Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
Yes, I am aware.
Do you understand how the Battlefield Execution functions?
The Battlefield Execution is the Commander’s tool to immediately remove someone in the most permanent manner if they are threatening the completion of the mission, in instances where MP’s either cannot enforce, or cannot react quickly enough to prevent undue harm to your chances of success.
I believe the three key aspects needed for a valid battlefield execution have to be the immediacy of the threat, the severity of the threat, and the presence (or lack thereof) of Marine Law.
- Immediacy - Can I afford to wait until MP’s arrive for the problem to be solved? Can I afford to try to talk them out of it, or otherwise waste the time that a quick execution would save?
- Severity - Does this individual’s actions threaten the entire mission, the lives of marines (and myself), or just my authority? Is it severe enough to warrant killing them and removing them from the round?
- Marine Law - Can the MP’s respond? Is Marine Law being upheld such that I can rely on the MP’s to enact justice, or are the other two aspects critical enough such that a BE is necessary.
Do you understand you are not above Marine law, or allowed to enforce it yourself?
Yes, nor would I want to supersede it, except in cases of crisis such as with the BE.
What do you think is the job of a Commander?
The commander is ultimately responsible for the decisions of their command staff, leading the marines, and inspiring the men, be it through charisma or fear. In a game sense, they’re perhaps one of the more influential roles in how a round goes, particularly in a negative sense. Bad command decisions will be your responsibility, misjudged BE’s can take a player out of the round permanently, banning medications can cost lives. The key to it is to roleplay realistically, to give reason to your actions, and to behave such that, even if someone (reasonable) was to disagree with your actions, they could at least see how you would make such a decision. You are a figurehead for the marines, and you need to act the part.
If a member of your staff is disobeying orders, how would you handle it?
Much like my rule of thumb for BE’s, it’d depend on the factors regarding it.
Is it something minor, like not bringing you coffee? - Verbal reprimand or a short talking-to in my office. Don’t do it again.
Is it severe, like countermanding your orders? - Send them to the brig, strip them of their position if needed.
Is it immediate, like a SO trying to remotely call up the dropship against your orders, or running to a console to drop a bad OB? - This is where I would BE.
Why should you be whitelisted?
During my time as a staff officer and XO, I would like to think I’ve demonstrated an ability to lead competently and with a good degree of roleplay involved. I’ve built up my reputation with Trianna Jesowitz as a good leader, and I think that taking that reputation to the role of commander is a good step. I’d like to try my hand at the role and provide my own personal spin to it, while upholding the tenets of commandership that the CO’s before me have put forward.
Thank you!
