Is CM becoming more competive?

Post by Crab_Spider » 17 Mar 2017, 13:04

As I started out, the only thoughts I had about the game was "holy shit is this terrifying" and "I should probably make an MMO based on this." Everyday, I analyzed each and detail that stood out for the game, all while I was learning the rope. The game had RP to limit the combat approach of it for humans, and it was strict on what you could do for non-combat roles and scenarios. This stood out the most, as I began to play more and more, with me salting about the systems of the game being "shite" or unfair, I began to become accustomed to these aspects and just stopped caring altogether. Battle with xenos wasn't my priority, and just saving people or making an impact on the round all I could and still strive for. Looking at it now, most of our regulars understand the RP and do a decent job in maintaining it, but with new rules and removals, people who were pushing more to play as and main standard Marine. SLs became competent again, but taking a look back, some veteran players (i.e Xurphorous) and some other guys that joined around the same time I did, became a tad bit, too interested in the combat aspect of the game, some even using strageties that essentially interacted with the environment in a way they would a game. Why?

read that. Read it, ALL THE FUCKING WAY. What stands out about it? You know. The need to have our abilities and opinions validated, our names recognized enough to be considered trustworthy. We're in a military setting correct? What do you see portrayed in most relationships in fiction that have a militaristic there to them? The soldiers KNOW and TRUST each other, in a way that it assures and strengthens their strong will to survive and save one another. It's... not strange, but for a game like this, that need is made much more... realistic.

tl;dr, yes it fucking is. What? You thought these nerfs and buffs were for RP?

Why do you think the codes private. It's a culmination of many things and one of them is because the game is competitive. Apops said it, the staff have said it. It's a competitive game in which there are two sides fighting.

To be fair, the codes private, but most of us took a peek onto it when it was leaked...there was nothing interesting in there to really even grab for other servers, and bootlegs fell because they lost interest

But yeah the game is competitive, but its competitive nature often doesn't result in a fun for the entire playerbase, *cough* cheesey tactics that either need fixing or can't be fixed *cough*

This was a rollercoaster.

Started out as first impressions, went to saying how most of the players maintain rp, you briefly touched on powergaming and then

AAAAAAAAAAAAA VALIDATION THE NERFS AND BUFFS ARE FOR BALANCE

I am not entirely sure what question you're trying to ask or what message you're trying to convey, but I mean yeah I guess? It's a bit more competitive I guess, but what was the point of the rest of the thread?

I know, I wanted to waste 30 minutes making this thread because why not?

It's a multiplayer game where two clear sides are fighting. It's going to be competitive in a sense. I... don't fully understand what the point is here.
I play Aria Vivici. I think people like me. I'm not sure why.

The point is the RP of the game also creates a valid reason for why some people want to win, and the link I provided sums up the goal of the general playerbase.

With the way things are being built in this game its eventually just gonna be competitive considering no one can have any actual fun considering how people play now.
