Discussion: Stats in Signatures

This is a discussion at a newish "trend" I'm noticing that just bothers the fuck out of me.

"stats" in Signatures.

Beyond the fact that there is NO WAY TO VERIFY THEM, it's incredibly self centered and stupid.

Few things rustle my jimmies, but this weird trend of a list of "stats" longer than the average post of someone is one of those.


Fucking serious. If you put HALF the time into a single post that you put into updating your forum signature, you'd increase the quality of your post by 500%.

But seriouly though, yea, it's snowflakey af. You can brag and all, but inside your signature is a bit much.

WINS AT MARINE: 12

And stupidity on those lines.

Some of these stats are ridiculous recently. Now I personally don't mind that much if you want to list that you smoked 87 cigarettes or won 30 rounds as a Queen. Even if they make you seem incredibly self-centered.

Though I DO think it's a problem when your signature is three times the length of the average post, and I have to scroll past a huge sprite and walls of numbers to get down to the next post. I think it would be a good idea to limit the amount of lines people may use within their signature.

Less scrolling required, fill it with as many stupid numbers nobody cares about as you want!

Edit: Just to be clear. Stats are stupid, but feel free to use them. You do you. Though I do think signatures shouldn't be fifty fucking pages.

I myself find certain stats (such as rounds won as an ALIEN) to be quite tacky and boastful.

There are, after all, two types of achievements: The achievements that are so awesome or rare that they are worth documenting, and the achievements that are so commonplace that the only reason they are there is to boost someone's ego just for getting it.

I'm more of the former, of course. Winning as a xeno is easy.. Winning as a marine? Worth being proud of.

And then there are those kill counters, which I find very insulting (moreso if it is a kill count of marines, since killing marines as a xeno is bloody easy to do most of the time). The best players aren't the ones with the biggest kill streaks, but the ones willing to do tasks that no one else is willing to do, who has the balls to take up tiresome jobs like Cargo or Medical, or on the field of battle do risky things like blocking the escapes of crushers or holding the line bravely. Kills mean shit in the long run, the real badasses are the ones willing to do the boring jobs that no one else wants to do so that everyone can have fun as a whole.

I once turned the tide against a would be Marine major and earned the xenos a Xeno Major as ANCIENT HUNTER and with hive count of 13.
