Nested marine speak

Post by Casany » 25 Jul 2016, 22:20

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): you know what REALLY breaks my immurson? When a marine gets capped then totally calmly explains where he is and whatnot. This will change that

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): more immursons for my immursons

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): add a check which checks for a nest when you buckle, and if true it makes you speech stuttered and replaces random spaces with "..." , and removes random words

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): coding for days

Technically this could easily be roleplayed. I'm not entirely opposed to this, but I'd probably rather encourage roleplay than imposing speech impediment.

I never see anyone role play this. The second you wake up from being captured it's always " guys, come help me. I'm in a nest that these aliens formed! It's in (location of hive)" and that's why I suggested this. They can still explain where the nest is but it makes them sound in trouble

your immersion does not need adjustment , this is a pointless change that would just add needless lag and issues to the already underpowered marines , it wouldn't make a difference either as the marines would just shout it 50 times till they got the message through. Plus this makes no sense lore wise.

It is cannon though. Dallas, even when not impregnated, had stuttered and hurt speech in alien when Ripley found him nested. And in Aliens the marines don't even contact the two captured marines.

Not to be that guy, but i roleplay it and while I may not add a stutter, I do my best to portray fear and utter hopelessness. I'm repeating myself, but I'd prefer a higher emphasis on roleplay (and its enforcement) rather than relying on coding.

Also did not know that there was a directors cut version depicting Dallas in a nest! Excuse me while I youtube that shit.

If I can't speak means I can't tell terrible jokes while I'm nested with other marines :[[

You can still speak, it'll just be stuttered and kinda broken up

Shameless bump of my own topic.

+1, transfering code from other speech impediments shouldnt be too bad, and i think it really does help get people to be a little bit more in character/ a light reminder of the situation a person is in. It might also be interesting to have a player drift in and out of sleep, similar to the coma most survivors are found in, but thats another idea.
Gaze upon me,

...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

Would be kinda neat, but the whole location thing never bothered me too much because the marine jumpsuits all have vitals and location trackers that tell you where they are anyway...

It's not the location thing (anymore) that bothers me, it's the whole fact that you, as a marine, are in a LITERAL alien hive but aren't scared at all. This will add that element, hopefully
