Player name you use the most: Patton 'Hardtack' Moore

Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
Yes I do understand.
Do you understand how the Battlefield Execution functions?
I do understand the battlefield execution functions, having seen many firsthand some completely justified and some not. These experiences have taught me the role of battlefield execution. A battlefield execution is an absolute last resort of a commander to deal with an extreme threat to either himself, or the ship. This tool is one that lies at the bottom of the commanders proverbial toolbox and should only be used in the most dire of circumstances. A good commander must understand that by performing a battlefield execution, he is removing a player directly from the round something that should not be done lightly and only in the most extreme of circumstances. The following situations are just some I have observed over my lengthy experience as XO and SO and my thoughts on them reflect my opinions on how it should be used.
- An SO had been extremely confrontational with the CO and other staff throughout the round, they have been spoken to numerous times but the SO in question continues this behavior. Eventually this culminates in the SO withdrawing his sidearm and opening fire at the commander in CIC. At this point the commander in this situation withdrew their sidearm and opened fire on the rouge SO, killing them. In doing this the commander performed a lawful battlefield execution. The situation, was dire. A lethal weapon was being used against the commander and the commander responded with his option of last resort to protect himself and the rest of the CIC staff. The commander was completely in the right and chose the best option.
- An SO had been insubordinate throughout the round yet the CO continued to give him chances. The SO was ordered to remain in CIC while the commander at the time dealt with an issue elsewhere on the ship that needed his immediate attention. Upon returning to CIC the commander in question had found out that the SO had abandoned his post to go alien hunting. The Commander met with the SO outside the CIC hallway and battlefield executed him for abandoning his post and insubordination. The commander during this situation acted legally and the BE was indeed lawful as decided by Feweh. But it was not the best decision for the problem at hand. The SO was not a threat, and was not actively harming anyone. What the CO should have done was inform the MPs and had the SO arrested for his crimes as the matter was not one that needed the immediate removal via BE. Again although this was lawful, it was the wrong tool used.
- An SO in the CIC was sitting at her post doing her job. An Admiral had just boarded the ship and was in the CIC with the CO and XO, I was sitting at an overwatch station engaging in conversation with the Admiral and CO. The SO sitting next to me at her station directed an insult toward me. Due to some error of miscommunication the Admiral took it as an insult towards himself and promptly executed the SO who despite insulting her fellow SO, was doing her job. This was during an Admiral round and due to it being chosen by staff was given leeway. But the point remains, this was the epitome of when not to battlefield execute someone. It could've easily been solved with some discussion and perhaps a quick brig time.
To conclude, a battlefield execution is one of the most controversial tools used by a commander to protect the ship and himself from danger that cannot wait to be dealt with via any other circumstances.
Do you understand you are not above Marine law, or allowed to enforce it yourself?
Yes I do understand, the only time I should ever come close to enforcing anything would be with a battlefield execution in an extremely dire situation.
What do you think is the job of a Commander?
A commanders job is the job of a director, a stage manager who ensures everything is running like clockwork and the cast is following the script, so to speak. There are several types of commanders, those that rule with an iron fist, those that micro manage through their SOs and those that delegate. A commander that delegates responsibility is one that will be most effective. If everything on the ship is running smoothly, with SLs, SOs and XOs doing their jobs and all other departments running at full capacity. The COs job should be that of running the ship at the higher level, delivering key information to his SOs for them to pass along. But often times this is not the case and that is why the role of commander is so very important.
Many times back during the days of the Sulaco as a boot marine fighting for my life in hydro with the aliens thrashing us from the front and the shipside staff mucking things up from behind. But then, the popup arrives. "Attention all hands, Commander Bloggins on deck!" This bold black text that appears at the side of the screen is one that begins to reassure the PFC. In his head the PFC thinks "Dont worry, the Commander is here, he will begin sorting stuff out." The commander's Job, first and foremost is to ensure the ship is running efficiently and effectively and that all departments are giving it their all to keep the marines on the ground fighting. The commanders job is important and when the commander arrives in a round it allows everyone to breathe a collective sigh of relief.
If a member of your staff is disobeying orders, how would you handle it?
There are many situations that can arise with this very broad question, but I will generalize into several categories and showcase a response to each.
- Low threat. A staff Officer is refusing something simple, maybe they keep calling me by my first name or continue to mess with another squad. This can be dealt with by pulling them aside, speaking with the Staff Officer in question and
hopefully resolving the situation whereupon they can return to their work.
- Medium threat Perhaps a doctor continues to make a drug I specifically forbid them to make and continues to distribute it. This situation can be resolved with a quick radio to the MPs and ordering the doctor arrested. I can then demote the doctor in question.
- High threat I am planet side helping the marines retreat. One PFC continues to close the shutters despite marines desperately trying to board. After ordering him not to this marine continues to try and close the shutters against my direct order and in doing so he is putting marine lives at risk by locking them out. At this point there are no MPs there to deal with this and he has refused my orders. I would draw my sidearm promptly order him to stop and if he continued to put marines at risk I would
engage with a BE.
Why should you be whitelisted?
Since I began playing CM ive played in every single role, but the ones I feel most comfortable in are that of SO and XO. I've put many hours in leading marines effectively to which many COs will agree. I wish to be able to take the next step and lead marines as a commander, striving to provide a good round to all involved. I work hard as XO and do my best to ensure everything runs smoothly and I wish to take up that job, but as a commander. Providing that feeling of relief I once received as a marine in a difficult situation, when I see that a commander has joined the round.
Thank you, and I look forward to your feedback!

Patton is a player that I can familiarize myself with since he has been in the community for a long time. I have never had a bad experience with him, other than that I know he is a great player and that he is used to playing in command positions, especially as XO.
Your examples of when to use battlefield execution shows that you, unlike other commanders, will definitely be more rational and will not use it in unnecessary situations, even though I have not found your example of how to act in a somewhat threatening situation frequent.
Your application is decent, and you are a competent and good player to have at the CiC, even though I have not participated in it for a long time.
+1. Good luck.

While I haven't seen you in a command position or atleast can't remember it, I believe that the answers you gave conclude that you would be a good Commander. I also very much like the formatting, good job on that.

I once promised him that W-Y would get him a promotion to CO and his very own Aircraft carrier if he killed someone for me. Well, the Almayer has two aircraft in it, so, close enough!
For real though man is an amazing XO who is very active. I've been waiting for CO apps to open up again just so I could see this one right here. +1 for days.

Patton can keep an operation held together while, at the same time, providing good RP. Keeps the CiC alive and is nice to have around, especially whenever he's giving his opinion during a situation. Honestly thought he was already whitelisted and whenever I saw him as XO would ask myself why he wasn't CO.

While I myself have never familiarized myself with Moore, I can most certainly say that he is a very competent leader who can make a decent plan and RP as well. This is going to be a +1 from me.

Seen Moore around enough that I'm sure he's not just some Baldie and can/will effectively play the role of commander without vanishing into thin air.
