What is your opinion on cloning?

Post by Crab_Spider » 15 Dec 2016, 11:22

So cloning was removed for one round and because I left early, I don't know how the round went. So, what are the pros and cons of cloning? What role do you play most often?
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Marines won that round. It made mutinies far more... devastating (sorry), but marines planetside (from what I could hear over BO comms), really stuck together and attempted to save each other more.

I wasn't groundside that round, I was a BO who got fucking ganked by Noah during a mutiny I didn't know was happening, but I thought the round was much more fun as players were far more desperate in terms of self-preservative.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Please keep cloning... or just make a timely to make chem that heals all wounds of a dead body and restores consciousness. I'm not ready to die, I have to kill Xur one more time.

Naw dawg. Cloning is both non-cannon and non-constructive or RP.

I was planetside that round, the marines took a pill of Robustlin Plus and started to kick ass, they were less rambo, more organized and more willing to stay in numbers.

I would remove cloning and add reinforcements shuttles. Or just give the marines 1 chance to respawn as a random marine, after they die again they can't respawn again

I'm all for removing cloning, but to say it isn't canon is simply not correct.

From the synopsis of Alien: Resurrection:

"In 2379, two hundred years after the events of Alien 3, military scientists on the space vessel USM Auriga create a clone of Ellen Ripley using DNA from blood samples taken before her death."
I play as this guy, proudly being dismembered by extraterrestrials since 2015.
Sometimes I might play other guys, you never know.

I was thinking about that after I wrote this, but in the Aliens universe the marines were never expected to be cloned. But you are correct, cloning was a thing.

Yeah. It's probably quite expensive, and from what we saw they didn't have any cloning technology on the Sulaco in Aliens. Good enough reasons to remove it from our ship, IMO.

A lot of you folks want things to be so in tune with the lore, but really, most of the things on CM don't follow practical lore in the first place, it was already stated that Apop is trying to follow his OWN lore, but it is his idea to remove cloning. I find that idea to be horrid because it removes any chance of someone actually being a tide turner for the round to come back and have that same impact they have had previously. This is SS13 people, removing some of the key aspects that make it so would just wash down any real feel of the game. I'm against the removal of cloning.

Cloning is already pretty useless. It takes a long time to get dragged back into the Rasp and put into line to be cloned (if anyone cares). Plus, Aliens can devour or decap marines to soft-counter cloning.

Just remove it. I do agree that mahrines need a way to get back into the round, because in long games of SS13 dying at the beginning and twiddling your thumbs until you become a Xeno or a distress beacon is sent out and you luckily get chosen to be in the squad sucks hard. There's a reason why SS13 eventually added cloning as an actual feature.

We really need to Increase the limit of damage to defib. Put it on 300 or 400. Then we won't need cloning
On May 17, 2016, a group of farmers dug up the diary of an ear of corn named Watson. Here are his entries.

Day 76:
They took Lawrence, dear god Lawrence... They ripped him off the stalk and smeared him in butter, just like Tyler and Jodie. They shipped him off to the popcorn factory...
I wonder what his wife will say.

Day 120: My brother says the VEGANS are protesting for more anti-meat bullshit. They want more of us to die. FUCKING HEATHENS.

Day 153: The ants are eating me from the inside out. They are popping out my kernels and taking them back to the nest. I feel them moving inside me. Julia says the pesticides will end our misery.

Day 300: Sweet Release. I can hear the planes flying over now. They are dropping the gas, it feels so good, sweet release-

Honestly, I didn't feel anything different during the round.

Most people don't get cloned as is, due to how difficult it can be to recover bodies during the heat of the moment. Combine with the fact that you are probably going to be gibbed or lost deep within the cave network, and you might as well just accept that you are going to have to sit out the round unless you feel like being a xeno or waiting for an ERT to come in.

Even in vanilla, being cloned was something that didn't happen often, since traitors would hide your body to ensure their objectives are met, or you get gibbed by a wizard or something.

In SS13, permadeath is bound to happen, so it is best to just accept it and chill, watch how the round plays out... Or take over the body of a crab and spook people by snipping their toes from under a table. Aaah.. good times..
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

I should note that removing cloning wont make marines robust every round. Same as attachments. The reason they band together on those rounds its removed is to show that they dont rely on it. if you perma-remove it, Theres nothing to show. it wont come back so you'll just get salt.
I think cloning should stay in, but be refluffed. Make it an autodoc that somehow gets their body back in good enough shape and then defibs it. Mechanically the same but less 'Spess magic' involved.

WE DO NOT SPEAK OF THAT MOVIE.

Also, when we remove cloning, it will be with a medical update and rework.

Eh, I barely let myself get cloned unless the round really interests me.

Mh, what movie?

All jokes aside, yeah it sucks. I cringe whenever I see that goddamn alien-human hybrid thing that looks like Oogie Boogie from the Nightmare Before Christmas.

I like that it's there. SS13 is a game with an inherently high casualty rate, and with baymed's long surgery time, it's less punishing if you bite it. But I could just be a power gamer. :v
Player of Rain Winterson and Winter Silverson.

Not terribly robust, but will give runners bananas.

This is why cloning doesn't really matter, and doctors will get lazy or ignore the giant fucking corpse pile outside of the cloning bay.

I am just hoping there is a much better solution when its removed, if apop saying "medical update and rework" isint a hint enough, otherwise as of right now, its very meh, unless you die near marines, you are fucked.

last I heard about the solution,it was to make reviving a lot easier or something like that.
