I was surfing the wiki when I decided to look at USS Almayer and learn more about it.I was surprised when I saw that the Almayer may hold a tank "Hangar Space: 2 AUD-25 dropships, 2 M577 APCs, 1 M34A2 Longstreet light tank" and that the dropships can hold a vehicle.

I wouldn't say no.

But could you possibly imagine any sort of attack vehicle on our maps now?
Just think of size compared to ground space.

I wouldn't mind an on-rail vehicle, but I don't see a drive-able tank or APC being manually controlled around the map.

Thank ya it was just a thought on my mind got confused on the wiki when i saw it and a APC could be made if there was possibly a map made for vehicles and such.or some kind of vehicle to carry people around.

Only vehicle I could imagine happening is like Feweh mentioned, on rails. Perhaps something like a monorail to traverse a map?

Anyways seems like too much effort for too little gain in my opinion.

We're not currently on such a large scale that we could implement vehicles. Maybe in the future, we'll have much larger maps, where vehicles are the only really feasible way to travel and can be used in combat.

if I remember correctly due to how BYOND works and how shitty dream weaver is as a code base, it will be extremely difficult to add vehicles, but I think our dev team is good enough to do it when CM gets to a bigger scale (hopefully).

In Vanilla SS13, several servers have "Pods" which was 2x2 (or 4 tile large) ships that you can fly around in space. Some models can carry 2-3 people, others are single person fighter craft.

If Vanilla SS13 can make vehicles, I believe CM can easily have a few of their own. Just not tanks and APCs.

Instead, if we ever were to make combat vehicles, I instead suggest that we make 3 person Jeeps with an MG on the back, or an armored car (Somewhat like this https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... 410624.jpg ), or maybe even one of those 2 person motorbikes where the passenger seat has a machine gun.

Generally, we need small support vehicles over large tanks and APCs. Things that fit within the range of 2x2, 3x2 or 3x3 tiles.

I have an idea, maybe it would be better suited for a suggestion or maybe not. Why not have vehicles be static, an armed and armored command center like they were in the movies? If you add a module to your dropship to load an APC or tank, it should spawn outside the LZ once the dropship lands.

From there they can move to four or five fixed points around the map, but otherwise they're static and essentially their purpose would be an FOB that isn't always in the same spot. Imagine an FOB built around the APC, the MG nests backed up by a turret on the APC and the squad leaders inside.

there was a broken down APC on the sulaco too. i think it's something we can talk about when a new map comes around. for now, with our current maps, there isnt much feasibility to piloting a vehicle around. i can also see problems like dumb marines locking the door from the inside, or aliens hiding eggs in it or other shit that we will have to make new rules for and stuff.

Isn't the staff doing something with the dropships? If all the new sprites and items in the hangar armories are any indication, we are getting CAS cover on the ground.

Theres only so much Byond code can do. I dont think vehicles are one of them

Trust me mate, we aren't gonna get vehicles any larger than 2x2, because otherwise it would be very awkward to move.

Most sprites in the game move on a tile by tile system. If a sprite is much larger than 1 tile (such as the pods of SS13 Vanilla), it has to cover 4 tiles in order to keep the sprite centered, otherwise movement would be really buggy and jerky.

A lot of xenos are a fair bit larger than the single tile they are supposed to stand in, which is why it is common to see xenos clipping through walls a lot of the time. They could fix this by making larger xenos centered between 4 tiles, but then xenos would have trouble fitting into small spaces and would be extremely easy to hit.

We've got enough players for vehicles to work, but the maps aren't big enough for them

Vehicles in BYOND are really easy to add. It's just mechs with larger sprites.

If we add any vehicles, it'd probably be an APC acting as a supply transport and fire support, like a smartgun on sterioids.

We most likely would not add a vehicle anytime soon. This has been brought up multiple times before.
