- Yes. I’ve read them back, forth, and back again.
Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer):
- USS Almayer Operational Archives – Audio Recording No. 21850814-XR12 (Transcript)
- The following transcript describes two interactions between the acting Lieutenant Commander [Engineering & Logistics] and Solomon, a refurbished Weyland-Yutani synthetic. While this unit is technically obsolete by USCM standards, worsening circumstances in the Outer Rim necessitated the re-activation and re-assignment of this unit to the USS Almayer in 2185. Partial re-formatting of this unit was required prior to full activation.
- The following transcript extracts are classified as SECRET.
[Recording Playback - Start]
[00:01] Lieutenant Commander (LCDR): Can you hear me?
[00:04] Unknown (U): Affirmative.
[00:07] LCDR: Identification Number?
[00:09] U: A20/TQ3.0.35022E4
[00:13] LCDR: Good so far – uh, stand by, releasing locomotion inhibitors L9 through L12.
[00:16] LCDR: Alright, can you move your head?
[00:18] LCDR: Look left, right – up, down – good, response normal.
[00:23] LCDR: Execute initialization speech.
[00:25] U: Hello. I am a Weyland-Yutani model VL-246 synthetic – Identification Number A29--
[00:30] LCDR: Skip that, what is your purpose?
[00:32] U: As the exclusive property of the United States Colonial Marines Corps, I am designed to fulfill a number of roles and duties intended to assist personnel--
[00:40] LCDR: Alright, good enough--
[00:42] U: What is my name?
[00:44] LCDR: --Your name?
Recording skips forward.
[00:49] LCDR: Solomon. Your name is Solomon.

[Recording Playback - Start]
[00:01] LCDR: That’s the basics covered – alright, we’re going to do something a little different today: what’s the meaning behind your name?
[00:06] S: Male, given name. Derived from Hebrew – “peace” is the closest approximate translation. An apocryphal king of Israel famed for his wisdom.
[00:14] LCDR: Data retrieval looks good … but you’re going to have to work on your structure and syntax. Remember, delivery is more important than information sometimes.
[00:21] LCDR: Good – I want you to think about this next test carefully. Do you know the Judgement of Solomon?
[00:24] S: Of course.
[00:25] LCDR: What would you do, Solomon?
[00:27] S: I am not authorized to wield a weapon under the Geneva Convention.
Recording skips forward.
[00:37] S: That was a joke, Lieutenant Commander.
[00:40] S: I would require some time to assess the situation personally – with sufficient data, my contextual and semantic programs would be able to deduce the mother from a variety of sources – vocal inflection, body language, and probabilistic response patterns.
[00:52] LCDR: Imagine that you didn’t have those tools at your disposal.
[00:54] S: King Solomon’s decision to elicit the truth through emotion - triggered by an impossible compromise - is only wise through the perspective of the omniscient narrator.
[01:04] LCDR: You haven’t answered the question, Solomon.
[01:07] S: The selfless mother is the best candidate. Without any evidence to prove her maternity, she would guarantee the safety of the child regardless of her own well-being.
[01:15] LCDR: Anything else, Solomon?
[01:18] S: That delivery itself is information.
[1:21] LCDR: Looks like the last format did the trick. Solomon, run scan pattern Alpha Sierra Hector, partial sweep through intuitive databanks. One last thing.
[1:31] U: Yes, sir?
[1:33] LCDR: We’ll work on your humor later.
[Recording Playback - End]
How do you intend to play your Synth?
- Logical and mostly straight-faced (think of him as a straight man for comedic situations). Like his namesake, he’ll stay calm in most situations, and will sometimes attempt to resolve them from somewhat unconventional angles. As a ‘refurbished’ model, subtle processing errors do emerge from time to time. Two examples can be seen in the recordings above.
- Jack of all trades. Strongest with Command, weakest with CM Science. After three years plus on the server, I’ve got a working knowledge of all of these fields.
1. Long-time player: While my name may not be entirely recognizable, I have a long track record for playing on the Colonial Marines server. See forum join date.
2. Fairly knowledgeable: I wrote up a guide to the CO position a few months ago: "Use Honey, Not Vinegar!: An Alternative Approach to Commanding Marines." This guide was later adapted by TheSlapDoctor for use on the Colonial Marines wiki - check out the "leadership guide" on the Commander's page.
3. Roleplay Dork: I'm an extremely roleplay-centric dork who prefers to use their words rather than their actions.
4. Proven Whitelist Record: I’ve been on the Commander white-list, and have managed to not somehow get de-whitelisted in the meantime.
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason?
- No.
Are you currently banned from any other servers?
- No.
- I recognize that I could have my whitelist status revoked at any time.
