SL squad info

Post by Jeser » 01 Apr 2017, 03:18

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Add to Status tab list of your squadmates with classes.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Huge help for SLs to coordinate squad. Which makes SLs more effective and useful.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Right now in sense of actually commanding squads, SLs often find out, that they are bit useless. Usually, out of 10 people, only 4-6 actually follow SLs orders, most likely because SL remember their names and can give more direct orders. Giving the SLs list of of his marines in status will make SL able to give such orders: "Hernandez and Baker, cover west side!", "Mendis and Sanders, start woking on defenses!", "ALYCIA, I NEED YOUR FUCKING SADAR HERE RIGHT NOW!" When you order something to exact marine using his name, chances that he will follow that order rise up to 75%.

If you think, that it's not needed, try making squad of 8-10 people listen to you, then come back and tell us your opinion on this matter.

P.S. Adding this to all marines would be even better, because ICy squadmates should know names of each other, but SLs must have this for sure.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): some change of squad monitor code and adding it to SL marine status bar, it seems.

+1, QoL improving concept. Although, I feel this is more fit by implementing it as an option for Bridge.

Bridge has consoles, they can check squads at any time, but SL, who ACTUALLY command troops on the ground, usually knows only 2-3 names out of ~8-10 marines.

I don't really see this helping SLs much in coordinating the squad. If some marine doesn't follow or pay attention SL's radio order now, I don't see how calling him/her by name over radio will help. Plus, giving individual orders to each marine of an 8-10 squad is pretty much micromanaging and a waste of the SL's time.
Also, Giving an order to a specific marine is risky, if the marine misses the order it will never get done as every other marine assumes the guy did it. Giving more general orders like "I need two marines covering west" and using your marines' rank seems much more efficient.

You say:

But in reality the marines follow the SL's orders because they pay attention. I have yet to be called by my name even once by an SL and I'm always staying really close to them at all time.

Sure, it wouldn't hurt to add this info to the status panel, but I don't see this really helping with anything.
