Do you understand that any player - even donors or staff members - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our Server Rules or Roleplay Guidelines?
Yes I do.
Do you understand how the Battlefield Execution functions?
Yes, I am a firm believer that the Battlefield Execution should only be used in extreme circumstances (Munity, Murder, Seditious Activities), or if someone is detrimental to the mission and going to cost lives through extreme negligence. Otherwise I am a firm believer in encouraging roleplay and believe most things should be handled by marine law procedures and through the CMP/MP branch.
Do you understand you are not above Marine law, or allowed to enforce it yourself?
Yes. I do encourage, believe, and support role play. If I see violations through marine law depending on my role, I will forward it up or down through the chain of command to the Military Police so they can do their jobs.
What do you think is the job of a Commander?
The commander has many roles both In Character and Out of Character:
The most important job Out of Character is to determine the overall strategy for the map, and decide what squads do what, what dropships do what, etc... When I play XO without a CO and have to make the determinations, I look at the crew manifest and see who is leading which squad, and what the squad has in terms of special weapons/medics/engineers. For example I would not put a squad with 1 engineer and a pyrotech on FoB duty or Comms duty. If I know the squad leader is competent, I would have their squad be on the offensive.
In character besides giving briefing and orders, the other important part of being the commander is roleplay. I'm more of a roleplay oriented person, and I believe in following the chain of command and delegating duties to the XO and Staff Officers. I also believe in communicating with the Company Liason, and also communicating with the crew in person when the situation permits and presents itself. Sometimes as a Staff Officer I have gone down with permission to the medbay to speak with the soldiers I am assigned to overwatch while their SL is down below. I also believe in giving the soldiers the equipment they need and request if we have the abilities to do and it's truly needed.
The other IC responsibility is to provide morale and support to the marines. I believe in positive reinforcement, and will regularly tell my squads on OW that they're doing a great job, keep it up, etc... When leading the operation as XO I will send announcements of encouragement. Finally I think another important job something many commanders forget to do without being reminded by the SO/XO members is to hand out medals to soldiers. Video game players love achievements, and I think people should be rewarded for the good work they do. If a Robust marine singlehandedly takes out 6 xenos by himself, they deserve an achievement/award.
If a member of your staff is disobeying orders, how would you handle it?
It really depends on why the order is being disobeyed. If an order is being disobeyed because of self-preservation (For example telling a SO to have their squad assault place X and turns out place X is overrun with Xenos, and they need to withdraw.)
If the order is being disobeyed because the person is not paying attention, overwhelmed, etc... I would talk to them and give them a stern warning/talking too
If the order is being disobeyed because the person is trying to role play in the form of an antagonist, then depending on the breech, I would go the CMP/MP route and have them look into it and determine if any charges are warranted. If the person is disobeying orders because of extreme negligence and they are ignoring attempts to speak with them to correct the behavior, it would go the mark for insubordination route.
Why should you be whitelisted?
Well I've been playing XO/SO for a little bit now, and have had a couple trial by fires where I had to lead the operation as an XO without CO. I was going to wait until July to post this application, but I've noticed a lack of CO's playing on the weekends (Not sure because of coding changes, or the white listed people want to play other roles.)
I'm not a power hungry person, I believe in the team effort with a philosophy of leadership over management. I also believe in roleplay, and am not the type of person who goes to briefing and says. "Ok here's what each squad is doing, gl hf" and just sit on the bridge for the remainder of the round and go silent.
I believe in delegating duties over micromanagement because there are Staff Officers, Squad Leaders, and Executive Officers who can use the experience to learn, as I believe a person learns over time with practice, and my goal would be to help these players grow in their abilities to serve the community better.
I handle stressful situations IRL as a cop everyday including decisions that are considered life and death for some. I'm used to the chaos and having to multitask, so listening to every channel at the same time is nothing I am not used to.
Muchas Gracias for taking the time to read this.
