Ban Appeal

Post by Ashiq » 28 May 2018, 03:10

Your Byond ID: Volcorb

Character Name: N/A

Type Of Ban (Job-ban (include the job), Timed Ban, Permaban): Permaban

Admin who banned you (if known): V30APR16

Total Ban Duration: Forever

Remaining Duration: Forever

What other servers do you play on? None currently as of now but I've been playing SS13 since 2015

Are you now or have you been banned on any servers? Which ones? As far as I know I am not currently banned on any existing servers.

Reason for ban (If you have a Permaban, it should be the EXACT MESSAGE YOU GET WHEN YOU LOGIN with the Error code that looks like this: X##XXX##. If you do not provide this EXACTLY you can't be unbanned): Greifer

Link to previous appeals for the same ban (if applicable):

Your appeal, including evidence (screenshots, etc): As far as I know this ban was doing two years ago and I currently forgot the reasoning as to why. I never appealed it because as far as I know I was on a timed ban for something like 6 months and then it got moved to permanent sometime between now and then, I've changed as a persona and I feel that I should be let back into the community seeing as it was something done over two years ago and I've changed my attitude a lot since then.

Reason: At the same time as another guy started griefing "Scivir" or "Karls von creed", Volcorb also opened fire on the people in briefing.
It's worth noting that he hasn't played in at least the last four months except for now, and the first thing he does is grief.

Will you do it again if we unban you? I have doubts that you won't

I solemnly swear that I will not commit another ban worthy action. I deeply apologize for my behavior and I hope you can trust me with being allowed back onto the server.

It's been quite a while since this all happened, and I don't remember it clearly. Fortunately, I have the logs to help me piece things together.

It seems like you and several other players joined on the same round and caused a massive firefight in briefing by just shooting at everyone indiscriminately. Another player tipped us off that you and those other players were in the Lifeweb discord, planning "raids" against SS13 servers. You logged off before I could talk to you about it, and I wasn't able to ban you at the time, so it was just a permaban request (which was soon approved). Does this scenario with the server raiding ring any bells?
TLDR: Go back and read it. I spent time writing that, ya know.

First off yes this does ring some bells but I would like to preference the fact that I actually shot at the people who started shooting or at least attempted to. It came to a surprise to me when I got perma banned for shooting the people who started it and as far as I know I was banned on the spot no questions asked, if I was allowed to explain myself I feel like it would've been cleared up.

I do have a response to what you said, and I'd be happy to explain what happened (based on the logs), which should hopefully help explain why you got the permaban in the first place so we can decide whether it will be lifted. Before that, I'd like you to address the most important piece of the issue: Were you a part of the Lifeweb discord "raiding party"?

Admitting that you were won't necessarily mean that your appeal is denied, so please answer honestly.

Sorry for the long wait. But no I was not in a "raiding party", I had no intent to grief the server that round I seemingly got mixed up with the people who were.

Here are the relevant logs, the Ckeys (except for yours) have been removed. The following events took place in briefing. Karl was apparently the Commander, and Ruta was perhaps a squad marine.
► Show Spoiler
► Show Spoiler

Karl Von Creed starts opening fire at [00:07:21], causing lots of chaos. Ruta Bega joins in at [00:07:25], and you join in at [00:07:26]. So far, no one besides you three had shot a person.
I also noticed an interesting pattern. When one of the two main griefers shot a person, you shot them as well. This happened to:
  1. Emerson Pycroft at [00:07:34]
  2. and Henry Omega (who appears to be an MP) at [00:08:01]
It's true that you did shoot one of the perpetrators (Ruta Bega), but you only shot them once, and that was 16 seconds after you shot two innocent people. As for how you were actually banned, I was AFK during the briefing griefing and didn't notice your involvement until much later, after sorting everything out. By that time, you had already played as a xeno a bit and then logged off, and I was unable to ban you. You were actually banned a month later, in May.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to converse with you at the time, but now's your chance. Considering you apparently hadn't played for 4 months beforehand, your shooting patterns followed those of the griefers, and that you shot at an MP who had just managed to taser one of those griefers- You may have your work cut out for you trying to clear this up.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to mention that a player had ahelped that various people, including you and Ruta Bega, were in Lifeweb's Discord together. He mentioned Ruta Bega by their CKey, not their name. He said you were "lifeweb rejects who are organizing raids in the official lifeweb Discord." That info wasn't included in the permaban request, so I didn't think to mention it here.
TLDR: Go back and read it. I spent time writing that, ya know.

Theres nothing much to explain since you've given the facts here, my memory isn't exactly as conclusive as logs from a computer. What I thought is that I just stood by firing at whoever shot but evidently enough that isn't the case. Not much I can add besides that.

All I can ask is that you can find it in yourself to forgive me, I truly am sorry and I just wish to play on the server.

Despite the discrepancies between the evidence and your memory (which might be viewed as an attempt to hide the truth), personally I believe that it would be fine to give you another shot. It's important to understand that if this is approved, you'll be on a probationary period where any rulebreaking will be dealt with more harshly, and may just put you straight back into perma.

Also bear in mind that permaban appeals are a much lower priority. Since Apophis (who handles the permaban appeals) retired, it may take even longer. Don't be surprised if there's no response, even after a week.

I'm completely fine with a probation period it seems most reasonable, also I am fine with waiting for a month or something it doesn't really effect me that much.

Can you go into ord his comment about the lifeweb discord?
It was not mentioned on your ban request but I still want to know if you say it is true or not. (Being honest helps.)

While server raiding is a shitty thing to do, it has been 2 years since the ban was applied and outside of that it's his second noted offence. I fully support giving him a second chance and probation.

You'll be allowed to return under a two-month probation. Any serious grief will net you another perma and probation will be failed. This will be lifted soon.

Resolved - Perma lifted under a two-month probation period for grief. Probation will end August 27th.
Ban Appeal Users: If I've lifted your perma ban and you're still unable to log onto the server, send me a forum PM regarding it and I'll work to get it fixed in ~24 hours.

Emerald Blood: CM's mommy and the only head staff who does anything. Even though I hate you all sometimes, I still love you.
