Hello! I'm Crab_Spider, the King and Bishop of Beach Marine, and today we're going to have a guest by the name of RandomWriter. Our topic today is called "Mary Sue", a character like this: You can see everything wrong in that description. He doesn't even try to hide it. So. What's a Mary Sue? A Mary Sue is like Sasuke Uchiha. No FUCKING FLAWS AT ALL, WOMEN FALL AT HIS FEET FOR NO DISCERNABLE REASON, HE'S OP FOR NO REASON AT ALL, AND I SWEAR THE GUY MADE SO MANY FUCKING ASSPULLS HE'S LIKE XUR DERGENS! ANOTHER MARY SUE! HOW DO I KNOW?! WELL HE HAS GHOST AS HIS NICKNAME!

Puck Mike was born on LV-990, a alien planet that had a human colony on it, his whole family was killed and he was saved by colonial Marines and since his whole family was dead they let him join at 13. Puck Mike became a Sniper at 14 and killed 250 aliens so the colonial marines promoted him to Lance Admiral. When the alien war broke out, Puck Mike demoted himself to Private First Class so he could be a sniper again and fitgh the aliens.

Greetings, ladies and gentlemen of the internet. My apologies for any exemplary rudeness.

For starters, what is a Mary Sue?

Simply put, it's not just a baldie, it's not just a poorly written character, (Though those show exemplary chances of being similar to a sue.)

It's the woman at the side of the room with starry eyes, the attractive personality that drags herself/himself into center stage, it's the fourteen year old boy who became a sniper and took out 500 aliens, despite the fact that according to the rules, the marines have never seen them.

I'm not going to pretend to be a master guru on the subject, but you may feel free to rant, or fill in examples, tips of your own, or whatever suits your fancy.

The first step to fixing a mary sue, or at least one of the simplest steps, is to give your character at least one to two flaws. I don't mean like physical flaws like "oh well he's ugly", or "oh well he has a SICK MECHANICAL ARM THAT PUNCHES N STUFF".

I mean psychological flaws.

Take Bobby Dickens. (Whadda ya mean I can't use my own character? :P )

He's paranoid, he's sarcastic, and he's not great with people.

As long as you actually RP those flaws, however, he suddenly becomes a good character, instead of just some fluff used by your average joe.

This does not mean, however, that your character must always lose.

They don't have to be perfect, because there is no such thing as a perfect person, but they don't have to be covered in flaws.

i'm sure they've met aliens before, after all the xenomorphs are called XX121, meaning there's probably been a few xeno races met before....nothing about a war with any of them anyway...

Xenomorphs being encountered before would imply that anyone who's seen them were killed before they can spill the beans. While we don't know who encountered xenomorphs and lived to tell the tale, its best we keep this discussion shut before some clever people use this as a loophole to remove the meta lock on xenomorphs (ironically... I once RPed as an MP who had a father that was involved in LV 624 in making the XX121... oh boy....)

he could very well be talking about another species of xeno all together (remember: xeno=alien)

I don't know if this' too much of a part of being a Mary Sue, but anyone else care that certain people have characters with names that no one would ever name their child? I don't have any good examples, but I'm sure there's someone out there who's named themselves Timmy Pterodactyl or something along those lines.

Yeah, that's technically bordering the lines of Sueness.

There has to be a trait that fits your character as to why they have a unique name. A character like... gag reflex, proceeded by the sound of vomiting Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way, from the abomination of a book, (my God I had to actually remember that piece of shit story)... My Immortal. She was called Ebony because, somehow, she was born with long black hair, although babies are born without hair (usually). That name alone is way too long, and if we're going to get technical, naming your child "Nostalgia" or "Buckshot" ("Buck" is fine...) is something that raises questions as to how your parents met and what they were doing when they concieved you. If you're going to name a character anything like that, please establish the setting of the story, the timeframe, and the personality of the characters. If you named your character El 'Detroit' Diablo Reyes, then please stop breathing because you're banned from breathing.

XX121 is the Weyland-Yutani designation for the... well, the XX121.
It's a known fact, from other material, that there are other known alien species (not sentient IIRC) in the Alien universe.

In fact, so common that the USCMC came up with xenomorph, or 'alien creature'.

There is a reason why Reno Story's backstory is more.. Humble, so to speak.

It's easy to try and make a badass who chews bubblegum like it's going outta business and kills everything he sees to give god a boner, but it is more interesting to have a person who is more.. Well, underdog, modest, the sort that has to earn the respect of those around them by DOING badass things instead of simply claiming they done epic things (only for them to run away like a pussy the moment a Ravager charges them).

It creates better development when some nobody in the marines manages to do something impressive, be it as simple as saving a marine's life to getting up close and personal to a xeno and ripping it's second mouth out.

Well this guy is such a Mary Sue he RPs most of his time hating on other characters and what makes even more cringy he has a 17 year old Marine sister that's an MP on CM. The level of Characters has dropped since the old'n CM days, Wew Lad.

There's a man named Xurphorus "Ghost" Dergens, for some reason, he's seen as a strong, smart leader, although most jokes and analogies seem to fly over his head. Every round, when he gets a labeler, he makes references that to the CM staff for no discernable reason, and one round, mentioned that his beard was given to him by his god "Apophis", and told his subordinates this. It seems Xurphorus cannot tell the different between someone who has a sibling IRL and someone who plays different characters but that's none of my business, it still seems as though he can't RP for shit even as a predator.
