Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines (viewtopic.php?f=57&t=14417)?
Yes, I am. I've been reading through them quite a bit. Essentially this is what I have gotten out of them.
Synthetics are a role-play, support orientated role, bound to Marine Law to the letter, and obey Command. They are incapable of using lethal weaponry, as it is forbidden, and combat is a last resort. They are not forbidden from defending themselves, via subduing the threat, as long as it complies with Marine Law. They do not 'feel' emotions, but 'understand' them, able to imitate the actions, and better help itself blend in. Furthermore, emotions will never alter it's decisions. It acts on a purely logical manner, adhering to it's programming.
Synthetics are also extremely resilient, being able to be repaired from a majority of injuries, including decapitation. While preserving it's own life is important, it would never end it's own life needlessly. Once again, logic and programming is it's one role.
Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission on board the Almayer):
Note: Experimenting a bit here, the idea here is that the following is told from the perspective of a log playback, uploaded from a Synthetic unit after the closure of an operation for database and record purposes.

[00:00] The recording starts with a playback of the awakening procedure of the synthetic, a reflection in a nearby mirror showing it's image back to it. Female, black hair, average features, average body shape and height. The definition of an unassuming, average woman. Lines of text begin to appear along it's vision.
Activation Complete
Suggested Action: Greet Crew
[00:03] The synthetic speaks into it's headset, a rather happy tone following suit, "Good Morning USS Almayer crew! I am 'Cerise', I am a Weyland-Yutani brand artificial person, and I will be assisting you today!" The response is mixed, as a number of the crew seems to not be comfortable with having a Synthetic on board. Reactions tending to flow along the lines of "Another Robot" or "Whatever". "I assure you I will be an asset and perform my duties to a better degree than any human." she says cheerfully once again. The response following this time is blatantly negative. "I'm ain't dumber than no dumb fackin' machine!" giving a good idea of the reaction, offence clearly being taken from the human crew.
Reaction - Negative
Revise Greeting for Future
Suggested Action - Report to CIC
[00:56] Briefing had gone well, and the operation was beginning. Rebellion had been confirmed, this had been the 6th Colony to go this way in recent months, and it's become almost standard procedure for the crew of the Almayer to deal with. A lieutenant had greeted her, and began addressing various concerns, unneeded of course, as she was well aware of these concerns long before the crew had even gotten dressed.

ARES V3.2: Danger - Explosion Detected in Reactor Core
Alert - Gas Rupture Detected
Air Alarm - Toxic Atmosphere Detected
Emergency Shutters sealed.
Three Life-signs Terminated.
//Excerpt End//
[01:33] "It was a severe engine malfunction sir. Cause unknown. Two Maintenance Technicians and the Chief Engineer are deceased." were the words that came from Cerise, only minutes after the AI had delivered it's deafening report to the ship, addressed to an understandably shocked Executive Officer. The CIC was bustling with some panicked staff, alarms flaring and power alerts appearing on screens, the Commander himself, a gruff bearded man, was attempting to keep them all calm, issuing orders left and right.
Threat: Critical failure of power systems imminent.
Solution: Perform Repair Sequence 25-A of standard S-52 fusion reactor systems.
Qualified Personnel: DECEASED
Suggested Action: Manual Repairs
[01:34] Cerise had smiled, speaking in a matter of fact tone, "The conditions and lack of life support are too dangerous for human personnel, I will have to perform manual repairs." The Executive Officer nodded, a desperate look in his eyes. Cerise left the CIC, it still in chaos as the Command Staff attempted to gain control of the situation.
[01:43] The lights flickered throughout the ship, and the shutters were pried open to allow the Synthetic access to the toxic environment of the reactor core. Her eyes looked over the surrounding machines. They were heavily damaged, scorched black, and wires frayed. It was clear they were being worked on prior.
Analyzing Damage - Severe
Risk of Damage to Self - Extreme
Suggested Action - Commence Repair Sequence 25-A

Commander Hughes here, reporting from the USS Almayer of the 2nd battalion of the 4th brigade, the Falling Falcons. I understand you'll be wanting a full explanation of the malfunction that occured three hours ago. Chief Engineer Edwards appears to have attempted to bypass some safety protocols, as part of some "revolutionary" method he had thought up. Point is, it didn't work, human error, and that cost him and his technicians their lives and nearly cost us the entire vessel and the lives of everyone else on board as well.
How did we fix it? We didn't. According to me Second in Command, that machine, Cerise did. Unfortunately, it suffered extensive damage, thing is a lifeless husk right now, reeks like damn burnt plastic. Though apparently these things can be repaired from practically anything so we're bringing it back. Sir, while I know I originally had my reservations against needing a machine like this on board, I now would personally request that appropriate repair facilities are ready for when we return.
Oh, and install some more safety features on those damn reactors.
Commander Hughes out.

How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?
I intend to capitalize on the fact that Synthetics are merely replications of human behavior, as part of my Synthetics quirk, I believe I will be going for a "Curious/Cheerful" personality trait. The logic behind this decision for me, is to give the Character an intriguing personality, that subtly betrays it's logical personality. My goal will be to give that underlying feeling as the round progresses, that if you look deep enough, you can feel that something is slightly 'off'. Of course, it's programming helps it to understand emotions, and when to properly express them, but a machine can't perfectly replicate them without 'feeling' them. A scenario where marines will feel that perhaps "She is too happy sounding for just yanking a worm out of a mutilated body." I intend to express this through RP in my interactions, through my behavior and quirks, an interest within Xenomorphs, the cause of the distress beacon, and so on.
Support roles that I will play, I primarily intend on focusing on all of them, to an extent, likely whatever Command would deem me most useful at contributing towards, or an area that is fairly understaffed. My preference would likely be within research and the medical bay, and generally helping in whatever way I can. I would like to be 'versatile', capable of assisting in any areas that suddenly may require assistance, for any number of reasons.
How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO)
Medical: My second most preferred SS13 department, I am completely fluent with medical, creating chems and their uses, performing surgeries, and treating essentially any injury that comes my way.
Maintenance Tecnician/Chief Engineer: Engineering roles were my first foray into SS13, years ago, and it still remains my favored department, along with Medical. Combat engineer is one of my preferred roles, and I commonly go as MT/CE on the ship as well. I am completely aware of how to set up the engines, repair APCs, wire a new room, create fortifications if needed, hack anything, and so on.
Science: I was fairly fluent in old Science back on the Sulaco, though currently with Research's state that is a bit void. Due to the lack of many mechanics, I primarily play Researcher as an RP focused role, while assisting medbay. It is my preferred Medical role over Doctor, as it allows me to fulfill the roles of a Doctor, while still having a focus on RP.
Staff Officer: I don't play SO as much as I used to but I am familiar with the role, and that of being Commander. Communication is key, and I can easily balance the multiple channels all while overwatching a squad. When overwatching, I prefer to be in constant communication with the squad, being talkative, and making sure they know i'm always there if they require anything, also keeping track of those certain marines that love to run away from their SL.
Pilot Officer: Fairly fluent in the role and it's specifics, I understand all the drop-ship equipment, pieces, and their uses. Communicating with Command and the marines as to my lift off times, and CAS.
Cargo/RO: Fluent in all the specifics of communicating with squads, command, handing out attachments, ordering more supplies, dropping said supplies, and the such.
Why should we whitelist you?
I believe there are multiple reasons for myself to be whitelisted. I am active, well-behaved, and have always put an emphasis on Roleplay, and enjoyment of the round over all else. My experience with roleplay dates back years, and I've always had a love for creating and playing out characters as an escape. My style of role-play has always been improvisational, I rarely attempt to plan things out in advance, and prefer to have them emerge organically from the actions taking place. It's fascinating, to attempt to put yourself in the shoes of something completely different from yourself.
I should also mention, that I have a sizable amount of experience on HRP servers, and love using emotes to deliver a bit more flavor for interactions with my character, something that I believe is sorely underused, as simple body language can add a remarkable amount of depth to an interaction.
I have a complete understanding on the role of MP and the specifics of Marine Law. Especially considering my duties as a member of staff on enforcing MP's to follow it. I believe the only time i've been arrested for a Marine Law infraction in-game was as a survivor, who refused to part with some contraband. (A bible which had helped them survive with it's supplies, and as such was sentimental to them.)
As mentioned above, I understand essentially everything there is to know about the many varied support roles. My time into them is significant, as it allows myself to be more engaged with the round. I enjoy them as they require myself to actually think about my actions and strategies, as opposed to the more simple behavior of a standard.
I would like to also mention, that I have always had a deep love for Artificial Intelligence's, and characters reflecting those roles. Interacting with cyborgs and AI's on other servers has always been fascinating to myself, and they have always been one of my primary roles on other servers. Interacting with other human players through the eyes of a logical machine is a fascinating exercise to RP through.
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?
No, I haven't.
Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?
No, I am not.
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
Yes, I do.

Re: TheMaskedMan2 - Synthethic Whitelist Application - Cerise
With good formatting and a decent story, you do have my support on this one.
If I were to nitpick, I would have to say that Cerise isn't exactly a name a synth would have, sounds way too exotic for something W-Y would create.

About the name, I can be incredibly indecisive about names and bounced quite a few around in my head before settling on that one. Ideas were "Ceres", "Sybil", "Elena", and a few others. It didn't exactly come off as that exotic to myself as i've met a couple people with that name before and always thought it was a nice name, though I will admit it's not something you see every day.

I like the detail, but I definitely have to agree. I think the name sounds off for a synth.

Re: TheMaskedMan2 - Synthethic Whitelist Application - Cerise
Hm, alright then. Thanks for the feedback. Honestly the name seems normal for me, though I suppose that's because I've known people with the name for a time. I suppose I can see the point though. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I can change the name if that would be allowed or deemed necessary. I'm quite fond of "Sybil", and "Ava", for alternatives. I'm aware editing is not allowed past the first hour, even for something as simple as a name, so if that's is not allowed then it's fine as well. Just figured i'd say i'm open to changing it.slc97 wrote:I like the detail, but I definitely have to agree. I think the name sounds off for a synth.

+1.
I really quite enjoyed the story. In fact, a lot of folks are writing great stories for Synthetic apps.

Re: TheMaskedMan2 - Synthethic Whitelist Application - Cerise
Masked has always been great at RP and the lore of the universe as a whole. I think the story is very well laid out for a Synth style of application. Other's have pointed out the name, while I don't have a problem with it myself, it took me a few takes to get how you'd say the name if I'm even correct at all. You may want something a little more friendly to the mouth, like Sybil, but I'm perfectly fine with your current name. +1 regardless.
Ban Appeal Users: If I've lifted your perma ban and you're still unable to log onto the server, send me a forum PM regarding it and I'll work to get it fixed in ~24 hours.

Re: TheMaskedMan2 - Synthethic Whitelist Application - Cerise
Yeah, in hindsight I suppose I didn't think that the name would be a bit difficult for some people to understand. Sybil is much more easily readable and i'd be willing to change it to that, but besides the simple name issues. I'm glad you enjoy the application.Emeraldblood wrote:Masked has always been great at RP and the lore of the universe as a whole. Re: TheMaskedMan2 - Synthethic Whitelist Application - Cerise
For anyone that doesn't speak french and is confused about how to pronounce the name:
Suh-rees.
Name is a little outlandish for a synth, but the app is good.

Re: TheMaskedMan2 - Synthethic Whitelist Application - Cerise
I don't know if I want to tie myself to a +1, but I like this application. I quite like Cerise as a name, moreso than Sybil, I've seen you in game, the story is great (I took inspiration from it, thank you), and you seem to be able to handle things like this, but the quirk seems an awful lot like all the other applications'. Good luck, I guess.
Charlton 'Stiffy' Cavalet-I'm probably in the CIC (or CL's office), by choice or RNG, who knows.

Re: TheMaskedMan2 - Synthethic Whitelist Application - Cerise
All in all, +1 from me. I've managed to get a good look at how you RP being lucky enough for you to attach yourself to my character, and I can certainly say you're one of the more high RP folk out there. Your story is well written and of good standard. It wasn't perhaps unique, in that it took a similar angle to most of the applications, but I'd say this is one of the few templates for a synthetic in the Aliens universe so in my humble opinion it is a solid story. Your status as a mod speaks for itself in terms of how trustworthy you are as a player, and your IC personality is interesting enough that I think you will embody the "curious" synthetic trait well.
Issues I have: Irrelevant but worth including: you FF a lot, usually just a funny accident, but if it means you say don't cope with pressure well you might mess up now and then as a synth. We're all human at the end of the day but clarification here would be appreciated.
Like others, not my favourite name. It doesn't roll off my tongue well but I don't see a REAL issue with it. I prefer it to 'Rosu' which was accepted, as you know.
All-in-all, gets a +1 from me. Best of luck. (Note this was poorly written most likely, it's 3:30am and I am tired, will correct grammar and wording errors some other time.)
