New Forum Release

With this post, the new forum is officially going to go live for the entire community.

Staff have had early access to the forums in order to hopefully iron out glaring issues with things like permissions and such, and to help move over a few essential posts. If there are any obvious issues remaining in the forum with permissions, or things that you should be able to do but can't, shoot me a forum PM and I'll look into it.

Known Issues:

• The e-mail field in the registration page does not line up properly. I have not figured out how to correct this yet.

Notable Changes:

• Applications, ban appeals, reports, and the like are posted with a Form system. Instead of formatting the post yourself, you will be presented with a form that will have inputs for each area that requires filling in. Once completed, they will post to the correct area with automatically generated titles and formatting. In the case of Mentor Applications, they will directly go to the PM inbox of the Mentor Manager.
• Posting will now use a WYSIWYG editor. This allows posts to be copy-pasted directly from Word, or other posts without necessarily needing BBCode. The post will be formatted in the reply area exactly as it will appear on being posted. This can be turned off at-will if you like old school BBCode more.
• Size tags use more standard numbers, from 1-7, rather than numbers in the hundreds.
• Administering vBulletin forums is MUCH easier than PHPBB.

Important Notes for Getting Started

• You will need to register a new account. Most content is not being ported over, nor are accounts.
• All forum rules will remain the same there as they are here.
• If you have any special groups on the forums, go to the Forms page via the link at the top, and make an Administrative Request letting us know what you need. We will check and make sure you actually need that group. We may ask for more details to verify at first.
• Do not take names of other users. Your forum name will be forcibly changed, and you could receive a forum ban if you steal someone else's name for malicious intent. If you want to change your name to something else, that is fine. However, do not take someone else's.

Common Questions/Concerns

• Q: Did this come out of CM's budget? This is a $250 forum...
  A: No, I paid for it out of my own pocket.
• Q: What is the point of this?
  A: Administering PHPBB feels horrible. vBulletin is extremely easy to navigate, while being powerful.
• Q: Why aren't all the posts, threads, and accounts being ported over to the new forums?
  A: There are no free/simple solutions for doing this that I've found. What I have found all cost far more than its worth.
• Q: What about all the information that's still on this forum?
  A: The plan is to archive this forum, leaving the entire thing read-only for future reference.
• Q: What should I do if I have a problem on the new forum that requires permissions/etc to be changed?
  A: Send me a forum PM on the new forum, if the problem you're having is to do with registration, forum PMing me on this forum is fine, too. I will keep an eye on it periodically.
• Q: Is this forum already completely closed?
  A: This forum will be slowly closed as people migrate over and get used to the new one. Less important sections will be closed first, and more important ones will be closed as we are able.
