It's not about being able to make the autolathe in the first place, it's about having access to a convenient source of wire

+1 Bumping, Seems like just an oversight from legacy code instead of balance that the autolathe doesnt produce cable coils. I think cable coils are recycled at 1500 metal and 1500 glass, so about that rate i think to make a new one.

+1. You theoretically have an infinite source of the other tools (given that req is functioning and there's an autolathe available), so cable coil should have the same treatment.
