Is "Gunner" a legit name?

Post by EXOTICISME » 25 Sep 2017, 14:17

So apparently i have a note for using Gunner Gonzales as a name with the "Gunner" part as the issue. Problem is, i've seen many people in CM using Gunner first name and even the randomize name button give me this name and i just change the last name part.

With five minute google search i can confirm Gunner is a legit real life name but the staff in question decide otherwise.

The name Gunner is a Swedish baby name. In Swedish the meaning of the name Gunner is: Battle strong.
Gunnar is a male first name of Nordic origin (Gunnarr in Old Norse). The name Gunnar means fighter, soldier, and attacker, but mostly is referred to by the Viking saying which means Brave and Bold warrior (gunnr "war" and arr "warrior").

Famous People Named Gunner

Gunner Nicholas Sixx (b. 1991), son of musician Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe
Gunner Vincent Calaway (b. 1993), son of pro wrestler The Undertaker
Gunner Robert Papelbon (b. 2010), son of baseball player Jonathan Papelbon
Gunner Black Furstenfeld (b. 2016), son of singer Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October

Gonzales also a legit name, again with a quick google search

Last name: Gonzales. This famous surname recorded in the spellings of Gonzales, Gonzalez, Gonzalvo, Gozalo, Gonzalvez, Gosalvez, Goncaves, and Gonzalo, is usually accepted as being of Spanish or Portuguese origin. However in truth like so many Iberian surnames, its origins are Germanic.
Gonzalez is a patronymic surname meaning "son of Gonzalo." The given name Gonzalo comes from the medieval name Gundisalvus, which was the Latin form of a Germanic name composed of the elements gund, meaning "war" or "battle" and salv which is of unknown meaning.

Now into the PROBLEM.
Notes can't be removed, i just ask an admin if there's a way to remove it but he said no, and told me to make the same mistake again. Now i think again, mistake? Is it my mistake for not reaching a roleplay standard of staff in question that i get a note?
I don't want to report staff in question just for some pety excuse as noting me for having "non-RP" name. I just want the note to get removed because it attract the attention of staff when applying punishment.

Its highly sketchy, especially due to the theme of the game.

Notes cannot be removed, so you are out of luck there. The way we look at notes (*cough* I was an admin and moderator *cough*) is typically based on what you've done.

For example, you just got a note for a "non-rp name". If you ever come back up in an investigation or situation, we will look at your notes (I'm just using you as an example, we do it to everyone that is involved with stuff). Unless you have an excessive amount of notes, a "Non-rp name" note isn't going to hurt you if someone is investigating something you did or were apart of UNLESS it is another breach of the RP naming rule.

There are exceptions and such but that is the basic jist of it. Does that make sense?

I don't see how a first name from the randomiser can be considered to be a break of immersion on the player's part. This seems like a coding issue.

I can attest Gonzales is indeed an actual name. Hell, I have parents that have this surname. It's a portuguese origin, so it is true.

Bit iffy about the "Gunner" Part but I belive is a legit name nonetheless.
The question here is: What the admin/mod in question classifies as "Non-RP name" when you have name like "Bjorn" and "Petrokivkskykdshk" or even "Thyathos".
I think something must be done on this behalf.

We have "Jesus Christ" on the name generator and other easten eggs names (not intended) yeah it's a code thing. Gunner is more like a nickname but it can apply as a name such like Red or Rusty

I can't believe you got a note for a name that is

1) A name that can be found in the real world

2) Is in the name generator
