Research/ Medbay Rebuild Feedback

Post by Bronimin » 11 Jul 2017, 14:59

I couldn't find an official thread for this, so I figured that I'd start my own. I'll just post my own thoughts.

The new combined Autopsy and Morgue is good, I like that a lot. The curtains separating the two rooms is a nice touch;
The holding cells are cool, though I don't think that I've ever had marines bring back a living xeno so I'm not entirely sure what they're for. Very neat monkey cages, regardless;
I like the new researcher break room though I'd like the marine foods vendor replaced with a hot drinks vendor -- what is research without ludicrous quantities of coffee? A better room than the beds, I don't think that I've ever seen those used as anything other than a spot to go SSD as a doctor, anyway;
Researchers have two PanD.E.M.I.C machines, probably for the zombie rounds if I had to guess.

The researchers have to steal clipboards from requisitions or lower medical which isn't so great (for me);
The researchers also have an exosuit-mounted syringe gun for some reason;
I forsee marines asking the researchers for their auto shotguns that they have in monkey cage room. They also have access to the armoury but not the gun cabinets inside;
The new chemistry is very small, I wish that it could be bigger but the only way I can see that happening is if the CMO's office is relocated to where is is now, and the CMO is stuffed into the closet instead.

Still no idea if researchers have any new thing to do other than roleplay in the average round. I'm going to be fiddling around for a while I imagine, hunting. Thank god that the number of slots was increased to three though maybe that's too many doctors? I don't know.

I think medbay, and the general research area is pretty sound. I would just like it if researchers had a bit more to do right now I just look at em like bootleg doctors they can create chems, and etc sure but their main purpose is to basically role play now. I'm sure they'll have a more roleplay, and another purpose once these zombie rounds start to become more common as the team is testing them out.

It's a shame that the lower medical redesign just kind of squished chemistry down there. I'll have to work it into my lower medical redesign.

Also I think because of this change, medical lost a few vendors leading to overall less supplies.

It would be nice if the added "Research thingies" actually would have a purpose.

Is this a little medic Chibi Hans slightly different from the Avatar one? --> Image Oh yes it is! All the credits and a huge thanks to Okand37 for these lovely marines!

I noticed today that the chemistry disposals unit had a habit of spitting whatever that is put into it out from the north eastern medbay disposals unit.

It would be nice if those had a use. I would much prefer a rack of vials to them, though. Vials at least have a purpose (mixing experimental drugs, use in the PANDEMIC machine)

I think the access for the research armoury needs to be reworked - I see it open quite frequently when walking past, and funnily enough, MPs / CMP don't have access to close it. I mean sure you could get a boatload of convicts due to it, but still, bit silly.

You should probably remove those electrohelmet assemblies. They're just asking to be used for griefing and I've seen someone use it on a Marine, defib them as an "experiment", and didn't know how to treat them.
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I saw a researcher set up an electric chair, use it on themselves, and upon being revived, were paralysed for the rest of the round. It was pretty funny.
I would be fine with a limited supply of them being present, and maybe the electric chair being made permissible for execution under Marine Law (require MT / CE to set up) as an alternative to lethal injection or firing squad.

Research could use some proximity sensors for bots and other grenade parts.

I like the new research lab and all, but they don't even give us an autoathe to make grenades...I don't want to be stuck making chems for an hour or two, so I steal the one from hangar...(that was put there for some reason...no one needs it, but you know we can just throw an autoathe here for no one to use. Then leave the researchers bored all round) EVEN then you can't make descent grenades, we are stuck with shitty 3 by 3 grenades. honestly, why have a research job...it's not even useful right now.

I miss Research not being able dissect Xeno's and make stuff out of their body parts.. I loved the all X-com references that could be made from that.

As for Chemistry being relocated, I love that, I don't mind how cramped it is, it's a really big convenience for Medics and Doctors who rely on the lab.

The break room is a nice touch, the Docs always needed a place to lounge around. (No matter how brief it may last.

Overall, I approve of the changes, I just wish Research had more to do outside of Zombie games that was more research related.

I'm certain that the Developers are working over a RnD update to add things for Researchers to research and develop, I also think the recent remapping was made with the idea of Infection in mind to allow Researchers to isolate infected Humans to experiment on them to find a cure.

----------------------------

The issue with the old Research was that it was hardly ever used. Firstly because the bonuses were not great and many Marines love to gib xeno corpses which if they do you get nothing from it.

The acid resistant spray was a nice bonus to have but if you lost your gun odds were if it is worth spit (Spec weapon) that the xenos will fortify it if they can't acid it. The melee armor plates were dubious due to the slowdown it forced upon the user and I can't even remember what the last item was but I doubt it was worthwhile.

The only thing worth spit for RnD was spamming out infinite Grenades which proved quite deadly if they were done well, but the issue with that was the process of making Grenades was long, boring and tedious to do as you essentially just sat still repeating the same task dozens of time over, and at the end of it you rarely got to use your grenades.

----------------------------

I'll be interested in seeing what RnD will get in the future, since right now a Researcher is just codeword for Chemist.

I still hate the fact that nobody knows how to use defibs. The change was terribly unneeded. I can't pass my defibs to standards now for major cases while I do the treatment.

Tbh I'm probably going to make a suggestion about changing them back by the end of the week.
