No response here either... I guess I'll post the second version of my application here for now - I don't want to be causing some problems by creating a second topic without a go-ahead...

Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer):
Amadeus model synth are modelled to have shoulder-length black hair, usually wavy and flowing behind their head. Adding a bit of a day-old shadow around their face means extra cost, but the bit of imperfection helps adding a bit of humanity into the english-looking face. Average height and muscular tone ensure highest degree of equipment compatibility.

It has been a quiet shift aboard Almayer. While the Maintenance Techs were having a card game in the engine room, they sent off Amadeus to do a trash sweep of the ship. What they would find perhaps a menial job for a Technical Sergeant, Amadeus found it fascinating. After clearing up the decks of clutter, he went to the disposals.
This was one of Amadeus’ favourite rooms on the Almayer. He enjoyed spending time here, carefully sifting through refuse thrown away by the crew. Not many people visited this room, so he was able to keep a small pile of little knick-knacks he has found here. Some polaroid someone made a week ago, an empty pill bottle with hastily scribbled “Vim and Vigor” on it, a fancy cigar, still in its wrapper. The Synth enjoyed the garbage duty, because he knew anything thrown into a bin his programming would deem as “refuse, legal ownership forfeited” and would let him keep it for awhile.
Today, someone decided to throw a perfectly functional attachment - a Underslung Grenade Launcher, still smelling of factory oil. Amadeus put it in his pocket for now. As he returned to operating the conveyor belts, a series of loud thumps could be heard coming from the tubes. Then, a wet splat and a crack of breaking bones, as a Marine landed flat on the conveyor belt. “Hello there!” Amadeus exclaimed after his internals picked a random greetings. “Oh my! What happened?” followed as the synthetic brain processes the stimuli. Moans of pain were the answer. “Don’t worry, I’ll take you to medbay.” Amadeus conveyed as he started dragging the Marine to Medbay.
After analysing the Marine and putting them in an Autodoc, among the grunts and moans of discomfort the Synth announced “You have a few fractured boned and minor bruising through. The Autodoc should fix you just fine. I have notified the MPs about the incident, they will want to talk with you once you have recovered.”.
As he was leaving the Medbay, a Staff Officer’s voice came over the radio: “Amadeus, get suited up, you’re coming with Delta to The Blues’ Place.”, “Sure thing sir!” he replied into his microphone.
Amadeus approached Requisitions with a smile. His internal processing was putting the expression on his face to “appear more friendly”, but he also knew going to new places meant coming across new things - his favourite thing to be doing. “Hello CT! I have brought you something!” Amadeus exclaimed as he took out the Underslung Grenade Launcher from his pocket. “Someone threw this attachment out. It looks functional. Please process it and distribute as needed.”. The young Cargo Tech that was manning the booth gave the Synth the most unimpressed expression he could muster. He lazily picked up the attachment, swiveled on his chair and opened the attachment vendor. He pulled the drawer marked “UGL”, slowly dusting it off from months of not being used. Seeing as the drawer was full of factory sealed boxes of these things, he pushed the drawer back and hucked the Underslung Grenade Launcher behind his shoulder. It bounced twice and landed in the cargo elevator. “Okay, it’s been processed. Do you need anything else?” the human finally said, chewing a piece of gum. “Just a Webbing please!”
The Blues’ Place was a shady station owned by the CLF at the fringe of the USCM space. It had an infamy of being a place of drugs, booze… and blues. The Almayer was sent here to crack down on the drug lords that have made it into their hub of crime. The initial opposition was scarce, it seems the CLF has retreated deeper into the station. The Marines pushed on.
Eventually, a Delta squaddie yelled “Hey guys! Check this place out!” as he entered a snazzy looking lounge. “Look! They have beer here!” was enough to get the squad’s attention and soon the lounge was filled with Deltas getting a bit rowdy. Amadeus might’ve let the Command know about the situation, if he wasn’t preoccupied with the strange decor of this place. Eventually he sat down by a vintage piano and dusted it off from spece drug dust. “Hey Amadeus! Play us Title 3!” a marine exclaimed, to which the synth perked up. He moved his fingers over the keys. *one-time royalty fee has been charged to The Almayer* his inner voice chirped as he began to play the song, entranced by the tactile feel of ivory keys.
He was finally snapped out of it by the Medic asking “Hey Amadeus, I’m running low on Tricord, can you make me some?”. The synth looked puzzled for a second until he noticed that there was indeed a chemical station in the corner. “Sure thing!” he replied with a canned response.
As he got to work, he noticed a strange container was placed over the Chem Master. A more complex piece of craftsmanship than a traditional beaker, larger than one too, yet still able to fit in with the machines by bending in strange ways. It was also decorated in dazzling blue lights fitting for this station. Seeing as it has been recently used, Amadeus cleaned it up a bit and packed it in his satchel before proceeding to grab a standard sized beaker and punching in the chemicals.
“I’ll also need some Tramadol… Man, cut this creepy shit out!” the Medic added before exclaiming his disturbance at the sight of Amadeus turning his head towards her while still operating the Chem Master without looking at it on his right. “I’m sorry, what ‘creepy shit’ are you talking about?” he asked as his body rotated towards the pill making machine on his left. “That! Right there! Cut it out with your creepy owl head and doing things blind”. “Oh, I’m sorry miss Caprica!” Amadeus apologised as he turned towards what he was doing. “Tricord and Tramadol coming right up!”
The party was soon interrupted by a grenade that was thrown into the room. The loud explosion and flying shrapnel ripped through flesh and glass alike. Gunfire followed as the CLF burst into the room. Amadeus quickly snapped into action. He grabbed a nearby machete and charged at the enemies. *Hostile combatants detected, lethal force authorised, not human harm*, his internal processes declared as he began slashing into a CLF, and then another.
“Hold, or we’ll shoot your friend!” one of the enemies exclaimed, “drop your weapon!”. Amadeus looked around the room. Most of the Marines were dead or dying, with the CLF having guns to the head of the medic. Amadeus dropped his blade and said “I need to tend to the wounded. They’ll die otherwise.”. “They are now the prisoners of the CLF. If you want to save your friends, you’ll save our friends first!” the combatant exclaimed.
*Further hostilities would result in human harm. Initiate the Geneva Protocols, tend to the wounded* Amadeus’ internal programming chirped in and he exclaimed “Very well, I will tend to your wounded, but I’ll also need to tend to the USCM staff as per the Martian Convention of 2104”.
They were taken deeper into the station to the makeshift medbay set up by the CLF. Amadeus quickly rolled his sleeves up and began field surgery. Eventually, a voice in his radio crackled “Okay, the comms are finally up! Everyone, report your position!”. “I am currently at the CLF field hospital, treating the wounded”, the Synth responded. “What? You’re supposed to be killing them, not saving them! I order you to grab the nearest sharp instrument and start stabbing them!” the voice screamed, “I’m sorry sir, but attacking the wounded in a field hospital would be considered a war crime. I cannot comply with that order.”.
Eventually, Amadeus was able to tend to the remaining Deltas. As the battle drew on, a very special patient got into the hospital, the kingpin running this joint, known as Mr Blues. “No general anesthetic! I have to be awake!” he yelled as he caught up blood. The medics huddled around him, gave him some Oxy and began to tend to his wounds.
“You’re doing it wrong! He has internal bleeding and shrapnel damage to his internal organs. You need to to open him up!” Amadeus interjected as he moved closer. “Wait, aren’t you the synth from USCM? Why should I trust you not to gut me open and kill me like a killbot?”, mr Blues retorted. “I am bound by my programming to help the wounded and cause no harm to those under my care. As long as you are in this hospital as a patient, I am unable to harm you, or by inaction let you come to harm.”, the synth stated in a serious tone. “Fuck, seems I have no choice. I should’ve paid for hacks that don’t get high on their own anesthetic...”
During the surgery, the two had a bit of a chat in private “So, how many of your hitmen have been sent here?”, the man asked, “I cannot divulge that information”, the synth retorted while pulling a bullet from a wound. “Heh, of course you can’t. Let me guess, they came here to bust my operation and eliminate me, because crime is illegal?”, “While I cannot comment on the nature of this mission, the creation of space drugs, their distribution, selling alcohol without paying taxes and playing copyrighted music without paying the royalties are all against the laws of the United Americas”, Amadeus stated coldly, “Well, I think that’s the last of it!”, he added as he began stitching him up. “A dose of Tricord and you’ll be as good as new in a minute!”. “Good, not help me up.” mr Blues asked.
The Synth helped the druglord up and assisted him getting to the exit. “Welp, I best be off. No point sticking around this joint. Thanks for the stitches!” mr Blues stated as he opened the door. “I am glad you are feeling well!” Amadeus responded with another canned response as they stepped out of the hospital. “Smell ya later!” The man responded before he turned away. Amadeus’ internal voice buzzed in in *target in full health, has left the hospital. Target is wanted for multiple high-degree charges and sedition. Not human harm* before he grabbed the nearest pipe and began beating the man.
“WHY? YOU JUST TREATED ME!” mr Blues yelled as his bones began to break. “You are under arrest for sedition.” the synth said in assertive voice. “BUT I’M YOUR PATIENT!” the man protested. “Correction, you were my patient until you were healed and left the hospital grounds armed. You are now an enemy combatant. Stop resisting.”
Eventually, the Synth dragged the badly beaten mr Blues to the Alamo, where he was greeted with bewildered Alphas. “Delta Squad has been captured by the enemy and is being held at the western wing hospital.” the Synth explained as he dragged the enemy body onto the dropship. “We need to get this guy to the Almayer!”
Onboard the ship, mr Blues was handed over to the doctors for treatment. Then Amadeus remembered something and approached the CMO. “Here professor, I found this strange Blues’ Place Beaker. It looks like a very useful piece of technology for the chemistry lab.”. The Officer, clearly inebriated by some of the recent “findings” from the station replied “Bluespace Beaker? Man, that’s a cool name, I should write that down!” as he took a pen and scribbled the name down.
“Amadeus, report to the CIC for debriefing” a voice over the radio chirped.
How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?
Amadeus’ quirk is his fascination with objects. He likes examining various strange items, sifting through trash people throw away, or be enthralled by how people lived based on the objects they have in their rooms. He would collect interesting objects he can find (but not steal!), and sometimes he would give those objects to people he thinks might have use for them.
Like all Synths, he would be helpful wherever needed. His main focuses would be Maintenance (fixing the reactors, replacing lights, and sifting through disposals for anything useful), Medbay (making chems, treating patients), and Requisitions (especially early round if not enough CTs are present). If requested, he’d gladly go down to help planetside, because that’s where the most interesting things are. He could set up a field hospital there, or help in the usual ways with a FOB.
How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO)
Medical: My bread and butter. Can do most surgeries from memory, I’m pretty efficient at making good chems, I can train people, I can run the medbay as a CMO, and I even make Dr Rock’s Miracle Elixir on a regular basis. I’m still learning how to be a good field medic, but that’s mostly about learning the various chemicals in a Lifesaver Bag at this point...
MT: I’ve got the basics down. I know how to repair the reactors, hack doors and vendors, fix and fit the tank, fix the basic things around the ship and the APCs. I don’t have much experience with building things from scratch, but that shouldn’t be too big of an obstacle.
Cargo: I’m pretty good at cargo. I can easily handle the rush of marines asking for their attachments, make supply crates, handle the requisitions computer and stamping everything properly to get more points back.
MP: I’m a decent cop. Might not be too great at tasers or CQC, but I can keep the marines in check and I’m not using the position to abuse people. Heck - I’m one of those MPs that will check on engineering to make sure the reactors are running (already had two instances where the power on the ship went down while I was standing in the engine room waiting for an MT to fix things), or help baldies get equipped and ready to deploy.
PO: I’ve flown a few missions, both as a transport and CAS. Know how to load and reload the dropships and yeah.
SO: I know the basics - how to operate the squad console and make sure my squad gets what they need from other departments.
Research: My newest favourite role. I often use it to research chemicals that aren’t listed on the wiki (my latest finding being that soy milk and acid make soy sauce!), as well as test the game (“can I combine Ultrazine with Hyperzine and smoke it to create Shockwave?”, “are there any useful grenades that can still be made in this game?”, “what can a human do with predator gear?”).
Why should we whitelist you?
Because I’m one of those players that enjoys playing a shipside support role and will make sure everything is running smoothly so the 100+ Marines can have fun on the planet. I have ran into many situations where some role was understaffed and I wished I could help, but couldn’t because I was playing another role. Being able to play a synthetic would allow me to be that wildcard that is sometimes needed on the ship.
I also tend to report a lot of bugs and suggestions, especially when I try new roles (
https://gitlab.com/thepiachu). Being able to play a Synth would not only give me access to a new role, but also give me a role with the most versatility to test edge-case bugs.
Finally, I do record this game extensively (
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCizC8u ... D0A/videos), both to document various bugs, as well as to give people an insight into how various roles can play out. I think there is one recording of someone observing a synth in a CM round. Having some recordings of an actual play of Synth might be useful to preserve the role legacy, if anything.
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?
No
Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?
No, this is the only server I play on.
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
Of course!
