Adjustment to Donor Gear/Armor
So, as many of you know, previously, Donor Gear and Armor has been unstrippable.
However, due to the recent changes, this means that you can't revive someone wearing donor gear with the Defib.
So, here's the changes we are going to be doing (they'll go into effect in a few days):
1. Donor gear/Armor will be able to be stripped off
2. Stripping Donor gear to "steal" it or without a good reason, falls under Rule 0.
3. Stealing/wearing other peoples Donor gear will result in at a minimum a noted warning, at maximum a ban. Even with given permission by the gear owner. Our conditions for the donor gear is that it is bound to specific players/characters. (This will be added as a rule)
Questions/Comments?

I've never actually asked this...if you're fighting Xenos, and you have no helmet, and no other helmets around, can you take a donor helmet if they have one...?

Re: Adjustment to Donor Gear/Armor
Just seems like sensible stuff that could've always been around, I don't see any downside to this besides people thinking they can get away with stealing and then getting told they can't. Which has never been a huge issue in the first place with donor gear.

What if you're a pred, and you slay someone with Donor gear, and you take something of theirs as a prize/trophy? I've had an instance where I've slain a marine with gear and took their helmet.

Could we change the stripping message to inform this for donor gear?

Re: Adjustment to Donor Gear/Armor
I can tell someone's gonna mess up and take a donor item either by accident or on purpose, but it's their own fault for not reading the rules. This is perfectly sensible, but may I suggest having donor gear named/marked in a way that makes it obvious to NOT take it, such as a (D) at the beginning of the name or maybe the gear name in all caps?

or....y'know...notice they aren't wearing a helmet or something? most of the armor is named so you'd be able to checkNightcaper wrote:I can tell someone's gonna mess up and take a donor item either by accident or on purpose, but it's their own fault for not reading the rules. Excuse my ignorance, I've never found myself in a situation where I've had to see a donor item's name, or strip someone's uniform/armor to defib that has donor gear on. I would not know the intricacies of how they're named. If it's obvious, then excellent.

Re: Adjustment to Donor Gear/Armor
nothing wrong with not noticing, i'm just saying if it doesn't have M3 pattern armor or something like that and it has some sort of name like "santa suit"(looking at you, wooki) then chances are its a donor item. Most also have a different sprite as well, so be on the lookout for those sweet pixels.Nightcaper wrote:Excuse my ignorance, I've never found myself in a situation where I've had to see a donor item's name, or strip someone's uniform/armor to defib that has donor gear on. +1 Yes! Now I can defib and revive snowflakes who have special donor uniform or armor! It's been frustrating as medic and ruins immersion when you can't strip people for the love of god just to defib them...

I'd rather have it so that people who take donor gear without permission can get punished if the donor notices and complains about it. I know that if I were dead and my helmet was unscratched I wouldn't care if a fellow marine took it for self-preservation since that makes sense RP-wise.

Re: Adjustment to Donor Gear/Armor
I'm against having rules specifically against stealing donor items, and here's why. There are only a few situations in which a donator will have his gear stolen.
1. He is being griefed in one way or another, which is already against the rules.
2. He has removed it and no longer wants to carry it or wear it on his persons. He can dispose of it if he wants, and who cares otherwise?
3. He has died. This is likely the most common reason, and if they've died, IAW server policy, them getting cloned is a privilege and not a right. A rule in place to preserve donor gear goes against the very heart of our cloning policy and will further enforce people's expectation to be cloned.
I can't think of any other situations off the top of my head, but I think I've hit the major ones.

I agree, no point in handing out bans for someone taking donor armor that's unwanted by the person itself.Biolock wrote:I'm against having rules specifically against stealing donor items, and here's why. There are only a few situations in which a donator will have his gear stolen.

Re: Adjustment to Donor Gear/Armor
Even with cloning removed in favor for a defibrillator system, those are very important points, Biolock.Biolock wrote:... He has removed it and no longer wants to carry it or wear it on his persons....
... He has died. This is likely the most common reason...
"The player died, and can't be revived, but is still wearing a non-damaged donor item helmet."
OR
"The player tossed his helmet away at round-start."
- Can't a player pick up and make good use of this gear in dire situations? (Imminent confrontation with xenomorphs when they already know about how hazardous are the facehuggers for unprotected humans?)
... Wouldn't YOU try to survive by all means in that situation?
Just an insight:
The helmet fitting is another thing...
Put a CKEY check in place, inside "on equip" action of those items (or the related code you are using), with a "This helmet / armor / uniform is too tight for you." flavor text (a realistic reason for them to not fit), and no one ever will be able to equip donor items, if it's that important to keep such items exclusive to the respective donors.
On the other hand? Having a rule to punish those doing the most obvious - and totally in character - action, just creates unnecessary grief for incoming new players and adds another burden to the moderators / administrators.

Re: Adjustment to Donor Gear/Armor
I totally understand that wearing a donor item is forbidden. But I think after Queen gibs your buddy it's appropriate to collect his special gear bring it back to the Almayer and place it in the corner of the fallen heroes.
