Rework the recon sniper

Post by Crab_Spider » 11 Jun 2017, 19:55

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Rework the Recon Sniper to be something that stands out to its marksman cousin.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Somethhing that won't cripple our Marines, but won't be too detrimental for the snipers. FF as a result would be less punishing but still get the job done. This change would allow snipers to get some cohesion in their jobs

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): In short, change the Recon rifle to take only arrow bolts, 3 types:

1) Tracker bolts- These do barely any sufficient damage at all, but light targets up by a decent amount, making them blink for 30 seconds before burning out. For xenos, who don't have such a verb that allows removal in their master controller, their acid blood would reduce this time by a considerable amount, depending on caste type.

2) Regular Bolts - Deal 23 brute damage (takes quite A LOT to kill a xeno but regardless, a lot). These are the strongest there are and rather than trying to be superior to the other classes, these bolts have a bit of a niche to fill— they slow targets down until removed. Making it easier for snipers to pick off the lightning bruisers or act as support for the Marines making xenos easier to chase off or slow down Crushers and Ravagers.

3) Incedinary Bolts- Because why not?

The ammo comes in magazines, and the ammo rig is capable of holding items that are tiny-normal (sort of like Military Police rigs)

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding and spriting.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. I'm not sure if this is allowed as a "new/reworked weapon suggestion", but is this even lore accurate. Do the Marines have some sort of crossbow sniper in their roster ?

No but can we just bullshit our way into saying they do?

I highly doubt so. Marine equipment is one place where we are extremely strict on lore

I always thought the recon sniper should be like a dmr (designated marksman rifle) The marksman pack would contain the usual, the recon would have a 'stripped down' version, maybe a lighter caliber? It would be able to fire much more quickly or even burst fire perhaps.
My first (and likely only medal)

I know, but the markman rifle has that purpose albeit I don't like that gun for the reason of being too versatile as a spec weapon. A crossbow sniper was something that worked pretty decently in an IRL application, and as a gameplay application due since a larger (than bullet) object would cause you to move slower than a gunshot wound and I pretty much thought a spec gun that made the job of other loadouts easier was a pretty good idea.

*cough* anyway, I thought the same thing too. It was a bit surprising the Marksman Rifle had a faster RoF, and I only took it since marksman rifles in many other games were long cooldown but high damage+accuracy.
