a second reason for them to look dangerous?
The predator's skin - when closely examined - look at least "very weird"...
The texture doesn't look normal.
And the dark spots all over it stand out.
If the marine still thinks the predator is "a large human in weird armor"....
....this detail will make at least some think that they are humans carrying some sort of disease, that got contaminated by something (radiation burns maybe) or even that they got altered in some way (steroids, genetics, who knows...).
Still, the size stands out as the main element for the predators to be easily perceived as dangerous.

Long time ago, I, Ka'Torag-na Halkrath, Skilled Master Hunter Of Prey, Unleashed an unspeakable evil upon Xenos and Humans! But a foolish Xeno Hunter wielder of robustness stepped forth and opposed me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore a gate of Salt of Solitude and flung em into the world of CM, and took out their Facehugger Capabilities! Now, this Xeno Fool seeks to return the favour, and undo my evil reign and of many other predator predecessors!

I highly recommend backing away before the Pred explodes or you and your medic are going to have a bad time.
Troublesome, as usual.

Re: A new way of fighting preds
Whenever I see a Pred, I have flashbacks to how awesome it was for Preds to slaughter marines in the AvP games. Then I think, "it'd be cool if i wuz like those muhreens xdxdxdxdxdxddxddddddxddxxxxxxxx" and shoot at it. That might just be me, though.
