Make Incendiaries Useful As Weapons/Area Denial

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):

Per subject.


Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

Makes people respect incendiaries.

Let's incendiaries actually act as counters to the Crusher caste rather than AP rockets being their only effective answer.

Stops incendiaries from being a joke that are largely good only for dealing with weeds due to their unpredictable, randomly delayed damage.


Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

Incendiaries (Flamethrower, Incendiary Grenades, etc) now ignite and deal burn damage to every mob in the tiles they ignite (applying 1 burn stack).

Moving into an ignited tile should always immediately deal burn damage (though you won't take burn damage from the next time/tick interval, or entering another ignited tile before the next tick).

A mob taking 2 consecutive ticks of damage from an ignited tile will ignite, gaining 1 burn stack. Any mob coated with a flammable substance (ethanol, oil, etc) will immediately ignite and may gain multiple burn stacks.

Any mob that would ignite while already ignited (has 1 or more burn stacks) gains +1 burn stack, and the duration of the ignition is reset. Each pass of a fire extinguisher or resist action only eliminates 1 burn stack. Further, whenever ignition would expire, it instead reduces the number of burn stacks by 1, and ignition duration then resets (at 0 burn stacks burning ends).

Sticky Resin is destroyed by one pass of flame.

Flames and ignited mobs generate light.

While burning, Hunters can't hide, and Predators can't stealth.

Also for the love of god have them use fuel instead of phoron.

+Support I have no clue why sticky resin even survives being drenched in flames, but is immediately destroyed in one knife swipe after it... And obviously lighting xenos and marines on fire, if they can be on fire for incendiary rounds, they should be for regular flamethrowers.

I agree with that, flamer is very good to clear egg camps, but it doesn't destroy sticky resins, and isn't that good at dealing damage. Spam it at 50Kpa would be very OP, since you'll ignite if you hit twice.

+1, but increase the usability and effects of fire extinguishers as well should a griefer/baldie happen upon a lit flamer and decides to start "cooking".

+1. Flamethrowers as they are are only able to hurt xenos if they literally stand still in front of you while you spam it at them. It would be nice to have an actual flamethrower instead of a magical fire-spawner that doesn't ignite anything.

Actual flamethrower were a thing but sadly the TOTALLY broke atoms and killed many more marines the xenos, as most of the time when the fire was gone the heat and pressure still remained and killed them

They're talking about upping the damage, not adding a REAL SS13 flamethrower. That'd kill everyone planetside when fired, more than likely.

It's not about just upping the damage; the changes in the OP are pretty substantial, but yeah, this won't be fucking with atmos.

I'll +1 despite the implied nerf to xenos.
Yes it'll fuck with xenos a lot, but marines deserve that and the mechanic should be accounted in a new balance tweak rather than accounted for the current one.
Flamers are good, but needs to be better and I just want to see the world burn kay thx bye.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

+1 I always thought it was weird you wouldn't take damage if you move quick through a burning tile. And the slowest xenos can even do this.

Can confirm, I watched Addyson throw an inced grenade down a ladder and a carrier danced through the flames without a slight hint of damage. +1 For the fact that flames are bugged beyond hell and the fact that the only way to kill Crushers is with gunfire at this point.
