The only thing I'd change is making the colours more colorblind friendly.

The USCM looking like Power Rangers should be enough motive to change this ASAP. Honestly, I Iike the little colored dot idea, as I also confuse Delta and Charlie members often.

This actually reminds me of the Pre-Alpha times when each squad had a colored jumpsuit, it's from where the "Alpha=Red.Bravo=Yellow.Cahrlie=Purple.Delta=Blue" came from.

Literal jumpsuits, along with vanilla SS13 security helmets. When Marine jumpsuits came, it was kind of a big deal because we started to look like actual Colonial Marines instead of a knock-off power rangers.
My name is Ulysses Skyfall, but people call me "Meat".

Would be nice yeah, making the colors either colorblind friendly or going with the suggestion of adding indicators next to the marines instead of the power-ranger colors.

I don't think the colors is that much of a problem in universe when you consider in universe every marine put all kinds of designs on the armor that fucked with its camo anyway. Squad color or no we ain't exactly stealthy running around with our shoulder lights on tossing flares everywhere.

Another idea is to have a different colored symbol for each squad that seems like a customized thing each marine put on their armor rather than a standard issue stripe. That way you could still tell at a glance what squad it is and it would fit in universe with marines drawing on their own armor. I have no ideas what you could really put on such a small space though.
Bran Jast. Over worked Bridge officer, uncaring MP, injured Marine. Shrug. Now without Robot Arm!

Being able to pick between armor drawings on character setup would be neat

Honestly, I kinda like it.

It isn't quite unlike how RTS games work, with all units having a default design, but having a "grey texture" that changes according to which team they belong to, allowing devs to save money on having to model COMPLETELY different units for each color, and if you have a game that has a selection of 20+ colors, that can be a lot of work.

Same could be said here, where we have 4 squads and each one has a color to help identify them. It doesn't clutter the hud and it looks nice.

Like I said before, I don't mind the "special" icons that jobs other than standard get, but when EVERYONE starts getting little blots next to their avatar because people can't tell each other apart/don't like having a few small trimmings to identify them, then it'll start to get a little ugly..

Its not about stealth at all, its about how it just feels a little childish how the colors are so profound on the armor.
