Boiler smoke screen

Post by Skycave1 » 31 May 2017, 19:10

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): I've been thinking about this for some time, but lets give the boiler a defensive smokescreen. It would give the undefended Boilers a chance to run from marines, or ward them off, depending on what type of gas they use. Most likely nonlethal, but an option for lethal would make sense, just costing a bit more. It makes sense for the Boiler to have a feature if it can launch globs of acid, and I know the boiler has an acid spray, but once marines see it, they'll know and will try and chase regardless. But a smoke/gass screeen would be harder to deal with, and add some sort of new play style needed to deal with them.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It would give Boilers a chance to escape pursuing marines.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):It would bring new tactics to the field, and add a more effective form of escape to the boilers.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): I wouldn't know this one.

Wow something which actually buffs the aliens what I sort of agree with, yeah it makes sense and I'll give it my +1 for the smelly boilers to have a chance on surviving being seen by a filthy marine such as myself.

I am all for this actually, but in exchange perhaps lower boiler HP and Speed a bit more to compensate. This could have a lot of defensive purposes and combat potential.

EDIT: I was also thinking. The boiler can't do it's acid spray after the smokescreen. So it can't kill an unknown marine. The idea is to help it escape, not kill.

I'm guessing the smoke would spawn on the boiler?

+1 if the boilers can't acid spray after doing it.

Yes, it should emit clouds out of the boiler itself in a small radius. Enough to block it out of sight and give it a chance to run.

Sounds like a sniper counter... hell fucking no unless there's a way to circumvent this shit
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

As long as the boiler has lowered health and speed. This addition to the Boiler is ok in my books.

But if it's given WITH it's atrociusly high "enough" health bar and faster than a Prae speed. I think it would be overpowering.

Basically, upside with a downside.

Boilers are ridiculously easy to kill as a T3 (unless they got a health increase)

It is true that their easy to kill, but I once singlehandedly as a SL loaded a mag or two into the boiler before it died.. Making me question why they have a "high" health pool.

Probably RNG and guarding pheromones. Though that is weird, I'm guessing your gun had accuracy barrels attached to it and you were a bit far away from it. But again, that's rather weird.

Let me clarify a bit, I used a rifle with quickfire. It was a lone boiler with no backup whatsoever. No weeds. I was a mere few tiles a way from it. The boiler is I think, a mature one.

But it still took a fair few eventhough I've hit the majority of my shots.

Were there OTHER xenos in the area?

As far as I know, when I killed the boiler after, no xeno's came at all. So to answer your question. There was no xeno's present.

Could you explain a situation, where it is used? I can only imagine a boiler emitting the smoke and going back to a well defended cover. Else marines can just rush through the smoke and still kill it. If there are other xenos or a fortress nearby then boiler doesn't really need this smoke imo. Especially not if in return it gets more fragile.

And there are also misuses, like emitting the smoke preemptively to negate the light or disrupt snipers as Crab_Spider said or using the smoke instead of cloud when there isn't a long enough corridor to cover a crusher.

+1 if toggled with acid spray and cause AT BEST very minor burn damage (10~?) to mobs sticking inside / being caught.
PS: Give it a 1-second cast time and make the boiler shake around with a test saying something like "The boiler tenses up, its body oiling up something gazy!" Or w/e
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

I don't think it should have a lethal option, but I'm in favour of having a sort've escape option for the boiler.
