What Deserves an Upvote
So I haven't really had a formula for providing a +1 on any whitelists apps until today. I'm going to buff out my criteria with any input you guys provide, but I think that at the BARE minimum, a player should have:
- 10/5 (depending on whitelist) posts/comments for every month their account has been active with a minimum of two months.
- A character dossier (why should you get a special role to play of you won't even make the most of the character you already have?)
- Clean notes (doesn't have to be spotless, but reasonable depending on which whitelist)
- Display maturity
What am I missing? What should I change? What do you use to grade an application?

I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Re: What Deserves an Upvote
Just my own opinion but I feel mchat activity and discord activity should also be taken into account, I personally have shit-all actual forum posting activity but view posts a lot, I do spend a lot of time on Discord talking though.
This is just what I thought off others may have different opinions on it.

Even though you say you have "shit-all" for posting, you still average just over 5 posts a month.Kavlo wrote:Just my own opinion but I feel mchat activity and discord activity should also be taken into account, I personally have shit-all actual forum posting activity but view posts a lot, I do spend a lot of time on Discord talking though.

Competency depending on the position, Commanders should be competent at Command rules, Predators should be competent in their knowledge of the lore and honor codes. Whatever kind of competency their role requires, and only competency in those areas.

I feel like counting how many times they post is a bad metric because it rewards people who post a lot of ill-thought out comments or stupid jokes, instead of those who make few, helpful suggestions or large megathreads that are of actual use to the community.

Maturity, good attitude and at least three people that can speak for them is a solid +1 to me. However, whitelist roles require a certain level of RP.

I agree with Telegnats. Are Acid Goop posts counted towards your total post count? If so that's another reason to stay away from using their post number as a way to judge someone. The best middle ground would be to find a way to both encourage active forum use while also making meaningful contributions instead of Bill Carson memes or Hitler shitposting.
Not that shitposting or in jokes are bad, but they're a poor reflection of competency for the role they're applying for.

The reason I think post counting is because it demonstrates you have a level of investment in not just the game, but the community.
Obviously it's not a perfect system, but it has definitely demonstrated its use.

Re: What Deserves an Upvote
My bad for misinterpreting then. I had a feeling that's what you meant but wasn't sure.
I haven't been around here for very long so maybe dossiers are more important to CM than I realize, but I've done a lot of heavy roleplay and have only ever made a character page/wiki once... And then I got bored of the character because it felt too constrained. I personally prefer having a very loose, yet concise character than one that I've thought up every single detail of. Obv this is HRP experience being applied to MRP so take it with a grain of salt. If it's a proven system that having a character bio here relates to caring more about your character/the roleplay then I wont complain.
Can't argue about clean notes and maturity though. I think having those two on your checklist works no matter what type of community you're at.

Re: What Deserves an Upvote
I don't think participating in forum is a sign of investment. I could post 100 times a day... but if they were only meme threafs then does it count as being invested?
Using myself as an example. I meet all your criteria for an invite but I still got down voted to oblivion I don't hold that against anyone, but I RP I have an investment in RPing as shown by my dossier and the fact I play her, and not meta/power game, in fact I die due to her faults often.
Regardless...I think if I know you personally, or a good variety of people vet you and not just your metagroup then it's good enough for my +1 for anything.

Re: What Deserves an Upvote
I am willing to argue that meme posts aren't entirely worthless. While yes, *only* meme posts would be bad, having a mix of the two shows that you're in it just as much for the people as you are for the game (you can laugh with the other people just as you can offer suggestions or write guides I mean), but that's just me. Some people do disagree.LocalizedDownpour wrote:I don't think participating in forum is a sign of investment. Re: What Deserves an Upvote
I usually grade based off quality of writing and whether the character has any form of possible development, or is unique in a way it could interact with others, but still be an individual.
