Nesting Walls
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Just rewatched aliens again today in like four years, and I noticed that not a single person in the entire movie was kept on the floor. I think it'd be neat to remove resin nests, and add in "nesting walls" which would work as significantly weaker resin walls that you can attach hosts to, and breaking out/cuffs would work the same way.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It would create a better atmosphere closer to the movie, it would help stop honeycomb hive bug abuse like corner shooting through resin doors at captured hosts, it'd give drones new places to build nests besides just honeycombing the shit out of everything to keep hosts in, and would allow sentinels to actually patrol the hive down corridors/rooms of nested hosts instead of just waiting at the honeycomb.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Instead of building resin nests, drones would be able to build nesting walls, which you'd use to capture either infected or simply captured hosts. (If you wanted to be really fancy, you could make the nesting wall have to be attached to a resin wall or only one host per nesting wall so you can't just have nesting pillars that hold four marines at a time, I like these ideas a lot better but idk if it'd be easy to code) These nesting walls would be a quarter of the health of normal resin walls making them only useful deep inside the hive so they won't just be the only resin structure planted. To attach somebody to the wall you'd bring the host next to the wall and drag them onto it (maybe having the "object impaled so and so to the wall to keep them stuck) and they'd be immobilized as they are in current resin nests. You could still handcuff them, and they'd be stuck in a standing position next to the wall until they free themselves or another marine frees them. I'd envision this working as becoming the inside walls of the inner hive, dead hosts and infected ones alike liking the walls as a marine squad comes into the hive being stalked by an unseen enemy.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Lots of coding and spriting I'm sure

Re: Nesting Walls
Isn't the nesting wall just exactly the same thing as a normal nest?
Another thing, it was nigh impossible for marines to escape nests.

Re: Nesting Walls
Yes, it's literally just a normal nest but instead of it being on the ground it'd have the marines trapped up against the wall for muh immursions. And yeah, but that's a balance issue that already caused like 14 salty topic pages that ended in complaining about the wrongdoings of staffmembers, so I'm not gonna mess with that.SPACEpotato1 wrote:Isn't the nesting wall just exactly the same thing as a normal nest?

+1. It's great for immersion, as well have good functionality. Corner spitting could still be used in several ways, but would be heavily mitigated if you didn't know how.

Re: Nesting Walls
There are no bad parts and neither are there good parts(aside from again, immersion), its just nesting but on walls instead.NoahKirchner wrote:Ok, just out of curiosity what are the bad parts?

Re: Nesting Walls
You could argue that it would reduce corner spitting and open up nests a bit more if marines have to be plastered on a wall.MrJJJ wrote:There are no bad parts and neither are there good parts(aside from again, immersion), its just nesting but on walls instead.

Re: Nesting Walls
+1 this would be amazing, but the problems i see are how it would look in sprite form. Nests currently tend to be placed on tiles that might not include walls. unknown how that will all pan out.
Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!
