How the hell does one survive as a survivor?

I've been a survivor a fair amount of times now, and one thing remains the same, its fucking insane trying to survive, I get about a 20% survival rate. There are generally several tactics I've used in the past which seem to slowly stopped working over the past few weeks, and here they are, Tactic one, hiding, a locker, a fridge a cabinet etc etc.... it used to be one of the best tactics, xenos just went about collecting hosts, nowadays runners sprint around busting open every locker in the map like they knew survivors were hiding in them, this didn't use to happen at least not to the degree that it is now, tactic two, fortification, barring oneself in a room, a hallway etc. I've built AMAZING forts, with what I've had, but most of the time the runners would run around, then finally a sent would show up, and acid one wall and it would be all over. The only way the tactic worked, was if you had stupid ayys or a super quick marine drop such as 12:18, but recently deployments are at 12:30, 12:40. Not that it even matters as nowadays survivors skillsets have severe limits meaning its a hard roll to get survivor, let alone rolling for a construction capable survivor. So, I ask you this how the hell does one survive as a survivor anymore? Please share your tactics below so that I can perhaps die less as a survivor, thanks.

Sometimes the only winning move is not to play at all.

That or be a survivor on Prison Station where you can get quick access to M16s and Shotguns.

Get the shotgun, get medical stuffs, group with other survivors, run around the map, killing anything near you that you can, breaking into secure dome gives a shotgun and m4, incinerator unit on big reds great, hprs etc. your best chance is to get weapons and group with the other survivors, lock down an area or stay on the move. Both can be done.

survivor skill sets ruined survivor

the ONLY way to survive as a survivor is to be able to powergame, the moment that was removed from survvior and its now suicide mode

tbh survivors should honestly have the best skillsets in the game, they literally survived a xenomorph invasion, they are badasses in at least ONE skill, either hiding, gunning, or making forts

survivor skillsets should either be removed and make them all purpose, or make them so good in one skill set that they are like 3 people in 1 when they are said job. as a doctor they can patch someone up in seconds, as a construction worker they can put down amazing cades with double armor value, etc etc.

As a survivor, the only thing worse than getting killed by the xenos is getting rescued by marines.
Just have a fun time surviving and stick around to take part in the first burst wave.

Sometimes it is useful to pretend to be dead. I've pretended to be dead a few times by resting in big red. It took a good long while for the ays to break into where I was hiding and even then I pretended to be dead when it was dragging me I ran off to the closest gunfire and was saved. Then I was killed by a sentry turret later but... yep.

I don't like that survivors are (afaik) hardcapped at 3. This is pretty much a death sentence during 120+ rounds, especially on maps like Big red where there's nothing blocking the queen from screeching and crippling the survivors that manage to find each other. I think the cap should be raised to 5 for high-pop rounds (120-150 players). Survivor RP always makes me happy, the story of a bunch of rag-tang underdogs doing anything and everything they can to stave off the horrible that killed everyone they know.

Xenos have a hud that tells them if you are alive or dead.

The HUD is not on by default so you are really lucky there

The skull icon that pops up over dead mobs is not part of the Xeno Status HUD and will always indicate if a mob is dead or not.
You can confuse it by resting on the same tile as another dead mob. Unless the Xeno checks the contents of the tile it will just look like one ded dude.

The Xeno knew you were alive, thats why it was dragging you off.

Survivor is a flavor role, and an intentionally difficult one at that. Your best hope is for an early deployment by the marines and then a rescue..

Course you could just end up getting gunned down because no one bothered to shut off the turrets.

Currently until a rework happens, survivor is a tool for marines to go all the way to the caves destroying eggs and performing abortions.

So just hide until marine deployment

I've found that taking the nearest shotgun, loading it with buckshot and then running like hell yakety saxing it all over the place works pretty well. Running away from them, suddenly turning around and blasting them, repeat this until they either back-off from damage or boredom, or you manage to run away yourself. Then you sit down for a lil while, maybe a minute or two, in a building somewhere.

I personally find the more people I'm grouped-up with the more likely I am to die, probably because most people try and make a fortress. I don't think fortresses really work.

Flamethrower and buckshot.

A single flamethrower burst kills Young/Mature runners and Young T2's. Buckshot can instagib Runners and Hunters that you'll faceS On Big Red you'll unfortunately have to deal with the Queen eventually. High pop survivor is RNG if the other survivors link up. If they do? You'll have a better chance of surviving.

Just remove the skill system for the survivors, and the survival rate will go back up. If I wanna make walls in the sand temple and hide in a body bag, I should be able to. Instead, I just don't have the skills and I die anyway.

I mean, survivors already had a hard time surviving, why'd you handicap them more with the skill system?

Grab some plasteel from that storage, make a knife grip, make a knife blade, attach them, screwdrive them together, pick it up. Get your hands onto a bulky-huge item, grab some wood, find an area that's easy to fortify but hard to overrun, grab a radio. You're not guaranteed to survive. This is a role that's based on luck and skill, you have no armor, and you have little light. You're a civilian. You get a gun, but you won't use it with much success.

Focus on making a knife, getting wood (who said you'll be an engineer), and getting a radio. Anything else is bound to slow you down and get you caught. If you're pressed for time, get a fucking body bag (you powergaming fuck) go to an area that will be last searched, get a knife, and hide in that area. Get robotic limbs too.

EDIT: Do not even go to security for weapons. I have a few weapons that can kill xenos with little effort, PM me if you want me to tell you them. There' s also a machete in the secure storage underneath the floorboards. (Thanks Snype)

Get the guns or not, hide.
Wait for marines.
Pray.

Big Red:

Southern research contains one W-Y firearms crate.
In the Administratio building, there's MP7s and 88Mod pistols.
And just stay in the research lab.

Ice Colony:

Get the snow shovels, the double barrel shotgun in the bar, barricade yourself in the crashed ship.

Another thing that severely nerfed survivors on LV was the implementation of fog. It limited locations where you could hide and got rid of survivors abilities to make a tunnel north of the river and camp out there with tables/barricades.
