Telescopic batons
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Add telescopic batons to various departments and/or roles.
Read desc. for more info.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
This would promote non-lethal combat.
This would be a great addition to realism and/or gameplay.
Re-implement a relatively good feature with potential.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Basically, I suggest telescopic batons be added to all heads (CO (Or not, Chain of command item already in possession), XO, CE, RO, CMO, CLs, not BOs) either in lockers or on themselves.
I also promote the idea of entirely swapping pred stunbatons for telescopic batons so that they can spar or capture using those (NOTE: Capture as in, take person for duel or w/e, not slaving, telescopic would lower the dmg done while taking people away and require more skills)
Finally, I'd simply give telescopic batons a much lower chance to hit preds and/or shielded characters.
Those are all optional, except the usage of telescopic batons being made more broad somewhere across the maps or gameplay.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
[N/A]

Aren't telescopic batons extremely lethal?

Re: Telescopic batons
-1 No. Telescopic batons cause bone fracture when used, allowing this to just any Command staff is asking for trouble. The last thing anyone needs on this game is a baldie BO or XO with little regard for the rules or no idea what they'd get themselves into isn't a good idea, at all. Marines would also loot SSD officers for them and have a lethal stunbaton in their hands unrestricted.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Doesn't the CO already have one? I thought they had one at least.

They do, they're just not used because you're held accountable for your actions and it'd give someone a justification to open fire. Thank god they added that whitelistHelgraf wrote:Doesn't the CO already have one? I thought they had one at least.

Re: Telescopic batons
The whitelist hasn't prove anything as we have CO's who ruin more marine lives by shit orders than a baldie going on a rampage with a telebaton that can be disarmed.
And stun batons are just as dangerous as telebatons except you have to recharge a stun baton; thats the only difference.

Re: Telescopic batons
I don't think stun batons break bones in 1-2 hits or kill people in like 1 hit to the head.Swagile wrote:The whitelist hasn't prove anything as we have CO's who ruin more marine lives by shit orders than a baldie going on a rampage with a telebaton that can be disarmed.

Re: Telescopic batons
They put you in pain crit last I checked, and anyone with access to a telescopic baton using harm intent has access to a gun locker with semi-automatic shotguns that blow your face off.Snypehunter007 wrote:I don't think stun batons break bones in 1-2 hits or kill people in like 1 hit to the head.
Your expected to not grief if your a head role and if people grief the admins are there to stop them; giving them telescopic baton won't really change things in the long run considering all the other things said roles can do (aka CMO can quick clot you twice and your dead, CE can blow the SM, XO / CO can order the deaths of the marines with bad orders, the list goes on).
Responsible players will use the baton well, shitty players won't and will get banned. Simple.

Re: Telescopic batons
Literally everything he said, you can LITERALLY get a gun that can kill people more easily, why would they use a Telescopic baton if they can use the arsenal of firearms? This would be better then getting shot the fuck up instead of just smacking people with a baton.Swagile wrote:They put you in pain crit last I checked, and anyone with access to a telescopic baton using harm intent has access to a gun locker with semi-automatic shotguns that blow your face off.

Re: Telescopic batons
Guns run on ammo and no one thinks about using firearms on a guy with a knife, they disarm him. If he has a gun and open fires then they get the green light to open fire. What makes the telescopic batons more dangerous is that anyone can retrieve them and they're able to break bones in one swipe and are easily concealable. You don't achieve the same with a pistol or magnum, which require the entire magazine to be empty or have limited capacity. They break bones in ONE SWIPE , that's the equivalent to getting shoot with a slug at point blank, made worse by the fact another swipe would outright kill you.shyshadow wrote:Literally everything he said, you can LITERALLY get a gun that can kill people more easily, why would they use a Telescopic baton if they can use the arsenal of firearms? Re: Telescopic batons
So if a Head of Staff uses it improperly then they weren't head material and they'll get command banned.Crab_Spider wrote:Guns run on ammo and no one thinks about using firearms on a guy with a knife, they disarm him. Re: Telescopic batons
Questions:
How often have you seen a Commander/Chief of Staff/Chief Medical Officer straight up baton a subordinate (heck, even in the Aliens universe) outside of SS13?
To what end does adding "non-lethal" arms to staff that are not expected to be engaged in any sort of combat whatsoever add to the server?
What role do you feel non-lethal weapons play on a server that is almost strictly lethal combat (sans Military Police)?

Re: Telescopic batons
Didn't know tele-baton was this darn broken in CM code. Welp.
Either way, still suggesting this due to a conversation and the fact some departments would need it once in a while; Or their existence should be made more often.

Re: Telescopic batons
What do they really need it for, though? If the answer is "dealing with shitters", then that's the MPs job. (If the MP is a shitter, ahelp I guess)
IMO the reason Heads of Staff get a telebaton in SS13 isn't so they can deal with Baldie McGreytide, it's because they are valid (and frequent) antag targets. Unlike on most other servers, the CMO here shouldn't really be concerned with a changeling doctor or a traitor that wants to cut his head off and space it. Granted, a telebaton is only going to do so much, but along with other head-specific arsenal it's something to help make them a more difficult target than say, the Librarian.
Maybe I'm missing the rounds where the CM heads get involved in lots of CQC, but from what I've read so far even if the telebaton was a stun only item it seems more like an agent of unnecessary escalation than a necessity.
