Marines Tactics and Updated Weapons

Post by Daman453 » 13 Aug 2017, 22:12

Guys, before i start, i don't want to be called "SALTY MARINE EAT MY ASS THE GAME IS MEANT TO BE LIKE THIS" Yes. I main marine. I feel like with all the updates for xenos, marines have been left behind in tactics and weapons. 3 main choices, and the only thing to change how the weapons work is attachments? How about low damage high rate of fire guns? Not given to every baldies but a option for the smart gunner? Tools better suited to destroying resin (Not tools made for destroying resin, but tools that are better then say a screwdriver at knocking it down) A way for SL's to mark areas and maybe put down points where people should stand? Tools to make walls easier to take down? Fire mines?

Look, i'm not making the post saying that marines should be buffed. I'm just asking we are given interesting tools in order to die with. I'm not even mad with the new update. It's time for more interesting and better tools in order to promote advanced tactics. I'm not asking for a SAW to be given to every baldie, or the spec can be given a minigun. This is just a post to spring discussion on new weapons and promote talk about overhauling the marines. Maybe we can put some of the stuff in this thread into suggestions? (And devs, if there is a update soon addressing some of it, just say it's in the works or something.)

I love the idea for a SL to be able to specify where marines should go. The ability to add fireteams was cool but if you could then put positions down for marines it'd be awesome for organising. For example, when you retreat into hydro you could put two icons down by the north door to specify two marines should guard the door then another two by the south door and so on. It'd be very simple and would allow you to easily order people while a lot of firing is happening as they wouldn't even need to check the chat to see it, it would just be an icon by the doors. Maybe it could be a HUD based thing that only Marines could see just so it made sense. Kind of like how today's real world marines can mark things with their IR lasers that people see when using night vision.

Remote detonation bombs that activate whenever a marine goes too far away from their SL

Would be cool for their to be an explosives spec, given explosives that are triggered with a detonator and primarily focus on breaching areas and giving marines a tactical advantage over just killing, they would start with lots of mines and some of this explosive + some other gear.

I like the idea of an SL being able to mark points, you think 100 years in the future with space ships you would have a proper hud that can mark points for marines.

It would be nice to see an attachment that makes your gun function like a smartgun at a heavy accuracy penalty.

It's the future, you could even have a HUD.

We already have a HUD showing the non-standard marine roles, why not have it show something like the direction of your SL (If he has his tracking beacon) or a location he has marked?

All veteran players already know the map by heart anyway, helping out the new and/or lost people by letting the SL mark waypoints just makes sense quality of life wise. The Overwatch officer will provide primary and secondary objectives, but the SL provides the on the ground positioning orders.

I actually think the new overwatch cams for all marines has gone a long way to help lost marines. This however depends on good SOs. Having a way for squad leaders to direct his squad would be wonderful. If the locater could be managed like the queen tracker it would be wonderful.

The last update was ammo reduction and some storage tweaks, xenos didn't get buffed at all, problem is marines don't adapt or they're incredible unrobust boots.. I swear I can't keep count of how many times a marine is being mauled by a xeno and his team mate just stand there observing with a rifle on his hands. If marines were 1/3 of how coordinated xenos are, you'll see how much could xenos get buffed because of their asses being kicked so hard.

Apop made a good thread about marine tactics and the most useful tactic is the one you don't talk about on a forum.

Any marine robusting strats eventually get nerfed, and cited as a "bug." Why even bother.
