The Patrol
► Show Spoiler
The sun beat down upon the broken asphalt mercilessly. Murphys calculated it to be around 103 degrees fahrenheit outside, quite uncomfortable for organics. Indeed, the marines he was accompanying to the front looked exhausted under the pounds of gear and armor. The small amount of shade the ruined vehicles they were squatting behind provided no relief in the slightest. At least it provided cover for the squad. One of the marines had not reached cover in time and was now laying in the doorway of a nearby house, wounded.
The marines of the USS Almayer had been on patrol on this backwater farm world due to suspected sightings of the CLF terrorists. They had been walking down this barren stretch of highway for hours when the squad had come across a group of ruined vehicles in the road and a small collection of ruined buildings at a nearby gas station. One of the PFCs had run over to check the nearest building when a shot rang out from somewhere nearby, striking him in the gut. The patrol had rushed to nearby cover and was currently trying to figure out where the shot had come from.
Murphy squinted his eyes against the harsh sunlight as he peered carefully around the wall. Just as he acclimated to the glare a shadowy figure appeared in the doorway briefly, dragging the marine inside. The marines dared not shoot least they hit the wounded PFC.
“Can anyone go in and clear that building?” the sergeant asked his squad? He could see the reluctance on his mens face. For many this was their first deployment away from a base, and this had been a simple patrol mission. Rushing across an open field into an unsecured house with a gunman inside was probably a terrifying prospect for them.
“I’ll do it sir” Murphy replied evenly. “You sure Murphy? You can't fire any guns. What are you gonna do about the gunman?” the sergeant asked. “Give me your knife” Murphy stated, gesturing to the knife slid into the man's boots. The Sergeant passed it to murphy wordlessly.
Murphy made sure to double check his medical bag was properly packed with tramadol and bicardine, before leaning close to the edge of the wall in a running pose. He spared a brief moment to calculate the distance, determining he would be out in the open for about ten seconds. After one last pause, he burst out from behind the wall and began to sprint towards the building.
Murphy had made it about halfway before he felt the bullet smash into lower torso. “Mar 40, thats gonna be a chore to repair” he noted as white lubricating fluid ran down his jumpsuit. The second shot missed him narrowly as he plunged up the steps into the ruined structure.
His HUD was showing that the wounded marine had been dragged into the backroom. He sprinted forward and smashed through the rotten door into the dimly lit back room of the gas station. As he cleared the ruined door, he noticed three figures in the room. One was laying on the floor sprawled out. The other two were two figures wearing hoodies and clutching guns.
Murphy took in the two CLF soldiers standing over the wounded marine. It appeared they had been in the process of stripping the marine of his gear and they had been about to finish him off when he had burst in. His synthetic brain quickly processed the visual data and formed a plan of action that would eliminate the threat to the marine and himself. The taller of the two CLF was clutching a double barreled shotgun, most likely loaded with buckshot. The shorter of the two had the Mar 40 rifle that had injured him just seconds before. He would have to take down the shotgun wielder first, and fast.
Murphy lunged forward and grabbed the barrel of the shotgun, pulling himself into close range of the startled CLF soldier. A quick knee shattering kick drove the clf soldier to the ground, allowing for a precision neck stab to dispatch the CLF quickly. Even as the soldier slumped to the ground, Murphy has crossed the room to engage the other gunman. Knocking the barrel of the rifle to the side, Murphy thrust the knife forward with such force it pierced the soldiers flak jacket, with a quick rip upwards disemboweling the unfortunate soldier.
Murphy briefly noted that the smaller of the two clf soldiers was most likely an adolescent, which explained the hesitation from him when he burst into the room. He surveyed the room again briefly before turning to stabilize the wounded marine. The wound was large, but fortunately the bullet had not lodged in the marine and passed through clean. He pulled out an advanced trauma kit and began to clean and seal the hole. He heard the marine groan and quickly applied an oxycodone autoinjector to the wounded marine before feeding him a bicardine pill.
“Hang in there soldier” Murphy stated, his personality quirk activating “We’ll get you out of here. Stay with me marine, cant let the CLF win eh?” he said as he pulled the marine to his feet. “Holy shit murphy, you took those poor bastards apart” the marine hissed out in pain as he leaned on the synth. “There's nothing I love more then making some sorry son of a bitch die for his country” Murphy replied as the two of them exited the building and back into the light.
How do you intend to play your Synth (as in, describe HOW you will act/play your Synth and what support roles you’ll mainly focus on, what is your synthetics quirk)?:
As a synth, I would like to be deployed to areas that need immediate help. I want to be deployed in the field stabilizing marines or building/repairing the FOB. If something needs to be fixed on the ship immediately, like power, I can do that too. I would prefer to be deployed to crisis situations, but will do whatever command asks of me.
As for Murphy’s quirk, he is normally taciturn, switching to a stereotypical gung ho marine attitude when unit morale is low or others need encouragement. Think along the lines of a Mr. Gutsy unit. Murphy was programmed to somewhat act like the marines he serves besides, as other synth models were viewed as “creepy” for their smooth, emotionless personalities.
How familiar are you with support roles? (ie; Medical, MT, Science, SO)
► Show Spoiler
Medical:I am very good at medic and can treat and stabilize marines very quickly. I am also familair with surgical procedures both on the ship and in field hospitals. I am confident that I can help medbay if they need help.
Engineering:I am familiar with all aspects of engineering. Deconstructing walls, repairing apcs, fixing the engine etc. I am also experienced in setting up FOB’s and defensive positions, so I should be able to help with that as well.
Science:I am familiar with the chem list and should be able to help the Researcher/CMO make any chems required.
Req:I am very familiar with Req and would have no issue manning the line or sending down supplies to the marines.
Command:I am already a whitelisted commander and understand the ins and outs of all CIC roles. I would be able to fill in at any SO position, fly a dropship, or do any other command related task that I am assigned.
Why should we whitelist you?:
One of the main issues I see on some rounds of CM is a lack of skilled personnel to address issues. Many times I have seen FOBS that are incomplete because the engineers have gone missing, or wounded marines lying around the front lines cause there's only one or two medics. I want to be there to address these issues and lessen the burden on the oftentimes overwhelmed staff of the Almayer.
As for roleplaying, I want to explore the idea of a machine being programmed to think and act like the humans around, despite the fact that it does not live. I think it is a unique idea for a synthetic that would not violate any programming rules and could enrich rounds by being different from other synthetic personalities.
Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason (we will check, and lies may result in immediate denial)?
I have not been banned from CM in the past month
Are you currently banned from any other servers and if so, why?
I am not banned from any other server.
Do you understand that any player - donor or otherwise - can have their whitelist status revoked should they break our rules or the Synthetic Programming Guideline?
I fully understand and accept that ingame actions have out of game consequences if rules are broken.
Final Note:
I would like to state that even though Murphy acts somewhat like a marine, he is not a combat synth and will obey all synthetic programming regarding combat, as all synthetic units do.
