Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Due to the r-glass gunshields turning out to be a bug that was never intended to be a feature being removed/fixed or whatever, marines are really lacking in variety of defenses, not to mention how useless most of them are at protecting our valuable Sentry Guns that, due to recent marine nerfs are a son of a bitch to move around, resulting in them being left behind a flimsy row of barricades to be acided to death whenever we get forced back. Adding actual buildable gunshields for sentry guns will add to this variety a tad while no longer being an 'exploit' of gameplay.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Variety in marine defences and more reliable FOB's, which is now more important than ever considering recent shuttle changes for xeno.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Using 10 plasteel to create and working on a basis that the r-glass used where you could shoot through them but anything trying to get to you had to get through the glass first, these gunshields will only be buildable on a '1 per tile' basis, are no stronger than plasteel barricades and allow bullets to pass through no matter what distance you are from the shield, as long as you are shooting in the direction it's facing. Due to the one per tile rule you cannot abuse this to defend sentry guns from multiple flanks or spam them in FOB's due to the plasteel cost, which may be upped at the dev's discretion.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Possibly adapt metal barricade code?

Re: Sentry Gunshields
+1 to the general concept.
The way I'd do this is for the cost of 5 plasteel, you can make a gunshield; using the gunshield on a depowered sentry then wrenching the sentry secures it. Gunshield works like a plasteel barricade orientated towards the sentry's facing direction, providing cover and protection against any projectiles/melee attacks from that direction.
Also damn did the fun police descend on that bug thread fast.

Re: Sentry Gunshields
+1 Maybe reduce the damage a little though, to balance out the extra HP. Sentries are already worth 1-2 marines during defense, we don't really need to turn that into 3.

Re: Sentry Gunshields
We absolutely need it to be 3, considering a vast majority of marines will be dead or incompetent by the time the sentries are actually being put to use. And the ease with which you can destroy sentries in a sustained attack without its own kind of protection is rather annoying considering the cost of sentry gun replacements.

Re: Sentry Gunshields
-1. Sentries are meant to be mobile and be easy to move around, this would IRL decrease its rotation speed significantly if put on a 360 rotation. It also would take longer to turn itself in the event a hostile is behind it, increasing time per shot. Also if melee is the only thing that can destroy it whats the point?
