Epic idea #1: Randomized map.
Basic premise would be like LV624 but you won't know where each dome will be. Has to be balanced so it won't just turn into "tcoms/power and the defensible dome spawned right next to xeno spawn gg".

Epic idea #2: Clown Planet

Reading that gave me an Idea on maybe switching where some of the domes are on the map. Because every building on LV is a similarly sized dome experimenting on where each dome is placed could be pretty rad.

Putting the new sealed up Research dome where hydro is would cripple the hydro meta pretty hard. But moving it to where medical is could make it harder for the aliens to flank hydro.

Or, we could make the hydro meta even STRONGER and swap medial dome and fitness to give the marines a lot of open space at the top of the colony with a stronger dome then fitness protecting their rear dome between them and the nexus.

Maybe Robotics and the unfinished cargo dome could be swapped for an easier time building a LZ-2 FOB, that along with swapping Medical and Hydro would go a long ways towards making LZ-2 stronger but might hurt any LZ-1 strategies a bit too much.

I feel like Tcomms, Atmos, and Engineering are kinda stuck where they are unless you want to really fuck with the marines and swap them with the three cargo domes. Might wake the marines up to the reality of how important defending the cargo part of the map is when you've been pushed back to the nexus.

Just kinda some ideas. I'd like if you lads played around with the idea in your heads a little but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be worth the effort to do anything more then that. I'm interested in what other people might think about moving the different domes around.
(While checking the wiki for the map of LV624 to better picture how this would all work, Ive also noticed that it hasnt been updated since December and could REALLY use some updating. LZ-2 is still just a tiny square and the fact that its only a map of the colony itself and not also of the caves beyond the river kinda blows. Plz Fix)

Pretty sure the whole idea of the map is having "just" the colony. Kinda like you would see on a pamphlet if you were considering moving some place or something. Though, that picture does really need updating.

I would immensely enjoy a map with an objective beyond "investigate"

WO has the survival thing going for it, but it's still barely different conceptually than "kill all the aliens"

Retrieving a particular item, activating some electronic sub-system, escorting a particular person. It can still be limited a-la fog wall to keep marines from rushing into things. This would also provide the aliens with a sense of urgency, knowing that the marines are working towards an objective effectively puts a countdown on their rounds.

I think it would be best implemented if the objectives were spread apart on the map, meaning all the action wouldn't be focused on one area, rather than many. Having multiple options requires players to make decisions, and decisions always lead to more interesting gameplay.

I would be interested in seeing a Colonial Marine issue Space Armour
I didn't read all the way through the thread to see if it was addressed, but I think lorewise there is space armor, the M4X or something. I havent read the xenopedia thingy for a while.

M4X is a future combat armour that was designed explicitly to defend against the Xenomorphs.

Normal M3 armour is meant to defend against other Humans (very poorly in game, UPP weapons cut right through marine armour), not xenos.

Yeah, I read up the article about it, just realized I was wrong.

what about a daytime planet on a desert, but sandstorms happen every now and then and the xenos live in caves.

well, perhaps that could be made to work with a town map idea. you start with a grid of streets and you start rolling dice so each of the equally sized "city blocks" in between can be randomly assigned a building/park/dome/lot/plaza etc from that you mapped to fit inside the blocks. and thus you can have a seemingly ranomized place but with a grid of roads around to help ensure things dont get too impassable and mangled up. the grid of roads would also be home to any piping and power cables too so you dont have to worry too much about all that shit being disconnected from each other

put together 5/10/20 versions of the map made by copy pasting the city blocks in different arrangements(does byond mapping even have copy and paste? am i talking out of my ass this whole time?), have which version gets booted up on the server be randomly picked, and you have a reasonable imitation of random generation without needing to actually have a new map truly randomly generated every time

Random generation can be used as evident by Lavaland on /tg/.

For CM the only form of random generation I could possible see work are pre-made chunks (around 32x32 or whatever) of a map that are randomly placed in certain areas to make areas of the map unfamiliar or inconsistent. Even then its a stretch and likely a waste of time.

I really wish we could see a REAL jungle map thats not just autistic solid WALLS made out of vegetation, and actual camoflauge being useful to hide in bushes.

So basicly why dont they just make a map like LV but with actual bushs, trenches, foxholes, and other vegetation besides WALLS made out of plants, like wtf.

Also wouldnt it be more fun having a map where theres really not many buildings, and engineers actually had to build a temporary HQ/FOB, or like send inflatable buildings, or have a CAS that drops prebuilt buildings.

CAS napalm could be a thing also.

The next map should be a desert map. Not like big red one, but one where you receive a distress call from a crashed ship. Maybe it being a huge ship like the USS Almayer, and on it they were experimenting with xenos and they got loose. Could make survivors interesting as they'd be either the people who were working on them or family that was on the ship.

Throw in some sand caves and such in the desert, and maybe have heat waves on the planet that last a few minutes. That way marines would have to hide on the DS, or take cover inside the sand caves, or old colonist buildings. Got this idea from the Vin Diesel "Riddick" movie series. Hell throw in some old predator ruins around the desert as well, and maybe a few buildings where actual people were living in the harsh desert.

The heat wave idea seemed neat, as aliens would be able to run around in it but the marines would suffer from it. Have them burn and blister if they're out there for a certain duration, or maybe pass out from heat exhaustion.

Also maybe have the map turn from dark to day. Also you'd have to add in something from the USS Almayer where it would give like a five minute warning till a heat wave was going to occur; that way marines would have plenty of time to find cover.

Could have a new item that engineers could bring down like a solar shade that way you'd be able to make FOBs in the middle of the desert.

Again, like, I said before, all of the current guesses? Wayyyyyy off the mark.

As a second note:
- Impossible to do a randomized map.
- Very hard to do a "daytime" map and are currently unfeasible.

It's a map about an ocean in a desert within a ship.

What about some partially-terraformed Venus-like planet with a small military research base that went dark? Xenos get lots of small test subjects to eat and in exchange marines have a few fancy toys planetside waiting to be commandeered for emergency use.
