Gunshots are naturally loud, it used to be the clf/upp could come on and murder half the ship before anyone heard them, now like real life, you can hear gunshots across the ship.

That doesn't necessitate being earbreakingly loud up close, it just means they need to carry across a distance.

Well actually it does, if you stand next to someone shooting with an automatic rifle and no ear protection, you are gonna have a bad time.

It's a video game, gunshots can be as quiet or as loud as is deemed suitable for the game.

IMO certain guns are way too fucking loud atm and should have their volume sliced by maybe 1/4.

Don't Marines and other military units have ear protection JUST for these problems alone?
You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

Sometimes, it all depends on the unit, ive seen some with and some without.

I kinda want to take your word for it and heavily doubt you at the same time, it doesint take much looking to realize that warfare causes a large number of ear related injuries throughout the years. And Im pretty sure modern militaries would be on top of that.

As far as my advice towards OP, just turn it down?
I play with a lowered volume and can hear most everything just fine.

Well its all subjective, for example in the standard kit issue for the CAF ear protection is not issued, of course if you are on range you use range sets, and you could buy your own if you wanted for Ex's you only really would get issued ear protection if it pertains to your job, IE mechanic, or during a work up for a deployment, at which point its personal preference, some choose to wear them in combat some dont, its tough to remember to pop buds in when you are taking fire. Or a regiment might make its soldiers wear it constantly. Again all subjective.

Generally earpro is only worn by infantry while at the range. Though I've never personally been in combat, those who I know who have don't wear it in combat because when there's no shooting you still need to be able to hear.

In video games, loudness =/= how far sound carries. A quiet sound could be heard across the entire ship, or a loud sound could only be heard in one tile. No harm in turning stuff down for the sake of comfort while still allowing the sound to carry.
