Why are some players such gaping rectums?
Playing survivor the other day, make it to the Sulaco to get an ID and try to head back to the planet. LT explicitly forbids me to get on the shuttle. I sneak on anyway as it lauches. When we land, Pilot orders me to stay on under threat of death. I sneak off, unarmed, and Pilot chases after me and starts shooting to kill. I run and get my head blown off by a turret. (That last bit's my bad.)
Survivor again, get chased by xenos, injured. I run into a marine and start screaming the usual survivor litany: colony overrun, they're coming out of the walls, blah blah blah. Marine screams at me to drop my gun. I back off and put my gun in one hand. I tell him there's fucking aliens RIGHT HERE and there's no way I'm gonna drop my gun with just one marine here. He just keeps screaming. He shoots at me, I shoot back. Marine Pattern armor: 1. Snow Coat: 0.
Marine. I join 15 minutes into the round. RO line is empty except for me, and cargo tech is just about to close up shop. I ask for my two attachments, and just as he's about to dispense them, an MP comes by and orders him to close up shop, and says I need to get to the Rasp or I'll be arrested. Again, I'm the only person in the line. It would have taken 5 seconds for me to have gotten my attachments, and the Rasp wasn't even launching when I got there.
So my question is, why do people act like such cunts whenever their job gives them the slightest leeway to do so? This is supposed to be a fun game that recreates the tense moments from the movies, isn't it? Why would you keep survivors from going down to the surface to actually enjoy the game? Killing xenos is fun, CL debriefings are tedious as fuck. Why be a dick in general? People defend this shit as "RP", but RP is only fun if the role you're playing is an enjoyable one, and it seems there's way too many people who are trying to make it as sucky as possibe, just because there's a slight RP justification for doing so.
So yeah, please don't.

Re: Why are some players such gaping rectums?
It's kinda odd because when it comes to marines, survivors are just there to get an early start on xeno knowledge and thus eliminate a lot of metabarriers (allowing them to prepare for facehuggers, bring down extra ammo/materials, push up to the river early, etc) so it's imperative for them to get you to the Sulaco so that Command can greenlight all of the aforementioned stuff. If they keep you on the planet and just radio everything in via squad comms/general comms then there's usually a few people who never catch on.
Also I wanna say that number 2 was probably okay because in a situation like that the survivor would be stripped of their weapons and detained, since distress calls follow SWAT logic of "everyone is a suspect" (but since most people know that ayylmaos are the real threat they don't pay attention to this).

Welcome to reality, majority of humans aren't smart, but think they are, heck i am most likely one of them.
What you see isin't all that uncommon, there has been worser incidents (i still hate people who go important roles while not knowing how to do them) and while some are justified, some are not, you have yet to scratch the surface of this mess or even see it, trust me, it get's much, much worser, just make sure to prepare that ahelp button

Every situation you described there sounds like interesting RP.
No idea why youre complaining about as all 3 incidents had legitement reasons to do what they did IC.

After rereading the OP this is so incredibly true, aside the marine shooting you, that's just to be expected from baldies really.Feweh wrote:Every situation you described there sounds like interesting RP.

"So incredibly true?" You got some brown on your nose, buddy.
Like hell it is. There's literally no reason to keep survivors on the Sulaco once they get an ID, other than the fact that person doing this is an ambulatory sphincter. Sure, you can cook up some trumped up IC reasons, but OOC you're just being an asshole, especially if the survivor has been nothing but helpful.

This is why this server is MediumRP, folks. Because the only interesting RP people can think of completely antagonizes another person just for the sake of it (or their need to kill), not because it is a built up conflict based on something substantial such as a story plot.
You obviously don't know what or how RP works if you think being a dick to people (no, not saying boo boo words or making crude jokes, I mean examples like what OP is saying that waste players name intentionally / gets them killed for little to no reason) is a "interesting IC conflict".

Re: Why are some players such gaping rectums?
To be honest, the first story you told us does sound like poor RP. The other two are passable when you consider the logic at the time.
Still, Why would a survivor, after all he went through, want to go BACK the colony he escaped from? Because he is bored? A normal person wouldn't be so willing to go back unless they had a real good reason to (forgot important documents, lost a friend and need to find them, etc).
If you want action all the time, don't go survivor. A survivor is an RP heavy role, where you are expected to behave like a normal person, not an action movie hero who runs around screaming and blasting a machinegun all over the place. Unless you have a REASON why you are running around screaming and going daka daka with your shooty gun, you are expected to remain in the safety of the Sulico until either the end of the round, or until you choose to cyro [and probably join the xenos you just escaped from].

Maybe its high RP when you get put up into the Sulaco, but if you stay planetside for any amount of time (and don't ask for rescue, deciding to stay planetside anyway) then you better be a robust player with extensive game knowledge as well as rounding up the other survivors to work together or you will most likely be maimed to death by a Runner or Hunter.
And even then, the moment your up on the Sulaco, your shit out of luck due to how boring Survivor becomes. You effectively become a Corporate Liason in levels of fun except you don't even have a CL's access, so your fucked. Its much more fun to stay planetside and see how long you can survive alongside looting any fallen marines for their gear than to stay up at the Sulaco and cryo anyway out of sheer boredom.

I can understand that quite well, and it isn't a role for everyone. Even I sometimes struggle to keep entertained unless I roll a "job" that I can work well with and can create RP with.Swagile wrote:> High RP role

A lot of the time, like with CL, it takes improvisation. Sometimes you gotta make your own fun, which is why you pay attention to the small details and work around it, rather than simply play as a survivor pure. It takes creativity, and a lot of it.

How does one even RP when there is no one to RP with?

Re: Why are some players such gaping rectums?
My problem isn't the creativity aspect, its the fact that the people around you that are supposed to respond to your creativity would rather go do something else, such as shoot things, heal people, and/or build stuff.Renomaki wrote:I can understand that quite well, and it isn't a role for everyone. Or if your a CL, waiting for admins to never respond to your faxes that you worked hard to make.
There is no purpose in roleplay when no one cares about that roleplay, hence why I don't bother and would rather stay survivor pure / not play CL at all or any roles like it.

Personally, I feel the Command would have good bloody reason and full justification for not letting a Survivor go back to the planet once they're up in the Sulaco.
Realistically, your debrief time alone is going to take the entire game length.
I'd have you writing out a report in triplicate to me, minimum 5,000 words on WTF happened.

2nd situation, that's just another boot shoulda just reported him or something if you felt some type of way
3rd one, well you shoulda just pretended to go the rasp then go back to cargo
