Pro tip for those who go no armor like a true viking.

ALWAYS get a buckshot shotty, because having no armor (as said above) means your a target to all xenos... which is a GOOD thing.

They will come to YOU instead of you having to go to THEM, hence you have the advantage and can buck shot stun then melee them. This puts most xenos (T1 AND T2) into critical, which you can then finish off with the next blast. Double points if you somehow managed to get a charger, since CQC buckshot with a charger is literally cuckshot heaven as it can insta gib xenos (even Young T3's) if you do it right. If not instagib, it crits them immediately.

Usually wear armour, 1 round I was given the opportunity to wear predator clan armour by the delta specialist, had a Cuckshot at the time and went, fuck it, why not? The rest of that round became a Sanic with deadly cuckshot, making runs chasing aliens, I even on multiple occasions hit and run the queen forcing it to run away, and then I sidelined a elite drone, chased it all the way to the hive (at the time marines were fighting for control of northern hydroponics and the river) and when i lost sight of it (no rail flash and pred armour has no lights) i came back and ran into the queen, rav, and Ancient Spitter. It took the ancient spitter 1 spit and 2 slashes to rip my arm off, then hug me cause Ancient is best.

Thing is, having no armour isnt that much of a boon against Xenos, the smart xenos aim for your head and limbs which are not protected anyway aside from a helmet. The only thing you have to truely worry about wearing no armour is FF. FF will absolutely kill you and quickly without armour. Overall id side with the side of Armour cause FF is real especially these days, and Im a good little marine all dressed and proper, just ignore the 2-3 cigarette packs i have on my helmet.

I think the popularity, more accurately the lack thereof, of Chitin Plates answers the question pretty well.

Then again, I suppose the reason Chitin Plates are never used is because they only apply to the chest plates, not the helmet as well.

If I had a choice in game I would take more armour over speed. In most cases the Aliens possess the speed advantage.

Chitin plate is absolute garbo, though.

Slows you down and most xenos aim for head (decap so no defib as well as hugger combat removing helmets), and limbs (cut hand = ur fucked even with a one handed weapon, cut leg = ur fucked since your now super slow). Only newbie xenos / forgetful xenos aim at the chest since its just not worth it and its the most protected area of a marine.

Dunno how old this was but I put a lot of thought into this when the speed nerfs were first added and honestly I ultimately decided that armor was mandatory.
Not for xenos, Lord knows it does nothing against them, But for FF. No other reason. The part of armor that makes it mandatory is the fact that it keeps you from getting broken bones from SMG spamming nerds.
Last time I went no armor I had 6 broken bones and Alisa spent as much time resplinting me after someone shot me again as she was spending keeping other people alive.
The second you get hit with anything your speed advantage is lost and you now have nothing but drawbacks.
