Cassius - ParadoxSpace's Synthetic Application
Byond ID: ParadoxSpace
Marine Name (so we know who you are; if you play alien mostly, state that here): I mostly alien/pred (Ikthya-de Luar'ke), though in forgotten days of yore I played Vera 'Fatty' Crux
Name/Designation of the Synth Character you’re requesting to use (Follows common naming rules, and requires a first name with no last name): Cassius
Examples of acceptable names: James, Mason, Xavier, Felix, Otto, Allan, Jessica
Examples of unacceptable names: Obama, Jesus, King, Dragon, Godly, Snyper, Circuits
Are you familiar with the Synthetic Programming and Guidelines (http://www.colonial-marines.com/viewtop ... 57&t=14417)? Yessir.
Synthetic Character Story (An ADEQUATE description and story of your Synthetics actions and involvement in a previous mission onboard the Almayer):
"I hope I was of adequate service."
Though the tone was chipper, English flavored as it always was, the synthetic stared straightforward in the seat of the dropship. It was another routine patrol drill, landing on a setup base not too far out of the solar system, pretending one team is mercenaries. The usual.
"Y-yeah, Cassius, you were.. Something." A private first class spoke up, clutching his MK1 pulse rifle almost protectively. The pilot was, of course, one of Weyland-Yutani's synthetics. Previously, one of their latest models. Despite its' bone white skin, black featureless marbles for eyes, and all. It was strong, especially durable, and swift. But it was somewhat unsettling to the crew of marines. Whenever it was sweeping, tending to wounds, or servicing a rifle, it did not blink. It did not breathe.
Upon landing, Cassius was summoned to the bridge of the relatively small corvette known as the Celina. "Cassius, welcome."
"How may I help you, sirs?"
"We've ordered a new model of W-Y synthetic."
With a soft clicking of a remote, a screen gently descended from the ceiling, displaying a human. It, at the least, looked nearly perfectly human. It was an advertisement for a David model.
"Ah. I look forward to working alongside this David chap."
The commander gave his executive officer a concerned look. They had grew to like the synthetic.
"You won't be, er. You'll be deactivated, and I believe shipped to a larger vessel."
It would be years before Cassius would see halogen lighting and shiny uniforms again.
"Holy shit, you found it."
"Yeah, it was in the back. Dusty-ass."
"Well open it, let's see. 'Cassius.'"
The two cargo technicians pulled the steel crate into the light of the rest of the warehouse. The shorter one ran off to get a crowbar, tossing it to the older boy.
"Shit, I wonder if it's a new model?"
"I wonder if it has a dick."
CLANG!
The door on the front collapsed against the steel plating of the Almayer's floor, as did the synthetic inside; thankfully not face-first.
"Shit!"
"Undead!" The shorter Cargo Technician ran off screaming in the direction of the nearest stored machete.
"IT'S NOT UNDEAD, YOU DOLT!" The taller man crouched low, proceeding to touch nearly everywhere on Cassius' body, which was only clothed in an outdated jumpsuit. He clearly had no idea what he was doing. Pushing in right between its' eyes seemed to push something very soft and rubbery, a button.
With a sound of mechanical stress, the bone-white golem awakened from its' slumber. It stood up, rapidly dusting off its' uniform at a superhuman speed, adjusting its' collar, shaking out its' legs as best it could.
"Good day."
How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?
My synth will be an older model of synth, and thus will emote facially extremely sparingly. Despite being an older model, they are essentially programmed with all the candor and personality of a posh WWII British colonel. I will mostly focus on the aid of piloting, and hopefully a lot of forward operating base maintenance (I /will/ be raiding the Nexus kitchen to make food for hungry boots.)
How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO) I'm good enough at MT and SO, though I've played MT very sparingly.
Why should we whitelist you? Another addition to the pack couldn't hurt.
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)? No.
Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why? No, I'm not.
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline? Fully.

Re: Cassius - ParadoxSpace's Synthetic Application
I like that you're basing your synthetic on the older design. I do feel like this application is a bit weak though. The story was a bit short, but it did show how your Cassius would speak. It also showed some of the interactions using the older design could create which is pretty neat. My problem with this application is how you answered some of the other questions.
Under the part about understanding the synthetic guidelines I would have liked to see how you interpreted them, or given your version of what it means.
In the section where you explained your synthetic's playstyle I felt that it was pretty fleshed out, and I'm mostly satisfied with it.
Your support role familiarity seems very lacking from what you've written. I'd just like this to be fleshed out a bit more. It sounds like you haven't been playing much of the marine side from your application, and checking your post history it seems that you've came back from a break. The game has changed in the past couple months are you up to date with new additions. We now have a tank to repair, supply drops are marked in a different way, the orbital beacons have been revamped, I don't know how long you've been gone but medical has recieved many changes somewhat recently.
The reason that you should be whitelisted boils down to "Why not?" Which I find very lazy.
This application also wasn't formatted well. The story was, but everything else blends together a bit.
I'd give this a -1 in it's current state, but I would like to hear your response to this. I can't see how you act ingame because Xenos are fairly faceless, and while playing a round you cannot see who that predator is. -1

And no, I haven't really come back from a break, the suggestion forums were my main squeeze, other things on the forum I simply haven't been too interested in replying to much (I have two other servers to juggle is part of it lmao)
I'm definitely caught up to speed on mechanics.
Otherwise, er. My interpretation of the guidelines isn't too different from how one would regularly play an AI on another server. You serve the crew, prioritizing by their roles, you be affable and memorable like a W-Y product would, and you musn't do anything that would harm people unless you're stopping them from harming another.
Really, I couldn't find a non-cliche answer as to 'Why should we whitelist you?'
When I /do/ marine I tend to like FOB duty, as it allows me the most time for 'team building' shit like fort-building, some squad banter with Charlie (I am a recovering Deltard), and my favorite activity, making burgers in the Nexus.

Re: Cassius - ParadoxSpace's Synthetic Application
While some parts of the app are certainly lacking in content (especially the "Why should we whitelist you?" part; being "an addition to the pack" isn't really valid), and the formatting is quite... bad, the backstory was a pleasant read. Also, the fact that you play an older model is really fun aswell.
However, I don't really understand how the backstory is linked with your quirk. It doesn't show anything about how you'll actually act in-game.
I've never seen you in-game. Could be a timezone thing aswell.
I'll stay neutral for now. I wish you luck with your app!

Re: Cassius - ParadoxSpace's Synthetic Application
I'm neutral to -1 as well, pretty much this whitelist application is very weak, and as Sulaboy already said, the vibes I get from it is "Why shouldn't I be whitelisted?".
I also haven't seen you play a support role in QUITE some time, and synths are support characters.

Re: Cassius - ParadoxSpace's Synthetic Application
I'm going to preface this with the fact that I know you're a good roleplayer, but I also 100% know you could've done way better than this. I've also not seen you in game at all, so I'll be going off of your story alone.
Onto the actual application, the first glaring problem is the lack of formatting. It's all just one huge block of text, you can't distinguish the questions from the answers, etc. Not huge, but something worth noting.
The story itself isn't long, but doable. It shows me how you speak, it shows me what your synth would act like, it's cool.
The rest of the answers are... lazy to say the least. They don't really tell me much. Sure, you could argue you can't write something not clichè as an answer to the 'why should I be whitelisted' question, but you still want to put some effort into every question. They're there for a reason. Saying "Why not?" isn't a great answer. You also don't talk about your medical competence, which is something you'll need to be doing VERY often. Moreover, considering you applied for an old synth, you wouldn't be able to do SO duties in any case.
Overall, neutral leaning to -1. I can't really give this anything more, it'd be a disservice to every other accepted application pretty much.

You're very inactive. The application is very weak. The response helps, but why should you wait until the responses to show off a good application?

Re: Cassius - ParadoxSpace's Synthetic Application
Not really noted activity in support roles and having a reason for this whitelist being accepted in the application would be good.
I'll go with -1 for this app, could be done better in the future with more activity in support roles so people recognize you as capable.
You have a good idea with the quirk and seem to know how to show it in the story, so improvement in the other stated regards would help in accepting this.

Changing from neutral to a firm -1.
You do not play support roles, and quite inactive.

Re: Cassius - ParadoxSpace's Synthetic Application
With more effort and more activity from the player themselves this could be a really good app. I like the focus on an older synth and while the story itself is short and a little wobbly in terms of grammar/structure/whatever else, I kind of like the theme and the quirk.
It has to be a -1, but if you played consistently and gave it a bit more effort it'd be an easy +1 for a second go around.
