/new/ Whiskey Outpost discussion

Post by Sad_Corn » 07 Jan 2017, 23:44

Today we tested the new WO round, resulting in two xeno majors on wave 9

What you guys think that could improve in WO?

For me, xenos have WAY too much numbers, being able to swarm marines at the wave 6 by infinite runners and drones

By the way, the map is way too large, maybe a smaller building area could help? I don't know

The map still under tests, but reply this with what you think (If you played today)
On May 17, 2016, a group of farmers dug up the diary of an ear of corn named Watson. Here are his entries.

Day 76:
They took Lawrence, dear god Lawrence... They ripped him off the stalk and smeared him in butter, just like Tyler and Jodie. They shipped him off to the popcorn factory...
I wonder what his wife will say.

Day 120: My brother says the VEGANS are protesting for more anti-meat bullshit. They want more of us to die. FUCKING HEATHENS.

Day 153: The ants are eating me from the inside out. They are popping out my kernels and taking them back to the nest. I feel them moving inside me. Julia says the pesticides will end our misery.

Day 300: Sweet Release. I can hear the planes flying over now. They are dropping the gas, it feels so good, sweet release-

Charlie and Delta did fucking amazing, thats what. 10/10 MVP and that guy named Cameron Hyers . . .

Delta Squad held the longest in the first round and took down the most xenos.

Charlie Squad took the brunt of the fighting early on in the second round and ANNIHILATED the xenos.

Only two rounds was not enough to think of many things.
- great map/gamemode.
- lag on center was bad.
- aliens numbers increasing too fast.
- aliens focusing on center and ignoring west/east was a problem on this last round.

I was on Delta :D

You guys played two rounds and made it about 70% of the way through.

Sounds pretty balanced so far.

WO really needs someone to remind anyone going for roles like medics to remove their eyeslot gear and helmets. Otherwise, they'll spawn in without a helmet and without a medHUD.
Troublesome, as usual.

I'm a headband user, and since there are no huggers i did pretty fine without helmets, but i sucked without the damn MedHUD, and couldn't heal that much

Thanks for the feedback.

However to counter some points, Whiskey Outpost's size was increased due to the friendly fire fest that was the original Whiskey Outpost. Not to mention now that when you run out of spawns because theres so many people who want to play, you're more than capable of covering all fronts.

I am currently revamping the spawnlists for the xenos. The main issues I do often see is that marines don't prepare enough/dont get the map layout. The place is incredibly defensible. Just takes time to get the layout I suppose. Also I'm working on making it so Commander roles and Doctor roles are separated so you don't get some of the weird issues.

WO Needs some Improvement,But for now,It Is already Fun to play.I Hope That "Mini-Game" Don't be "Exterminated" like Nigthmare. It would be great To Play It after Some long rounds.

Small Edit here:I Played was A doc Last round and that was,Really Stressing.I would Like to see If the staff Could "Fix" that If Possible,Of Course.

I hope this'll be played throughout the week as I plan on getting muh FOB on in this sick new map, and the mention of Mounted Guns gets my inner Combat Engie already thinking about how to abuse this power.

I also missed out on this due to timezones and taking a dedicated break from CM for a few days.

I really liked this mode, because it keeps all the good stuff of Colonial Marines (Killing Xenos, desperate last stands), and sheds off all the annoying stuff (Queen screeches, hugger combat, meta rules, people whining about meta rules being broken.)

It could get repetitive after a while, but it makes for a nice palette cleanser after those horribly drawn out 4 hour rounds. Quite good all in all!

edit: Also, I think it could be a *bit* more balanced towards Marines, if only for the sake of witnessing more epic 19th wave massacres.

Finally I can play with the bandana without handicapping myself

But for actual discussion...

Loved the game mode and the map, it's like those times when we had to defend the FOB from the aliens, but this time it's more "pure" as Dogar pointed out.

Just think the marines need a buff. It's 1 hour to win and the longest I've seen was 30 minutes wuntil xeno victory.

It would be interesting see a rework of SPCs, maybe hability to select their own gear and some extra slots.

I like it, it's really refreshing and I hope this is a taste of things to come with the new game modes being worked on. The alien franchise has a lot of different feels to it, and while the standard gamemode is pretty immersive, this one feels like the scenes where they are just getting swarmed by dozens of the aliens who don't care about surviving.

I really like the map, but, i think the armory should be revamped, currently it's too small and chaotic for high-pop

I love the feedback guys. The next update of whiskey outpost will take into account some of these things. Doctor's will be getting a nice QoL update for them and marines will get a interesting new tool.

However I will make this public, but the armory has to go. I originally put it in the original whiskey outpost as a spot to switch out your gear out if you didn't like what you got but what happens is that marines(and doctors) rush it to get extra guns and ammo. Even after I made it smaller and make it a direct carbon copy of the sulaco armory with commander only access, it still was being raided. So unfortunately it has to go. It's not capable of doing the original job I had intended it to.

Also marines will get more firepower on one of the defensive lines. I'm also working on ways to have marines more so on the first lines of defense at the start since alot of marines are not moving up all the way sometimes.

Some glaring issues.

1. Balance, marines get roflstomped often before t3s even spawn. I spawned in 10 extra sentries, admin built walls and b18 armor and marines still lost at wave 11.

2. Its a bit too big, by the time youre back at the central outpost most marines are dead and there arent enough marines to defend the primary outpost.

3. All the extra guns are kind of useless and only function as a distraction for the marines.

4. The main bunker could use some more love and inprovements. Perhaps a lockdown feature when shits really hit the fan.

5. More static pre-made walls and fences would be nice. Force xenos to melt certain areas to get access to flanking areas.

Some few things I noticed:

1) Central is a tad bit too large for defending properly without what Feweh did (Sentries and whatnot). It'd be cool if the area was re-designed slightly to offer a better hold-out.

2) IRs are too often mishandled, leading to devastating FF. (At that point, I'd just make sure it's not grief. Shit throws and pounce happen)

3) All marines should start with a bayonet, for the sake of CQC or clearing out vegetation, but mostly for situational fluff.

4) The base should have some walling as Feweh stated. Spitters can take out reinforced walls with corrosive acid spits, so they really don't block much.

5) Marines need to learn that sandbags and plasteel cades don't block spits when they stand on it.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Fairly sure this is already in, You should have a bayonet/knife spawn in your pocket now.

Ah, then my squads are just bad as I suspected, kk.
( I mean, our squad got IR'd, then another round the SL told us to go on the front when there was 2 lanes ahead.. Stuff like that (Also the FF... Sheesh))

Adding MG nests a bit further up would give us some incentive to create barricades that don't suck further up the lines, but as it stands my plan is to build from the centre outwards because one of the sides always ends up falling a few waves in and it becomes "Everyone fall back and hold the centre", this literally happened three rounds in a row.

Some mines pre-planted into the main area, plus further MG nests, to prevent sneaky runners breaching medbay into wave 1-2
